Here's what I've downloaded today:

The Pixies' Greatest Hits - I've always been familiar with them (I also know the one girl from the band The Breeders because I THINK that's the same girl  ) though word of mouth, so I decided to get this. I already knew some songs and checked out others, but listening to them in consecutive order is incredible. Easily my happiest surprise. Their music generally has a very upbeat sound to it, even if they aren't talking about the best subjects. And the lyrics are totally out there. I can see why so many bands have taken their style.

The Smiths' "Sounds of The Smiths" - I was again familiar with this band through word of mouth, and have heard a few songs from them and am happy with their style. I have to listen to more to get a real feel of them.

Counting Crows' "August & Everything After" - Holy crap. It's dark and rainy here right now (precursor to the hurricane) and this is the absolute PERFECT album to listen to. Counting Crows have a very lyrical and deep style with their music, and this album is the absolute tops of it. Every song on the album is meaningful and makes you feel something, whether it be comfort or excitement. There's a difference between good music and GOOD music, and I think this would be the latter.

Backstreet Boys' "Millennium" - It makes me happy!

Last week I also bought "The Rising Tide" album from Sunny Day Real Estate, which was their last album before they split up for good. Absolutely epic.

Are you downloading these albums by paying for them on itunes (or something similar) or are you just snatching them off Youtube?

Hey, you'll get no bad comments from me. I liked BackStreet Boys and used to have that CD. I think an ex-gf took it with her when she left because I haven't seen it since she left. I like most of their songs. Even like other boy bands and girl bands from the late 90s as well.

My favorite song by Counting Crows is "A Long December", which isn't on this particular CD. I think it was on the next CD they released. I don't know if you've heard it, but you should check it out if you haven't. Great song.

I'm actually using Amazon to download them, since I get more points on my credit card by using Amazon as opposed to iTunes. I generally use my discretion, including prices and the amount of songs that will be downloaded, to see whether I buy them or if I get them off YouTube. Most of the albums I get are greatest hits, so they'll have around 15-25 tracks on them, which would be way too annoying to try and replicate off YouTube. And like I've said before, I'm trying to get into a more broad feeling with each band I listen to now, so it's much more worthwhile to get albums and not download them on my own terms, which would lead me to skipping around.

I love "A Long December" with a passion. Probably my favorite song of theirs.

It's a running joke between me and a co-worker when it comes to that type of music. If we're in the stock room or going on a bank run or something, one of us will always pull up a circa 90's boy band song and sing along with it. The climax of this was one day when he pulled up "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" out of nowhere and we sang this heartfelt rendition of it in the background. It's supposed to be kind of jokingly, but we actually both really got into it and we still talk about how amazingly awesome it was.

Is it sad that I can sit here and sing that song word for word without needing to look up the lyrics?
