Wrestling Voice interview with Chris Jericho
Host: Duane Doogan
Available at WrestlingVoice.net.

On wrestlers stealing his moves and gimmicks in WWE today and lashing out at CM Punk for doing so: "There seems to be a lack of respect for the forefathers who came in and did it first and it's not just [CM] Punk, it's a whole litany of guys from Miz to Cody Rhodes to Mason Ryan to Sin Cara to Kelly Kelly, everybody is stealing moves, looks, ideas. Brian Pillman once told me if you want to make it in wrestling you have to do something that nobody has done before and nobody is doing that and they are coming off as second rate copies of Chris Jericho, and that's maybe why these guys aren't striking and I watch it and think, 'Seriously, again?'

"A couple of years ago you had 'Miz 4, John Cena 0', where did that come from? Conspiracy Theory, where did that come from? Best in the World, where did that come from? Wearing suits, talking slow, using big words, using certain moves, you know Miz used the word "troglodyte" a few weeks ago and I'm like seriously? If there ever was a word associated with Chris Jericho that would be it. These guys have to start thinking of their own stuff and some times I see some of them and I'm like oh come on. It's not like it's influenced. At least give credit where credit is due."

I can kind of see where Jericho is coming from with The Miz given that Miz wears suits and talks slow (even though loads of guys did that before Jericho), but Kelly Kelly? Sin Cara? Jericho is great, but he's coming off kind of egotistical here thinking everyone is stealing his gimmick/character.

I originally thought Jericho was just messing around when he said those things on Twitter about Miz and Punk. I mean, he was actually hanging out with Miz at one point, so I figured he was saying those things for laughs... but maybe it's just a pet peeve of his.

Also, what did Punk copy from Jericho exactly? "Best in the World"? As much as I like Jericho, I hope he realizes that "Best in the world at what I do" is a direct quote from Wolverine of X-Men. I don't even read comic books and I know that.

He's starting to sound like that bitter old wrestler that time has passed by so he just complains about how the new generation isn't as good as the past, steals their ideas, etc. The bad part is that he is fully capable of still wrestling but chooses not to. If he thinks these people are stealing his gimmick (and I don't think they are), then why not come back and prove that they aren't as good as he?

Or maybe this is all an elaborate set up for a Jericho return next year? Starting it online and coming back to feud with someone he's ranted about online? Hell, it worked for Rock/Cena.

I hate shit like this. It's like music, everything has already been done.
It's hard for a wrasstler these days not to have to copy someone else's moves, character or whatever. Everything has pretty much been done. That is why Punk is such a breath of fresh air.
Going back to where i said it's like music. It's like all the old "heavy metal" bands saying that this band ripped their riff off of them or whatever, but since everything has been done by one person or another, it's kind of hard not too, if you mean to or not.

I don't think he was saying that they stole from him. I think he said they stole from other people ("the forefathers").

But, I agree with CM DRUNK. It's very hard for people to come up with new ideas especially in wrestling. Most everything is a rehash of someone else, their ideas or gimmicks.

I think Jericho is working everyone here, or at least isn't actually bitter about people being unoriginal. To a degree, he has a point. Several people did try to replicate his SRS!Character (The Miz, Shad, Jack Swagger.) I'm not exactly sure who Kelly Kelly managed to copy though. Especially since she can hardly pull off any of the moves she actually uses.

Kinda funny Jerichos saying this after not too long ago i dissed Miz for being a Jericho rip off. Only a Miz nut sucker would be blind enough to not see it.
