F4WOnline.com reports that WWE officials are considering taking the WWE Championship off CM Punk due to 'terrible ratings patterns' for his weekly segments on Raw.

The matter was broached prior to Sunday's WWE TLC pay-per-view event, which saw Punk ultimately retain the strap in a Triple Threat Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz. The trend of lackluster ratings for his segments continued the following night on Raw as the program's overrun, which saw the Straight Edge Superstar, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder overcame The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, only gain 59,000 viewers.

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer analyzes: "That's almost impossible given people tune in to see the following show, which basically meant wrestling fans must have been tuning out in droves (they were during the first half of the match but then started gaining at 11 p.m., but hardly gained anything)."

The main event garnered a 2.67 cable rating (2.55 for the first half of the bout), which Meltzer says is by far, the lowest-rated main event on Raw in 2011 and possibly the lowest since 1997 for a non-holiday show in its regular time slot.

Low ratings during the last few weeks of December? Clearly, Punk is a bad champion. I mean, there is absolutely no other reason why ratings would be low during the last few weeks of December, right? Right?

There not saying ratings are bad. There saying ratings are bad during his segments. Although i dont know if it has so much to do with him rather then the talent his paired with. I mean Del Rio. Bryan. As much as Im not a big fan of Punk, I dont think hes a bad champion and id like him to keep the belt along time.

The Man. Any Questions?
Well, I think it's unfair to single out Punk. Ratings suck. They're at 1996, "OMG we're going to go under!" levels, and have been for 4 years. Just as they blamed HBK, they're blaming Punk.

It's not him. It's that the WHOLE SHOW sucks donkey dick. That's why people tune out. If there were a WCW now, WWE would be fucked. And yet, they try to claim "business is booming". Yeah, and I'm a fucking porn star.

I can agree with this. This week, it wasn't just Punk. He was out there both in promo and in a match with Zack Ryder and Daniel Bryan. Nobody wants to see those two clowns. The sooner they drop their belts, the better the shows will be.

CM Punk is also lacking a credible heel to challenge him I feel. ADR and Miz isn't cutting it and Punk's weekly verbal thrashing of Ace is getting tiresome.

Most of the top established WWE Superstars are faces...Triple H, John Cena, Randy Orton, Big Show etc. There aren't any really big name heels right now. The biggest named heel is Kane and he is beating up Cena.

And Mark Henry, but he's out with an injury. They should turn Sheamus heel again since he's done nothing but run in place since turning face. He's not an established name, but he's a good worker that is over with the crowd.

I have a sickening feeling its gonna Punk v Miz at Mania. But if Y2J were to return as a heel. Our prayers would be answered.

Again, Im not a CM Punk fan, I think hes a good but not great. Nowhere near great honestly. His in ring skills are average and his mic skills are above average. Hes had very few great matches in the 4 or 5 years hes been in the WWE. But I wouldnt blame the rating problems on him.
