Dolph: WWE Champ in 2012?

On Raw SuperShow, Dolph Ziggler pinned CM Punk in the WWE Champion's own hometown of Chicago! The showoff celebrated with the title but it will only be his if he can defeat The Straight Edge Champion on the first Raw of 2012.

Yes, Dolph Ziggler's WWE Title reign begins.
John Morrison thinks getting the first title shot of the year on Raw is a sign of bad things to come. :stop:

I think I said this earlier, but I have to work this Monday night. I am usually off on Mondays, but since I was off Saturday for New Years, I have to go in on Monday. This sucks because this is the first time I've been truly excited about Raw in a while. The "it begins" videos definitely sucked me in. And now I have to spend an entire night away from anything wrestling related so I don't spoil this for myself.

Let the hate flow through you Cena.

Cena with his typical "I wuv you gaiz, boo me if you want" schtick has gotten old.

Okay, Orton's injury is definitely a work.

Meh.
Ditto. :busy:

We need Brodus Clay to whoop his ass and make this stand out.

Where is the woman from the promo? They mentioned a woman.

If I have to take a guess, Jericho's new character will be trolling people who kept demanding for him to return.

The Man. Any Questions?
CM Punk's supposedly the world's most awesome thing for breaking character a few months ago, and he's the WWE Champion right now...and takes third billing behind Super Cena and some Kevin Bacon-looking canuck.

And WWE wonders why they'll never see a 5 rating again.

 That was lame as fuck. A tug-o-war with Zack? Are you fucking kidding? I actually laughed my ass off when that happened. Pretty sure that's not the "shocked fear" reaction WWE was going for. It was just too damn ridiculous.

Of course, having Kane make a huge return just to be a fucking "try to turn Cena" pawn is ridiculous in itself.

Inb4 the storyline turns to Ryder being the personification Cena's "soul".

He better hope Zack never gets released, then.

Save for Cena's opening promo I liked Raw. Ziggler, Cody, and Barrett are all coming off as more credible heels. Save for Mark Henry, the company was lacking in this area for most of last year. Ziggler's title match at the RR looks like another test run, but unlike last year, I can see him sticking around in the title hunt/upper-midcard this time around.

Cena is at his best, or most tolerable depending on your views of him, when he's up against an actual threatening heel. Worked well for the first half of the Nexus feud, he had great chemistry with Punk, and he looks to have it with Kane. Plus, I've always been a sucker for those cheezy promos like Ryder almost getting dragged into hell.

And yeah, I'm a Jericho mark, but his return was cool. I'm confident the pay off will be Jericho blaming the fans for wanting him to pander to them and turn heel again. Maybe then we can get that Jericho/Punk match at Wrestlemania.

I still like Crazy!Truth, but I think he'll eventually run into the same problems that Ryder will as well. A comedy-face can only make it so far until the crowd turns on them, or they get pigeon-holed and stuck with a self-imposed glass ceiling gimmick. Happened to Santino, happened to Eugene, and it'll happen to them if they don't eventually change it up.

Setting yourself up for the 2012 WWE Mark of the Year award? :P

J/k.

Only saw the second hour of Raw. Other than Jericho trolling the fans, not much stood out to me.

Why has there been so much demand for Brodus Clay? I've seen it all over the net. Like the guy is going to be awesome. He isn't. He's going to be a poor man's King Kong Bundy. The WWE will push him to the moon because of his size and he will fall flat on his face.

Because WWE has been hyping his debut for about 3 years now!

Jericho's return was clearly the foundation of something bigger. He was too over the top in his pandering to the crowd. He's clearly going to be turning heel again. I thought the crowd pandering went on too long on Raw, but I look forward to see what they do with Jericho going into WrestleMania. Glad he's back. :)

Kane should be silent. Even his "over the PA system, but not on camera" promo wasn't as cool as Kane is when he's silent. And I'm not sure what to make of Kane trying to drag Ryder under the ring. I mean, we've seen Undertaker do this before (think back to his feud with Diesel going into WM), so it isn't anything completely out of WWE's playbook. But I still don't see the point in targeting Ryder and not trying to pull Cena under instead.

I'll say it again: Punk vs John L is NOT Austin vs McMahon.

Kayfabe wise, Zack Ryder is Cena's best friend on the roster, so I'm assuming Kane did it to "increase the hate" in Cena.

I agree. Jerichos "yeahh" was so over the top is has to be setting up a heel turn. If not, then lamest return ever.

Y2J should stay heel forever.

Jericho has been boring for years. Heel or face.

His best moment was taping Chyna to a chair, and then breaking her fingers with a hammer. That was pretty awesome. Probably the most greusome thing the WWF ever did.

For those that missed it, here:

His best moment is when he signed my Y2J shirt. :shifty:

He is extremely over the hill face-wise, but there's no way he can possibly return as a heel. People like that don't return as heels, at least for the first little while. It's impossible to have a big name return with the crowd hating them, at least when you're a big mainstream star like that. It's something you can't fight, so if this sets up a quick turn, then so be it.

I usually can't stand fan-made videos like this, but this kid actually did a really nice job of analyzing Y2J's return. Definitely worth checking out.
