Windham instead of Ole? What the fuck. If it isn't the originals, does that mean ALL members get in? So Paul Roma's a Hall of Famer?
Looks like WWE found a way to sneak Chris Benoit into their Hall of Fame!

So, Clay was hyped for months on end just to show up like fat Flash Funk? Well worth the wait. FAIL.

That was so, so sad. I was hoping that this would be yet another week that WWE failed to deliver Clay and that Clay would instead come out as Miz's bodyguard. That type of role has given us several break out stars. Instead, we get the Funkasauraus? Why? I will say that it was kind of funny, though. Just for the fact that it was so unexpected.

I didn't watch Raw (only know about Clay because of a newz site) but I'm assuming he was still a dominant monster - just a funkadelic one?

Has there ever been anybody like that before? I'm not talk the funky gimmick, but a funky monster. Maybe it can work? If I was watching, I'd probably prefer a monster with some character than to see just another generic angry big guy in tights for the seventeenth thousand time.

Maybe Cybrus just wishes they did?

Both performers appear for Florida Championship Wrestling.

BTW, you guys are crazy. After seeing that, that is freaking GOLD!

Switching conversation points, was the CM Punk/Swagger match suppose to end when it did? It looked like Punk was going for the anaconda vice and was legitimately pissed off when the Ref raised his hand. And the ref looked like he may have been getting his ass handed to him through that ear piece. It was weird.

I noticed the same thing during the Punk match. It looked like he prematurely called for the bell, and I wouldn't understand why Punk would argue with the ref for winning anyway so...

I thought the Clay thing was awesome. I didn't care at all about him coming into WWE so at least I got something funny out of his debut.

But like I said, the only thing I cared about was Edge. I've realized there are things that slowly made me stop watching wrestling, and, respectively, they were when Michaels retired (I'd watch once every few weeks after), then when Edge retired (I didn't watch any WWE event until Punk's worked shoot promo). I just don't care about the gimmicks or the wrestlers anymore. Edge was one of the few people I actually cared about, besides Jericho and Michaels, because everything is built on stupid gimmicks now. They all showed up every week with heart and all got to the top the "hard" way, so I feel like wrestling lost something when Edge left. There's still Punk and I guess you can lump Daniel Bryan in there (although I heard he's been doing horribly) as guys who paid their dues, but that's about it.

Daniels was absolutely horrible right up until he won the World Title. But right now he seems to be turning heel and actually gaining a personality. My biggest complaint against him was his lack of personality and generic promos. He's slowly changing that as he's slowly turning heel. He's actually becoming funny and entertaining.

The question is how much they invest in this new Daniel Bryan character. SD! apparently got one of its lowest ratings in many years this past week. I wonder if WWE will blame Daniel Bryan and take the World Title off him. Guess we are only a few hours from knowing. But I don't think they will. I think they are giving us a second World Title match on SD! to burn through the gimmicks so they can do some other gimmick match at Royal Rumble.

Not exactly "funkadelic" but Viscera did his Love Machine gimmick as a face. Then again, the most he got pushed was when he started to romance Lilian.

Brodus Clay seriously made Raw for me. I haven't marked out in a while, but Clay's entrance had me on my feet. As goofy as the gimmick is, I'd love to see him challenge for the United States Championship at some point in the future (just for the lulz).

A fan that attended last night's show had the following to saw about his observations:

ProWrestling.net

Dot Net reader Ernest De La Garza attended Monday's WWE Raw in Corpus Christi, Texas and sent the following report on the show.

-The Kane promo sucked and the crowd ate it up when John Cena came out (Cena is stale and needs more development in my opinion so we booed).

-The tag match with Sheamus was good for the crowd but short. Jinder Mahal is pathetic losing to comedy act in Santino Marella. Wade Barrett got no heat and Jinder just got crickets.

-We could not see the screen but were near back area where wrestlers came out. Trust me, it is a small area back there where the locker room is (I worked for local hockey team). If any had private rooms they had to be near offices further back.

-Kofi Kingston came out to a bigger reaction then the World Champion Daniel Bryan (which has to say something WWE!?!?). There was little reaction for him after the win. A big reaction for Big Show and a huge boo for announcement for Friday's match. The crowd was restless because there were very few wrestling matches and it was a slow, boring pace at this point in the show for a live Raw.

-Curt Hawkins came out during a commercial break for what I do not know....oh finally Brodus Clay made an entrance nobody anticipated (purely dumb!). Oh yeah, it was to squash Hawkins, that's right. Weak match. I hope they have more of a turn for him to go heel because the crowd did not react to that one bit.

-No reaction for Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger, but a huge reaction for C.M. Punk. Wow, John Laurinaitis actually gets good heat from the live crowd. I hate him so I booed too. This was the best match of the night so far, everyone loves Punk. I think also because he is the only one that pays attention to the fans (such as to keep them chanting, etc). That finish surprised the crowd as it looked like in WWE terms he kicked out right before the three, but crowd loved his celebration.

-People loved Ricardo Rodriguez (then again we are in south Texas so...).

-The crowd loved Chris Jericho but grew tired of his act quickly more then last week. That jacket is crazy looking and he got boos, as he did not deliver yet again. It looked like he was crying (he needs to turn heel next week, two weeks is enough).

-There was no reaction, just moans and groans for that Eve an Zack Ryder segment. It looked like they did something to the ring before main event, as all the crew was working on that.

-Jack Swagger vs. Zack Ryder for the U.S. Title was announced for next week.

-In all my years since John Cena has been in WWE, Corpus Christi is definitely more pro-Cena than anti-Cena.

-Kane came out when Dolph Ziggler was talking after the show went off the air. As Kane was talking, Punk came out and was attacked by Dolph, Kane, and Swagger until Big Show came out. Cena came back out and all three babyfaces did their finishers on Swagger to send crowd home happy.

-This was by far the lowest attendance for Raw or Smackdown in Corpus Christi ever.

I gave up reading that guy's report about half way through. I kind of want to punch him in the face. He's the reason internet fans/smarks have such a bad reputation.

He clearly isn't a fan of what WWE does but he goes to the show to bitch about it anyway.

Maybe I was just hearing things, but the crowd definitely wasn't dead for Brodus Clay. There was course the "WTF silence" when he first came out, but it sounded like they came around to him.

 You missed my Survivor Series review when I went at MSG:

First half of the show: "fuck this shit I'm getting drunk so I don't have to pay attention."

Second half of the show: "YES PUNK! OMG THE ROCKKKKKK!!!!!!! THIS IS THE GREATEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!!"

Overall: The show completely sucked aside from two people.

- The January 9th WWE RAW Supershow scored a 2.9 cable rating with 4,008,000 viewers. This is down from last week's 4,438,000 viewers and 3.1 rating. RAW's viewership dropped again this week as the first hour did a 2.96 rating and the second hour did a 2.77 rating - a loss of 176,000 viewers.

In comparison, the BCS Championship Game on ESPN did a 16.22 rating with 24,214,000 viewers but was down 15% from last year's game.

I thought the same thing. I heard quite a few cheers every time he did any kind of dancing. I thought it was funny, but I don't see how it could be taken seriously as a main event gimmick.

Do you remember how popular Rikishi was in 2000?

Dude debuted and within months he was main eventing TV shows against D-Generation X - when they weren't a couple of past their prime kid joke goofballs. And that was during the beloved Attitude Era. One of the only faces that could get more cheers that was often seen was The Rock (Undertaker and Austin were out for a lot of his peak).

So I don't think it's out of the question for Brodus Clay to become a main eventer and extremely popular. Not necessarily going to happen, but it's not something that's extremely unlikely. It's just more a question of if he gets up there, will he stay? Rikishi didn't... but he lasted a decent time floating in and out of the main event (it all died after 2001).

The thing that killed Rikishi for me was when they tried to give him a HIAC moment similar to Mankind's. I believe they had Undertaker push him off the HIAC but he landed on a truck full of hay and sold it like Mick Foley. That killed his act for me, completely.

I think it would be cool if Brodus Clay was the Funkasaurus when he wasn't wrestling, but then he turned into a monster if he got angry. I mean, he's happy and dancing when he's in control, but he just snaps and destroys people when he gets mad. That's not likely, but it'd be cool.

That Rikishi Armageddon moment was and is so incredibly stupid. Me and a friend still laugh at that stupid thing. I don't know if I ever saw the match in it's entirity, but I do remember something about McMahon and his stooges trying to hurry down to the ring... but taking the time to back up a truck full of hay. I don't know if they were trying to get Rikishi (their guy in the match, I think) to safely jump or what but yeah... it's worse than when they drag someone up to the stage to throw them off onto a conveniently placed large cushion.

As for the joking/serious gimmick, I totally had an idea for a character like that for years now. But I always pictured a kind of WCW Chris Jericho/heel Lionheart type who was usually a coward and kind of light hearted, but sometimes he would just snap and lose his temper - utterly destroying the guy in the ring or whatever.... but it wouldn't always happen. Just enough to establish that it CAN happen.

It definitely won't. If the company does get behind Brodus for a main event run, he'll end up becoming a monster heel like Mark Henry.

Kurt Angle's Olympic Hero gimmick during his first title run was pretty much like that.

I'm watching Raw for the first time in a long time and the only thought in my mind has been "it's amazing that I used to care about this stupid shit. Why did I care so much?"

Then they showed the Edge video and I remembered why I used to care.
Great post.

Anyway RAW sucked except for Chris Jericho. So awesome what hes doing. Something no ones ever done before. Big ups to him
