STAY HYPED!!!
|
This is carrying over from a recent shoutbox conversation. I think we could make it a decent forum game. For the basis of this game, imagine that we are creating a Hall of Fame where wrestling personalities are inducted based purely on their contributions to wrestling and their worth to the industry. This is not a Hall of Fame that is fluffed up with undeserving celebrity names or undeserving wrestlers that know the right people. We are talking a legitimate hall of fame that is actually prestigious and meaningful. With that said, I'll name a wrestler and you decide if that wrestler should be inducted into a legitimate hall of fame. Then you list a wrestler for the next person to judge. And so on. I'll start with a no brainer: Stone Cold Steve Austin |

Like you said, no brainer. Of course, yes. The only person that could rival his popularity and peak of success would be Hogan. Edge? Edited by Kraul, Jan 20 2012, 03:01 PM.

One-half of one of the absolute greatest tag teams in wrestling history, one of the guys that defined the TLC match, and a legitimate superstar during an era of blandness and repetitiveness. Yes, Edge is HOF worthy. Mr. Perfect |

I was partially waiting to see if Fate was posting and partially trying to decide on this but... I don't think I would induct him. He was great but he never fully realized his full potential or really achieved anything very special or anything that might set him apart from the countless talented midcarders. Batista? |

I wouldn't induct Batista into a Hall of Fame. It's true he was a multiple time WWE/World Champion and he was a legitimate main eventer, but he never did anything truly memorable or did anything that broke the mold. He was popular during his time, but that's it. I'm going to switch gears slightly. There is more to wrestling than just wrestlers. Let's go with a wrestling personality: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan |

Absolutely. He's one of the greatest talkers in wrestling history and one of the few who could do a good job in any role you put him in - a phenomenal job in some. I have no doubt that many would consider him to be the greatest manager and/or greatest color commentator of all-time and I think it's earned in the fullest. One that I've thought about from time to time whenever the late 70s/early 80s are talked about: Bob Backlund |

I really don't think I can say for certain one way or the other. The only knowledge of Bob Backlund that I have is from his last run in WWE where he had a very short World Title reign (Beat Bret Hart to win it, lost it to Diesel in less than 30 seconds) and then became a "nerd" by dressing in a suit and using big words (HE STOLE JERICHO'S GIMMICK!). That was not HOF material. He did have a 5 year reign during his peak years, but I know nothing about that. So I guess I'd officially have to say "undecided" and let guys with more knowledge make that decision. The n.W.o. -- and for clarity, I'm talking about the original faction/idea and not when half the roster was in the group or when they did the 12thousand spin offs |

Fine, I'll answer my own prompt: The original n.W.o. is definitely HOF worthy. This is a group that helped launch an entire company to the top wrestling company in the world and broke so many traditions in wrestling. A lot of what is normal now came from the original n.W.o. concept. If I had to induct a "class" of the n.W.o. I would induct Hall, Nash, Hogan, and Bischoff. They were the original n.W.o. Sting |

Really? Maybe you should just change the title to "HOF or Not: Featuring Posts By Cybrus & Kraul"? ![]() Anyway, Sting? Yes, definitely. He's arguably the biggest star - not to mention one of the most talented - the NWA/WCW created after Ric Flair. He was to WCW what The Undertaker or Triple H are to WWE (with Flair being WCW's Michaels more or less). Without him, the nWo would have been left without a decent rival back in the 90s and they probably would have jumped the shark much, much quicker. His work with Flair is legendary and the only person who could probably rival him in terms of face power in WCW might be Goldberg. It's actually quite a shame that more of today's fans aren't familiar with him outside of his stuff in TNA since Sting should be a much bigger name than he is. Most likely just because he's never been in WWE. Ultimate Warrior? |

Yes. I don't see why not. Quite frankly, I'm surprised he isn't in the Hall of Fame already. Warrior was at one point one of the biggest names of wrestling. The amount of guys that he inspired to get in the ring is a pretty crazy number. He was a great, great character who even won the WWE Championship to boot. Shelton Benjamin? Yes. Along with Cena, I would say Orton has pretty much been the face of the WWE for the past five years or so. I know I have been bringing up title credentials a lot when it comes to pointing out a wrestler's success, but to his credit, Randy Orton is a nine-time world champion in the 'E. Good enough to be a Hall of Famer in my eyes. Lita? Edited by Kame, Jan 23 2012, 12:58 AM.

The Man. Any Questions?

Fuck no. Women in general aren't worthy of HOF, and she's way down the list of even them. Let me be the first with a tag team: Demolition |

The Man. Any Questions?

Yes, only if we get to use his announcing tenure. As just a wrestler, no, he was regional. But overall, let him in. Jake The Snake Roberts |
