Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through

Actually, no...on all counts. It took me some time to grow to hate the Rock. Rocky Johnson's WWF career is pretty much irrelevant to the conversation as most of his career was in other organizations. If it didn't happen in the WWF, people don't know it anymore. While Johnson never used the term "Smackdown" , he did use "Jabroni". My point is that Rock was not as original as people like to give him credit for. |

Because he didn't create one or two phrases completely on his own? ![]() His persona was/is unique in the world of professional wrestling, and his catchphrases - while corny - were made his own, even if some seeds of them were planted by somebody else. The only catchphrase I would place any real doubt on is the "People's Champ" thing, and that's just because I'm not sure if he or DDP was using it first. Then again, "people's champion" isn't a wholly unique phrase created by either one of them so it might be a moot point. |

Honestly, as I grow older I'm beginning to feel debating with anybody about anything is pointless for me to do. Nobody ever seems to change their mind with all sides always determined to stand their ground and be the ones who never faltered/can claim "I was right!". I think discussion can still be good, with all sides expressing their view points and being very willing to change their mind based on new evidence. Unfortunately, the world doesn't work that way most of the time, with most discussions turning into yet another contest of "who can frustrate the other one enough for them to concede and thus prove my view is superior". I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time thinking about this stuff the past four or five months and it's beginning to make me just want to officially give up on the human species and remove myself from the world the best I can, living just for my own entertainment and saying fuck what other people think in general. I'ts not that I'm not tired of opinions, it's that I'm tired of people not being willing to change their opinions. It's beginning to appear that the whole world talks just to hear themselves make noise. /tangent |

Out of curiosity, how many times have you had your own opinion changed in debates with others? |

It depends on who I'm debating with and what it's about. If, for example, I'm talking to somebody about the existence of a god or gods and their argument for amounts to "you are wrong, god exists because I have faith" then that is going to have zero positive impact on my opinion (it just might make me hold the opposing viewpoint even lower). I have however changed my opinion or taken into consideration points from others on a lot of debates, with a recent one being on Facebook about racial and sexist slurs. I was taking the stance that slurs when used by people as terms of affection takes away the specific focused power that the word is supposed to have. For example, I I'm straying off a bit, so let me get back to the point I was making. I've come away from the debate with a somewhat different opinion, however. I still believe that words only have as much power as you allow them to have and that, in theory, it's silly to let yourself be offended by a word - however, I now also believe that words can be very offensive since they are merely a way to represent our thoughts and emotions, which can be wholly offensive themselves. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue of what words are appropriate for casual conversation now that the dust has long settled on that debate. I still think about it often, and I think I'm mostly of a similar stance as I was but I now also recognize there is some power to words on their own. My complaint about people not being willing to change their opinions isn't about my wanting more people to do a 180 on their stance. That would be ridiculous to expect of anyone in most situations. My complaint is that too many people shut out other opinions or refuse to modify their own. It's a close minded issue that people from all sides are guilty of. Instead of trying to understand ourselves and our reality better, we're obsessed with knowing or proving that we are "right". I'm beginning to feel like many adults seem to feel about teenagers. They look at them and kind of roll their eyes at how the teenagers are so convinced that they have all the answers and how they'll give the whole "I know" treatment to anything asked of them or told to them. Only instead of focusing on teenagers, I can't help but look at everybody and feeling the same way. If instead of everybody always trying to prove their superiority we decided to rationally modify our beliefs based on new evidence and view points, this world would probably be amazingly so better off. Instead, everybody is desperate to prove they are superior instead of accepting that all of us are really just trying to do what we can to make sense out of our world. I'm just growing tired of it all. It's too much stress dealing with people every day that don't want to hear opinions, that don't want to consider changing their own, instead just wanting confirmation. It's exhausting when the most apparent answer to improve life for everybody is a tolerance of opinion and an open mind to change and on a daily basis you see less and less reason to believe that will ever happen. It all just makes me want to remove myself from the world. I begin to wish I somehow magically gained several hundred million dollars and could just isolate myself somewhere, never having to speak to anybody again to escape this never ending headache, and just amuse myself with simple entertainment (games, music, movies, etc) until I die. I've been debating for much of the past year about whether or not that's what I wanted to do (at least a poor man's version of it), even before I began to realize exactly how and why I'm so frustrated with everybody. Find some job that I don't hate but can just coast by with, do the minimal amount of time and live as much like a hermit as possible - cutting myself off from interacting with anybody outside of what's required the best I can. It's still an idea I'm thinking about, |

Riddle me this Batman, how are you trying to flip this discussion to "You hate the Rock so whatever you are saying doesn't mean anything plus you are close minded." ? This was a discussion about the word "jabroni". However, let me clarify something. I hate The Rock. I don't mind Dewayne Johnson. The Rock and now John Cena are cut from the same WWE cloth. Supermen that got shoved down my throat week after week all the while Vince and the majority of fans telling me if I didn't like them, I was stupid. They said the same little catch phrases week in and out and couldn't really wrestle at all. Not my cup of tea. But, because I had to watch them in every main event year after year while never looking like they could remotely be beaten, I grew to resent and yes, hate them. Now, if the Rock is coming back to replay the same thing again, I'll pass. |

My above posts about closed-mindedness was more an inspired rant about people in general when Cybrus brought up the whole "no point in debating" thing. I had sudden thoughts about how I'm starting to avoid debates a lot of times just to avoid the headaches and just had let out a mini-rant/topic divergence to get it out of my system in the moment. The better question is how a thread started to point out an error in the name of a folder got on to the topic of The Rock.

A lot of what the whore said in that long post above is some of the things I've been thinking and feeling for the last few years as well. Except I'm already a hermit that has pretty much removed myself from most people.

I've been there before in the past, decided to try something else for the last however many years and am now looking at all of my experiences and trying to figure out wtf I want to do next. I know I don't want to do what I've been doing for the past few years but... I know living the hermit lifestyle, while nice not having to deal with a lot of the issues that give me headaches, is a really miserable way to live. It can be peaceful at times but there are so many downsides, I don't know if it's any better than being surrounded by the garbage of the world. |

Yes, it is peaceful yet very miserable. Unfortunately, I've gotten myself stuck into this position for so long that I tend to get panic attacks around most people and find it more difficult to break that cycle. Even putting that aside, my mind comes to a blank when I want to think of something different and interesting to do around here.

I'm just picking at all the little things that bug me about the board. ![]() I'm very very much in favor of a presentation overhaul because I feel this place has changed very little since 2006. It's boring to look at. 6SW is kind of like some plain wife that's been hanging around for years that rarely puts out. She's getting a little stale and needs to start putting some effort into how she looks and acts because that hot brunette across the street is looking fucking tempting to run away with. |

man no This bitch she doesn't put makeup on anymore and spends all days in ratty sweatpants. She doesn't even try most of the time. All I'm asking for is for her to put on some eye shadow and nice jeans a little more often. It makes me miss when I first met her and she was all perky and beautiful. |

That's only because she's scared to change. I'm trying to get her to come see a movie, go out some place nice to eat, do a little dancing. I keep offering to buy her something pretty but she just keeps putting on the sweats and turns up her stories. If the chick doesn't want to change, eventually I'll just have to give up and let her do it alone while I see what that pretty girl has to offer. |

But the forum style has always been to spell out every company name. We don't use "ROH Wrestling" even though that's how they market themselves. And we don't say "Impact Wrestling" even tough that's how they market themselves. Although, to be honest, the ROH folder really does need to go away. |

The blog feature of Zetaboards had/has several faults that most members complained about. By bringing the blogs to the forefront and making every blog owner the moderator of their own blog folder, then it fixed all the issues. This is why the Blog folders was first introduced. I do agree that it is bothersome that no one seems to want to blog even after requesting their own blog. Perhaps I should put a mandatory activity requirement on each blog. Like, you need to contribute x amount of blogs/updates per month to keep your blog or else they'll be removed.
