They're the pinnacle of generic radio and Walmart friendly pop rock, which makes them an abomination unto man. What they do is not artistically motivated, it's marketing at it's finest/worst. |

Yeah, it's just the "cool" thing to do to hate Nickelback. I don't care about the haters. I like Nickelback. If you don't, don't listen. |

It wouldn't be so bad if they were their own thing but they also have had a ton of other generic sound-alike bands trying to be just like them over the years. It's bands like them that make supposed alternative radio stations near impossible to listen to without wanting to blow your brains out. |

They have like 10-15 awesome songs. Hating them at this point is just hating them because "it's cool" to hate them. |

"Awesome" being relative. They all sound like generic Walmart rock. They are a more easily digestible version of what you'd probably hear in any generic non-redneck bar in America. |

Exactly my point. If you don't like them, don't listen to them. But at the same time, don't question others for liking them. I hate people that get on soapboxes just because someone likes things they personally don't like. You think it's just music, but it's the same basic principle that every other soapbox preacher is on: No abortions, follow my religion, blah, blah, blah. Shut the fuck up. Go away. |

I always find it funny when people use that argument against Nickelback, but then turn around and talk about other pop music that they like. As if there is a difference between liking one pop act over another. |

I can't speak for others, but this doesn't fit me at all. Are there pop songs that I like? Absolutely. However, I can't think of a single pop star that uses the same formula for music over and over again (like Nickelback) that I actually enjoy more than one or two songs by. I like the odd song or two from a lot of very overproduced bands but being forced to hear a half dozen or more songs by them with the same formulas over and over and over again quickly becomes a chore. It's the very same reason I can not listen to bands like ZZ Top or AC/DC, even, who are much more respected and influential - it's the same formulas on repeat and it ends up feeling like you've just been listening to the same song on loop. Nickelback would just be another mildly annoying band if they weren't jammed down the country's throats for years on end. You can argue that they've been constantly promoted because people want them, but people are fucking stupid as a group. They'll like just about anything you tell them to if you try hard enough and have the power to - people are easy to please, especially when it's non-offensive and perfectly vanilla like Nickelback (or plays to our nation's extreme xenophobia and arrogance, like Toby Keith did a decade ago). It does not require skill. It just requires the proper marketing. Nickelback is on the same level as Def Leppard, for me. I absolutely can not stand Def Leppard. Why? They were the pinnacle of overproduced and heavily marketed pop metal, while being incredibly non-offensive or particularly innovating at the same time. They were "hard" enough for vanilla white kids to feel cool and tough listening to, but generic and tame enough for nobody to really feel threatened. Easily digestible for the American mainstream and so America ate it up. Nickelback is the exact same thing all over again. They could possibly redeem themselves if they chose to do what artists do and be artistic, prove that they aren't just a group of mediocre musicians that just got lucky but instead they - or at least the producers and studios that control them - choose just repeat the same thing over and over again. All of this success and good fortune could have easily been Creed instead of them if Scott Stapp hadn't been an arrogant alcoholic. They were doing the exact same routine right before Nickelback made it big. |

That's a lot of typing for someone that doesn't like a band. Especially since I never gave any indication that I like the band a lot or that I am anything more than a casual fan of theirs -- which is all I am. I like several of their songs, but I don't get upset when others don't. And I really don't understand why people go on such big explanations for why they don't like a band that is popular. I don't like Justin Beiber. I think his music is shit. But I don't to spend 20 minutes typing up an anti-Justin Bieber post for his fans to see. I don't know, maybe it is more important for you to get your point that you don't like them than it is for me to say that I do. I like their songs. You don't. That's the end of it for me.

Huh? ![]() I don't like Madonna. Actually, other than one or two songs, I really don't like Madonna.
And this thread was clearly a joke thread started to make fun of your opinion in a non-serious way, but when it was being said that I only don't like Nickelback because its the "cool thing" to do, I had to explain that my disliking of them is legit but it's not because its "cool" to do but for more reasons other than just not liking their music. It's what they represent in addition to shitty music, not just because I'm concerned about my e-penis girth or something. I honestly couldn't give a damn what anybody listens to, but I still reserve the right to laugh at somebody.

So I looked up Nickelback's Discography on Wikipedia and counted 19 songs that I liked from them. Probably a few more if I opened each CD.
