I was... acquiring some movies that I have really warm feelings towards when it hit me that this could be a good topic for 6 Star. I'm sure most of us have at least one or two that could be describe as a kind of personal feel good movie. The kind of movie that, whether it's because of nostalgia or the message or whatever reason, simply makes you feel good while watching it (or even thinking about it). The movie may not be particularly high quality or popular, but for whatever reason, you love it. So the question is... what are some of your feel good movies? - - - - - After a few minutes of thought, three movies stand out the most to me as my personal feel good movies. Bubble Boy, Ready To Rumble, and A Night At The Roxbury. I know none of them are exactly classics or even considered to be all that good by most people, but to me, they're among my favorite movies ever. All three of them come from roughly the same period of my life, one that as bad as it is to admit, I tend to wish I could go back to every day since that period ended. The ties are so strong that quotes from the movies and anything that reminds me of them fills me of with a kind of warmth that I don't get from much else. It's always kind of bittersweet, but I still enjoy it. |

I'd say A Serbian Film. A feel good romp for the whole family.

I can probably make a big list if I looked through a movie list to jog my memory, but I have a hard time thinking of lists on demand. But 2 names to pop out to me instantly: 1) The Lion King. This is a very feel good movie to me. First of all, it's just a feel good movie that takes the viewer through all kinds of emotions and ends on a very happy note. It also has a personal feel good moment to me. I didn't go to the movies much as a kid, or ever really. My parents worked hard, but we didn't have the money to take all of us to the movies. So I never saw Lion King until it came out on VHS. Even then, I didn't see it until one of my teachers showed it in class. It was sixth grade. I don't remember why we were watching a movie in sixth grade. It might have been close to Christmas or maybe my teacher just had a hangover. I had a crush on a girl at the time, but was still too shy to say anything. Plus, she was out of my league. She was very popular and even class president. Plus, she was black and interracial couples were still very rare in my school at that time. So I never made any kind of move. But she sat next to me when we were watching Lion King. We were friends, so this wasn't anything uncommon. I remember we held hands under the desk during parts of the movie (sad parts, mostly) and when the teacher wasn't looking she gave me a kiss on the cheek too. Every time I think of Lion King, my heart momentarily fills with the same feeling I had sitting in that sixth grade classroom getting a kiss from my crush. 2) Titanic Another feel good movie, in general, that takes viewers through a whirlwind of emotions and ends on a somewhat sadder vibe...but still has a relatively happy ending. ind of. But, again, I have a personal attachment to this movie as well. I was in high school when this movie was big in the theaters, but never saw it in theaters. My mom or sister (i forget who) rented this on VHS when it came out. I remember watching this movie with my mom and brother. There is one scene where Cal is chasing Jack down the boat as it is sinking, shooting at him with his pistol. I remember my mom being all into the movie saying "You're going down! You're going down!" just being super into the movie and talking to it. And then I remember my brother being a prick and ruining the moment by being sarcastic as hell telling my mom that it was just a movie and they couldn't hear her. I remember how quickly my mom snapped out of it and how she seemed hurt as she asked my brother why he has to ruin everything like that. We finished the movie and mom got back into it, but I don't think she enjoyed it as much as she did before that. This is both a happy memory (my mom being so into the movie and lost in the moment) and a sad moment (the hurt I remember in my mom's voice). And it's probably a memory that I'll never, ever forget. I'm probably the only 1 of the 3 of us that remembers this. But I do remember this every time I watch Titanic. |

Something that just came to my attention that I could also lump in as a kind of generic label for some more feel good movies of mine - Pauly Shore movies. I don't know why, but I've always loved his movies and especially love that "weasel" persona he pushed in the early and mid 90s, and while the movies aren't anything that special, they've always given me feel good vibes while I watch them. Son-In-Law and Encino Man are my two favorites, with Son-In-Law actually being the inspiration behind my "Kraul" name. In the movie, Pauly's character went by the name of "Crawl" and it just stuck in my head and when I was looking to get away from Raven-oriented names (funny consider my current name), it was the strongest contender. People can shit on Pauly all they want but that dude is a guaranteed feel good experience for me every time. |
