I'm sure we've all got a few movies that, while they're generally well received amongst the average person it seems, you yourself can not stand. I know there's at least one movie you've seen after hearing the hype and came away wondering what the hell everybody else was thinking. So don't just sit there. Start spitting out some titles, bitches. - - - - - I reading some posts around the internet on this and I started to realize that there are a lot more of these for me than I realized, at least if I also include movies I just didn't like (but maybe didn't hate). Some of the first ones that come to mind: The hates: Napoleon Dynamite. It was so, so, so amazingly awful. The previews made it look like it could be hilarious and it was the first time I paid attention to some the hype of a movie before seeing it... and it utterly failed to live up to any of it. It was a long boring series of some cartoonish and unrealistic losers doing nothing. I wish I could get those two hours or however long it was back still. Super Troopers. It was right about the same period of time as Napoleon Dynamite but, from the maybe twenty minutes of it I could put myself through, twice as awful. I almost never let myself comment on this movie amongst people in my personal life because I know how many love the movie and I just don't want to get into it. It might be the worst movie I ever saw (at least from what I could choke down). The dislikes: The Hangover. I tried. Twice. But it fell completely flat for me. I don't understand the hype at all. Maybe it was a different experience watching it in the theater with friends when it was brand new, but watching it on your own years after the fact on a monitor just had no impact on me except boredom. I've seen more interesting or funnier "wacky adventure" movies. Shrek. It was... okay. It was a half-decent one shot animated flick. But it blew up huge and I really don't know why. I watched the second but I couldn't keep interested and honestly don't think I ever finished it. The only thing that came out of Shrek that I liked was the "Puss N Boots" character. Forrest Gump. I tried watching this a few times and finally started to make it through for the first time a few months ago but I just utterly lost interest about 2/3 of the way in. Why was that movie so huge? The only thing fun or good about it was the scenes where Tom Hanks was edited into historic footage, but it was just a gimmick that got old fast. The whole movie feels like it was strung together just to soak every drop out of that gimmick, too. Animal House. This is the movie that inspired all of this for me today. I've seen pieces over the years but honestly tried to watch it just a few hours ago. I really think it's one of those things where it was probably awesome when it came out but nowadays? It's just not funny. It's boring and incredibly dated. Then again, that's pretty much how I feel about Belushi in general. I know there are more but these are the main ones that come to mind. |

The Man. Any Questions?

Okay, first just lump every single remake and/or reboot into the "Hate" folder. Should go without saying for anyone who knows me around here. Now, on to others: 1. I second Gump. I HATE that shit with a burning passion. I hate it so much, I would love to punch Tom Hanks square in his fucking face. And I don't even dislike the guy; it's this one movie that is an unforgivable crime. 2. Titanic. A chick fucks a bum. Ship sinks. Big fucking deal. 3. Avatar. Haven't we seen this storyline in a billion other films before this? Oh, but it's got blue people! So what. 4. The new (Daniel Craig) Bond movies. Casino Royale I could at least stomach, but I can't even sit through the first half hour of Quantum of Solace. 5. Anything that wins the Best Picture Oscar (except Rocky and The Godfather). 'Nuff said. |

At times, I'm borderline like that for the Bond films starring Sean Connery. I've greatly enjoyed every James Bond movie I've seen, except for the ones with Sean Connery (with Goldfinger being the sole exception that I know of). Granted, I've only watched the movies featuring the four biggest James Bonds (Connery, Moore, Brosnan, and Craig) so I can't say his are the worst, but I definitely don't enjoy them and definitely don't think of him when I think of James Bond. I'm not even really sure why it is that I don't enjoy the Connery era Bond films, I just know that I don't. It's definitely not Connery because I really enjoy him in everything else I've seen him in, and it's not necessarily the tones since the Roger Moore films have a similar feel at times. It's just a case of a few great flavors coming together and not being anywhere near as good as they should be, I guess. It's probably also the hype affecting it, though. There is always so much praise for Connery's Bond that it's nearly impossible to actually live up to that hype for everybody, especially when there doesn't seem to be anything about him or that era that seems to qualify it for being better than the later films other than it simply being "first". Unless it's just because people love their Bond to be almost cartoonishly masculine and misogynistic (which Bond is kind of a pig at times but Connery's just seems like a huge one), then I guess I could understand. I definitely don't agree that that kind of James Bond is the best though. |

I could never really see the big deal in a lot of those popular gangster flicks everyone looks up to like Scarface, The Departed, Goodfellas, Guy Ritchie films, etc. Especially Goodfellas. I can never fully sit through it. Never been big on musicals either with one or two exceptions. |

Scarface! There's one I forgot! That movie seems to be absolutely fucking crazily praised and I just don't understand why. I think it might be purely because it's considered "cool" to worship at the throne of Scarface since so many rappers seem to idolize Tony Montana (or at least did when I last paid attention). It was an okay movie at best, imo. Then again, like you said, I'm not really into "gangsters". I don't think they're cool or even all that interesting usually. |

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!

Didn't you enjoyed No Country For Old Men? Anyways... hate: Napoleon Dynamite. How the fuck people enjoy this shit? I'd rather watch Jersey Shore before being forced to watch Napoleon Dynamite ever again. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. 30 minutes into this film (disappointing because I actually liked the first movie) and I really wanted to leave the theater. I didn't because it would have been disrespectful to leave my dad and brother watching it in the big screen. It didn't got better after 30 minutes. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Ugh. I'd need to re-check what else I watched. But from 2011, I think the worst film of that year that I've seen is Bad Teacher. |

The only thing I enjoyed about that pointless piece of shit was the fact that it finally ended. |

I saw No Country for the first time back around January, maybe February, and at first I thought it could have been really good... ...but by the half way point I had lost almost all interest in it and the ending was possibly the least satisfying movie ending ever. I get that it was supposed to be artistic, but something can be artistic and shit at the same time. It feels like the person who wrote that wanted to desperately avoid the standard Hollywood ending or anything similar to it and just pulled the plug. It was the equivalent to telling some long drawn out story and then in the middle of a chase say "and then a meteor hits the Earth and they all die. The end." Or having sex with somebody and then suddenly pulling out, putting on your pants and walking out without notice. What? What just happened? I actually had to look into the ending further because I knew that I had to be missing something but nope, it is what it is. Spoiler: click to toggle Another movie I saw recently thinking it could be good, although highly doubting it would be as good as some people make it out to be is The Big Lebowski. I really don't understand what people love about that movie. I don't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it. It was just... there.

BURN IT DOOOWWNNNNNNNN!

The Godfather Trilogy - Alright but overrated (What amazed me was that I did't even notice that it was Al Pacino until half-way through the first movie) Scarface - Holy shit overrated. I prefer Tommy Vercetti anyway. The Hurtlocker - Alright but not MOTY worthy. Anything to do with the Borat actor. Napoleon Dynamite - Fuck that movie Animal House - Maybe I just have to grow up in the time period of the movie Titanic - Because this movie made me hate Leo for years. There are more, but I can't think of them. |
