It's been reported for months that WWE is in the process of making a new championship belt that will replace CM Punk's current "spinner" belt.

Punk confirmed in a recent interview that the belt will debut very soon. He speculated it could debut as early as WWE SummerSlam (it didn't) or by next month's Night of Champions pay-per-view.

To update this situation, we can report that Rick Petko from Orange County Choppers, which is featured on The Discovery Channel's American Chopper television series, is helping with the creation of the belt.

He tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that he is currently, "Annealing aluminum for a WWE Championship belt."

That looks exactly like the last rumored pic. I want to hope that's not the new belt, but it looks like it is. I dunno, maybe they'll somehow make that look better when it's fully complete, but right now that's horrible looking. They may as well keep the current belt if the new belt is going to look just as bad.

But on the other hand, that looks fricken huge. No way is that the actual plate. Perhaps that's just the mold for the plate? Dunno how that'll make it better, but the new belt cannot be that big...can it?

You know, I've been trying to figure out why I dislike this design, and the reason I've come up with is strange. The fact that it's the wwe logo, something we see all the time, makes it nothing special. I remember the old design, however, was unique and sort of a treat to look at. There was something grand about it all, probably the fact that a giant eagle had its wings spread over a globe, symbolising that you weren't just champion of wwf if you won this, you were champion of the world. I also notice that there's not much else to this belt as opposed to others. It feels like they're trying to shove the logo in our face, whereas older models had the logo, just much smaller and not the main attraction. It let you know this was a wwf belt, but that wasn't all there was to it, like this one and the spinner.

I agree that WWE shouldn't try to make their logo the dominate eye focal point of the belt. But at the same time I understand why they are doing it. It is the "WWE Title". They already have a World Title with a World Title design. So they are going to make the WWE Title very obviously WWE. I think there is more creative ways to do it than having a giant WWE logo and then drawing a shape around that, though.

- WWE Champion CM Punk appeared at the Ohio Comic-Con and participated in a panel over the weekend. The new design for the WWE Title was brought up and Punk said that he had no idea, but that "they are working on it."

Punk was then asked if he had any input in the new belt, to which he replied, "I'd like to say that I have a little bit of say in that, but I just keep getting the runaround. I don't know if they're saving the new design for somebody else or what the deal is. But they're sick of me asking about it, I know that."
