STAY HYPED!!!
I know some items were posted in this week's Raw thread, but I think this deserves it's own topic. The latest update I've read is:

ProWrestling.net

The WWE website has been updated with confirmation of the heart attack that Jerry Lawler suffered during Monday's Raw. "We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future," reads the statement. "Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family." You can view the statement on the main page of WWE.com.

ProWrestling.net

WWE Hall of Famer will undergo heart surgery today, according to the WMC TV website. You can read the story at WMCTV.com/Global/story.asp?S=19507908.

So he had a heart attack and he'll be undergoing surgery today. I think I speak universally when I say I hope all the best for Jerry.

I really feel for Micheal Cole. I know he and Lawler feud on camera, but you know these guys have to be close. To sit there and watch your good friend collapse beside you and STILL have to call a match during the entire thing...I cannot even begin to imagine what he was feeling. You could see him choked up each time he spoke about Lawler. I am glad they went with the no-commentary thing soon afterward though.

I also feel for the wrestlers that still had to perform. It had to be trying on them to still go out there and perform even though they were worried about Lawler. That's why I didn't even comment on Raw this week. Nothing that happened after Jerry's collapse can really be judged fairly. I'm sure those guys were trying to put on the best show possible, but you know they couldn't have been truly into it.

Smith Hart tweeted about Lawler.

Quote:

11:37 PM - According to my friend Jeremy Prophet who was backstage at RAW, Jerry was clinically dead for 20 min before being brought back by defibrilat.
This seems hard to believe for me. If he was dead for 20 minutes, then that means no blood was flowing to his brain. Wouldn't he suffer major brain damage if he had no oxygen to his brain for that extended period of time? I'm sure I remember a story about a woman being completely brain dead after just 5 minutes of no oxygen to her brain.

6 months ago, Fabrice Muamba (ex-football player) had a cardiac arrest and recovered despite his heart having stopped for more than 1 hour. Normally, you would hear about people being clinically dead for 5-10 minutes and recover. But there are rare cases like Fabrice and Jerry.

Back to Jerry, he had a wrestling match just before his heart collapsed. I know Jerry still wrestles outside WWE, but maybe this could stop WWE and other companies (unlikely, though) from having wrestlers similar to Jerry's age stepping inside the ring and having matches (even if it happen on occasion).

Thankfully this happened at Raw, because if this had happened back in his hotel room this might have been a completely different story.

In my area, which is basically the Memphis, TN market, this has been all over the TV and radio today. Here is the latest article posted about 1 hr ago:

Jerry "The King" Lawler is stabilized after having a heart attack Monday night during a WWE wrestling match.

Lawler's best friend and business partner, Joe Cooper, told Action News 5 he took Lawler's girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, to the airport Tuesday morning to be by his side.

Action News 5's Dave Brown is a good friend of Lawler, as well. He has been in touch with the wrestler's family, who says he is breathing on his own but is not verbally responding to doctors or visitors.

"Saturday night he complained of chest pains and he blew it off as something he ate. He doesn't ever complain and he's very healthy," said Cooper.

Cooper says he last saw his friend at the airport Monday morning. Lawler was headed to Canada.

"All of a sudden all heck broke loose, the phone starting ringing," Cooper described.

Cooper says he awoke Monday night to news that Lawler had suffered a heart attack.

He said his friend always had a good appetite.

"He loves to eat, but he doesn't abuse his body with drugs or alcohol. Never had a beer," Cooper explained. "There's a reason why at 62 years old he can lift a 400 pound man and throw him across the street."

According to Cooper, Lawler was working on a new Memphis wrestling show. He says people everywhere were anticipating "The King's" return.

"LeBron James called him the other day and said "King, I just want you to know I saw you the other day on RAW and you're the real King," said Cooper.

Lawler was rushed to a Montreal hospital where he underwent emergency heart surgery and is now stabilized.

Action News 5's Jerica Phillips asked Cooper if this is the end for the King in the ring.

"Have you lost your mind? He'll be back...NO," he answered.

Cooper says with the 'OK' from doctors, Lawler will return to wrestling and make a full recovery.

"I think if everybody in the viewing area says a little prayer for him he's going to be fine," he said.

It's great that his condition has stabilized, but if it's true about him being clinically dead for that long, then there might be some brain damage.

Grandmaster Sexy shares and update about his father:

ProWrestling.net

Brian Lawler released the following statement regarding the condition of Jerry Lawler, who suffered a heart attack during Monday's Raw.

"Okay, here’s the latest real update. Lauren and I are here at the hospital in Montreal. He does not look good at all. He is responsive to questions that he is asked which is very good. His sedation and breathing support are being lowered slowly right now. He was shocked a total of seven times at the arena and underwent a balloon stint to open up a clogged artery when he arrived at hospital. Everyone out there needs to say a special prayer for his brain at this point, please. Tests on his brain will not be available until the morning. One of us two will keep all you guys informed as we know more."

This is the first time I've seen anyone say Lawler doesn't look good. Leave it to family to be honest.

Michael Cole comments on the events from Monday Night:

ProWrestling.net

WWE broadcaster Michael Cole appeared on the Fox & Friends show on Fox News on Wednesday to discuss the Jerry Lawler situation. Cole noted that he jumped up and hit his mute switch when he saw what happened to Lawler and then called for a doctor. He said Lawler passed all of the WWE medical testing and noted that he wrestles 100 to 150 times per year. You can view the interview at Youtube.com/watch?v=_N8iGa3a2SQ.

Lots of good news to share on Lawler:

ProWrestling.net

Brian Christopher Lawler released the following statement regarding the condition of Jerry Lawler, who suffered a heart attack during Monday's Raw.

"The CT scan of my dad's brain came back good! With his brain not receiving oxygen for as long as it did there was a chance he could have had brain damage. I truly believe everyone's prayers are working and the Lord is holding him in the palm of his hand. Today is another day, so how about another prayer for 'the King.'" WREG (CBS Memphis) is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler is breathing on his own after being removed from the ventilator, and that "no further surgery will be needed and Lawler will be sent back to Memphis soon." Michael Cole tweeted tonight that he had been in touch with Jerry "The King" Lawler, just two days after King's heart attack while WWE's Monday Night Raw was airing live. Cole tweeted. "#wweuniverse You will never believe this! I just got off the phone with [Jerry Lawler] and he is alert and in great spirits! [Lawler] sends his love to you all and thanks you for all the support! He says the strap will be coming down soon! Folks [Jerry Lawler] is going to win this!"

So great news all around. There was no brain damage, Jerry is off machines, and should be headed home soon. Just great news. :)

The man just had a heart attack that would have probably killed him if he hadn't been at a WWE event, and his first photographed meal is of a huge steak? Fuck you, death! Right? Right? Yeah, fuck you death!

Now I'm not huge on terms and such, but what kind of heart attack would this be considered? A major or more of a minor? It seems major because he may have been dead for 20 minutes, but after 3 days he seems almost completely normal, aside from probably being very weak.

LOP

Jerry "The King" Lawler, who suffered a heart attack while announcing at a WWE event in Montreal Sept. 10, made his first public appearance on Friday at an independent wrestling show that took place at the Mid-South Fair in South Haven, Mississippi.

Before his heart attack, Lawler, 62, was scheduled to wrestle in two matches. Instead, he met fans and served as a ringside commentator.

Speaking to Action News 5 is Memphis, Tennessee, Lawler said WWE head Vince McMahon assured him to take as much time off as he needs. Lawler, however, is targeting November for his full-time return to the squared circle and broadcast booth. He originally wanted to return to the ring and booth this month, but McMahon felt it was "too soon."

Before making his full-time return, Lawler will appear at the October 16 SmackDown taping in Memphis, Tennessee.
