WWE revealed that John Cena underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove bone chips from his elbow through a scope. Cena will be out four to six weeks. Read the official statement at WWE.com/shows/raw/2012-09-17/cena-undergoes-arm-surgery-26053092.

WWE has already changed their estimated timeline for John Cena's return to the ring following elbow surgery on Tuesday. The WWE website's original report stated he would be out for four to six weeks. The updated version of the story now lists two to three weeks recovery time.

So Cena has a surgery that requires up to 6 weeks to heal at the same time that WWE has a 6 week gap between PPVs? This was definitely planned in advance. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. But looks like we won't see another Cena match until HIAC.

So he has elbow problems too? I would've thought it was for his ankle.

I'd give him the entire six weeks off, no use in rushing back and re-aggravating anything.

It'll also give everyone a break from him

I don't expect Cena to miss any TV time. If they knew about this surgery in advance (and it seems like they did), then they wouldn't have continued with Punk/Cena on Monday night if they thought Cena wouldn't be able to perform at HIAC. So i suspect Cena will be on Raw each week, continuing the feud, but not doing anything physical until HIAC.

I'm surprised they didn't go the route of having Punk attack Cena's arm with a chair and taking credit for him needing surgery, storyline wise.

John Cena took to Twitter today and had harsh words for the WWE.com story that said his rehab time from elbow surgery was around three weeks. "Some #jackwagon from WWE.com apparently posted me recovering in 14 days. I spoke in depth with my surgeon Dr James Andrews, and he specifically told me due to the amount of fragmentation, SIX WEEKS is a safer time table for recovery. I apologize on behalf of a website whose credibility is now equal to The Onion please WWE web guys, get your monkey frankin facts straight!"

Did John Cena just rant against WWE.com? How many wrestlers could do that and get away with it? Not many!

Hey The Onion is funny, no need to drag their name into this.
