Yeah, there's no way he's winning the match at Hell in a Cell now. Not unless there was a very good reason... but seriously, it didn't even look like the guy did anything. Looked like he was posing for a picture or something. After seeing a clearer and longer version, it's not surprising that this happened. It looks especially bad that he got the wrong guy though. He should definitely appologize personally or at least publicly. Some other dude in the back slapped him off the head and that's what set him off. Apparently the guy who did it has been bragging on twitter too. Edited by Cableguy15, Oct 9 2012, 10:44 PM.

I don't see this incident costing Punk the WWE Title. WWE has invested too much into Punk's reign to let this change their plans. There is a bigger story at play. There is Punk vs Rock on the horizon. There is Rock introducing a new belt after defeating Punk. There is Rock going into WrestleMania as the defending Champion in a rematch against either Punk or Cena. That's the bigger story. If anything comes out of this, it's just that wrestlers won't be allowed to run into the crowd for a while anymore. I watched the video. Punk was slapped several times, so I can understand why he spun around and backhanded someone. It's a shame the wrong person took the blow, but the message did get out. Fans shouldn't hit wrestlers when they go into the crowd. I don't think this s a major incident. It came across as a simple matter of a heel acting heelish towards fans. He pushed them. He backhanded one. But he didn't do anything violent. But if there is blame to go around, it should be shared by the fans that were attacking Punk, Punk for putting so much force behind the backhand, and security for not surrounding Punk like they were suppose to. |

With how PC the company has become with Linda running for senate, I can see this coming back to bite Punk in the ass. Yeah, he was reacting to fans smacking him, but the news and her opponents aren't going to report that. They're going to focus on one of the WWE employees punching an innocent bystander.

I will be completely shocked if WWE takes the title off Punk. It would be a complete overreaction on their part. Plus, has this gotten any kind of attention outside of wrestling sites? |

What happens to Punk may actually tell us where he stands with wwe. If I remember correctly Jericho attacked a woman (Who had also hit him) around the start of the PG era and he had no visible consequences after that... granted, this was outside the arena. Also, security really is a part of the blame here, I'd say. Usually they're around pushing fans away; especially from their main event guys. |

Of course, it's also a risk you take when you leave the arena floor and go into the crowd. No one should touch a performer, but everyone knows its a risk. |

This is the first I've seen of the story being picked up outside wrestling sites. I'm reading the fan will probably get a pay out from WWE...probably not to press charges. Shit, why didn't Punk hit me?! ![]() I still don't see Punk losing the title because of this. |

I agree. Punk is a heel. He's suppose to be hated by the fans. He still gets huge pops. Use this to turn the fans. Don't get me wrong. I do not agree with wrestlers attacking innocent fans, but no one was hurt and Punk really didn't do that much considering he was hit several times himself. I say use it. Use it on Raw this week. Let Punk be the one to use it. Or Heyman. |

He was pushed a few times, no one back fisted him or face palmed him. I get it that everyone loves Punk, but he should of had more composure than that. |

The man was punched three times, getting shoved, and heard threats of being pushed down the stairs. Admittedly, he should have handled it differently, but he didn't do anything really violent. He did a spinning backhand and pushed a guy. His punishment should fit that crime. He shouldn't get off free, but he shouldn't be overly punished either. |

So you're telling me if you were surrounded by a group of people that were pushing you and had been struck several times, you overheard people possibly plotting to push you down the stairs, and you saw that security were nowhere around, that you wouldn't push people away from you? I don't condone what Punk did, but I understand why he did it. |

That's speculation, just because Punk said he heard it doesn't mean it was said, he could be just trying to save what little face he has ![]()
Yeah the security fucked up big time, but all I'm saying that Punk should be held to a higher standard than what I've been reading, everyone around the internet has been a bit too forgiving. Just as it's a risk for idiot fans to rush the ring and get a few pops from the wrestlers, there's a risk for the wrestlers going into the crowd that's probably inebriated. |

I don't think it's that fans are too forgiving. Well, I can't say that for sure since I don't know what you've read. I'm certainly not being too forgiving. Punk was wrong in his actions. I just think the punishment should fit the crime. Taking the belt off Punk now would be an overreaction and would be over punishment. That's what I'm saying. |

If you watch this entire video, Punk was clearly pushed from behind 3 times. The third time, the guy he hit, actually does hit Punk in the head with his arm. That is when Punk smacks him. Cybrus put up this gif that shows it very well.![]() And there is another guy that pushes him in the back at the same time. Edited by Purple Marauder, Oct 14 2012, 06:10 AM.

The guy Punk hits does not touch Punk. He says that his elbow brushed Punk earlier, but right before Punk spins around and clocks the guy, someone else hits Punk. In one of the videos you can clearly see some cunt in a white shirt standing behind the guy Punk hits. That guy reaches his hand around the guy and shoves Punk in the back of the head. Punk definitely hits the wrong guy. |

Looking at the video in slow motion actually makes me more ticked off at the douche in white who hit punk and bailed. Apparently he was bragging on twitter about Punk taking it on on the wrong guy.
