I actually got this from a documentary trailer called Sound City (directed by *coughs* Dave Grohl), where they posted some videos online of some musicians talking about their first musical memory, i.e. their first experience that made them fall in love with music, or at least introduced them. It made me think of me and where it all started. For me, my first real musical memory was finding a lot of my parents' old cassette tapes when I was around 5, and listening to Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" cassette almost non-stop. It was random at the time, but it's what really gave me my taste for older rock and more melodic music as opposed to lyrical rap or pop. My parents eventually bought me a live cassette they did at one point, which I never took out of my Walkman. I remember the day they aired the event on VH1 (if I looked it up I could figure out which concert it was easy) and them doing this huge rendition of "Don't Stop" with an extended marching band and everything. Edit: The live album is The Dance, which was released in '97. Yeah, that tape got worn out fast. ![]() Then, my first ever CD purchase was Smash Mouth's Fush Yu Mang, which was the album that had their big hit "Walking on the Sun" on it. I don't even know why, but I listened to it non-stop as well, and still consider it one my favorite CDs ever, even though most people don't even remember who Smash Mouth is. It opened me up to a more punk/alternative/ska atmosphere, and the idea that more kooky and sarcastic lyrics in music is actually really fun and entertaining. Even though I listened to a lot of 90's rock at the time like Sister Hazel, Barenaked Ladies, Foo Fighters, and Matchbox Twenty, and all them, I think Smash Mouth was the first of those bands I really fell in love with. Anyone else? Edited by WWEFootos48, Dec 9 2012, 10:27 PM.

I think my first CD ever was Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men. The Now That's What I Call Music! CDs were also a vital part of my childhood. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I think Blink-182 was the band that got me into punk rock.

The earliest memory I have involving music when I use to annoy the living shit out of my father by playing Starship's "We Built This City" over and over again. I think that was my first favourite song. I was also a huge Michael Jackson fan when I was a kid and he was probably a huge fan of mine if he ever met me at that age. My first CD was that Killer Cuts album that got with Killer Instinct on the SNES, but I'm not sure if that counts. My first proper purchase though was "The Crow: City of Angels" soundtrack. |

This is the first music video I really remember, hilarious really. Spoiler: click to toggle I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to music afterwards, the first cd I got, I actually won it from the radio, was Them Vs. You Vs. Me by Finger Eleven, I fell in love with that album, listened to it all the time. Of course, this was also when I first started dating. Spoiler: click to toggle Also around this time I was huge into System of a Down. Hated them at first but they really grew on me. I would annoy my friends with how much I listened to them lol. Once I got into music I couldn't stop finding more. Still can't.

My mom use to listen to Muddy Waters, I think that's the first musical memory I have. My first cassette was probably Space Jam and my first CD was a DMX CD I think. |
