The WWE has announced on their website that the WWE Network is free to new subscribers in the month of July. Again, it appears that this will be WWE's policy during the year minus August, January and the month WrestleMania falls in.
It's almost comical how frequently WWE is doing this. I'm not a new subscriber, but somehow managed to get June for free. Very tempted to register an account under a different e-mail address, so that I can get July for free, as well.

You've got to be a pretty bad person to create new accounts to steal Network free trials considering all the great content they only ask $10 for.

Let's be honest, the Network could be better, but it's a pretty revolutionary concept for the industry. Even if you're not a big fan of the current product, you have to be crazy not to support the model itself.

I'm a bad person for finding a way to temporarily not pay for a 500-million dollar company's streaming service? Give me a fucking break.

For the record, I didn't even have to register using a different email address to get July for free. They gave me another month of the Network for nothing, for whatever reason. Must be a glitch in their system. I'm not complaining.

It's like the old AOL disks. You used one for a free month. Then you called to cancel and they give you another month for free to stay. You kept doing that until they final let you cancel. Then you go out and get another free disk and start all over again. I never paid for dial up at the time.

It's not comical at all. It is a very smart business decision that has proven to work. New customer incentives isn't anything exclusive to WWE. It's something that most businesses do. The only thing comical is how "smart" fans react each month even though they aren't "smart" enough to realize that every month is going to be free excluding January (Royal Rumble), March or April (WrestleMania), and probably August (SummerSlam). Aside from those three PPV months, expect WWE to continue offering a free month to new subscribers. As they should.

No, I will not give you a "fucking break". I will call you out though. The WWE Network is a great value and is extremely underpriced. They could easily charge $20 for the Network and it still wouldn't be overpriced. The biggest complaint used to be that PPVs are extremely overpriced and don't deliver what you pay for. Now the PPVs are dirt cheap and you get access to NXT, WWE produced shows, and thousands of hours of archives. Yet, instead of supporting this revolutionary concept some people would like to brag how "smart" they are by bypassing the system to get multiple free months or illegally streaming still. How about you be a good fan and support the product you supposedly like! Not only is this a great thing for WWE fans, but it is a model other wrestling companies could potentially follow some day. But that's going to be increasingly difficult if fans would rather cheat a company out of a very reasonable fee.

Do you pay for your porn? Just curious...

Which other wrestling companies exactly are going to be able to follow this plan? In what future is there going to be a company that has the support or product to get a million subscribers to a service like this much less have the funds to support setting up something like this? In theory, this is a perfect model for any company that produces it's own programming, much less a wrestling company, if it has the support to sustain it. But there will never be another wrestling company that can do this as long as the WWE is the huge juggernaut that it has been for decades.

If the product isn't actually available to you, then you aren't cheating anyone by acquiring it.

Porn is free on most sites. That's like asking if I pay to watch youtube videos. And my point isn't that streaming in general is bad. I used to stream every WWE PPV and couldn't remember which PPV I actually paid for before the Network. My point is that the WWE Network, specifically, is a perfectly priced (under priced, actually) product that WWE fans should support instead of streaming.

And I don't think the break even point for every company is always going to be 1 million subscribers. I know New Japan Pro Wrestling has a similar version and their break even point is much less than 1 million subscribers. Although, admittedly I don't know the exact figure of their break even point.

Since this question was recently asked in this thread, I feel it is relevant to point out that the NWA is launching a version as well:

Quote:

The NWA has announced that it's streaming service, NWA Classics 24/7, is now live. It's a collection of videos from the archive of Houston Wrestling Promoter Paul Boesch. It includes matches from the late 1960s through 1986. Most of the matches haven't been seen in over thirty years. Starting in the middle of the month, new matches will be added everyday.

According to the press release: "Paul Boesch brought in the very top wrestling talent from around the world. This collection features many of the greatest NWA matches ever seen."

Matches released this month include:

Harley Race vs. Andre the Giant for the NWA World Title
NWA World Title Match - Ric Flair vs. Wahoo McDaniel
NWA World Title Match * Ric Flair vs. Terry Taylor
Dusty Rhodes vs. Mark Lewin
Butch Reed vs. Magnum TA
Kevin Von Erich vs. Chris Adams
Dory and Terry Funk vs. Mil Mascaras and Jose Lothario
Gino Hernandez vs. Ivan Putski
Butch Reed vs. Buddy Landell in a "Shoeshine Match"
Ivan Putski vs. Abdullah the Butcher
Brad Armstrong vs. One Man Gang
24-Man, Two-Ring Battle Royal with a Surprise Winner!
Plus - Early Shawn Michaels footage, Superstar Billy Graham, the JYD, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, The Rock n' Roll Express, and more!

The service is $8.99 per month of $99.000 per year (one free month) for unlimited viewing. Those who registered with cleeng.com and viewed the Free Highlight reel can select and purchase a subscription plan. It's compatible with Apple IOS, Safari, Google Android, Chrome, Chromecast, Mozilla Firefox and more. There are currently minor issues with Internet Explorer but it's not an issue on all devices and is being worked on. Technical issues or questions can be reported through email at tech@NWAClassics.com

Much like New Japan World, I have no idea how many subscribers it'd take for NWA to reach their break even point. However, since this is archives and may not include live streaming, then I'd assume the break even is much lower.

According to a survey sent out by WWE, the company may be considering offering pay-per-views for $4.99 on the WWE Network apart from an actual month long subscription.

I'm not really sure why anyone would pay $5 to watch 1 PPV when they could pay $10 for the entire month, but to each their own. Some people only want the Network for the PPV so this could be profitable for WWE.

Someone on another site brought up a good point that this could really cannibalize current subscription rates. I don't think WWE will move on it.

Honestly, I'm in love with it right now. Since they've opened up most early Attitude Era episodes, I've been able to binge watch weekly Raw Is War episodes AND follow it up with the pay per views they were promoting. Basically to me, a 12 pack of beer is between 10 and 12, and say even driving over a bridge into New York is 13 and yet this for an entire month is 9.99. Sorry, WWE wins.

Although let's change the subject for a moment. I'm getting into the December '98 episodes where JR started having his problems. There's one episode, and I know we all know the story about their taping arrangements; they would tape one live episode then tape one for the next week. There's one episode where JR's mom dies. They sort of acknowledge it and Michael Cole is the lead announcer. Yet, during the show, JR is clearly seen at the announcer's table during the entire show. Obviously they tried their best to hide it, but it's pretty funny how they dubbed over the entire show with Cole even though JR did complete it. That was the episode Undertaker hung Austin on his symbol right before that Bad Blood PPV.

So I'm now at the end of 1998. I realize it's at the point where it doesn't seem morbid anymore to talk about the Blue Blazer gimmick. This is my first time going through this storyline and remembering it but the Blue Blazer was a different person every week even though each week they said it was Owen. I'm actually curious how they kept this going for 5 more months.

Sweet, I just signed up for the free month so as long as I cancel by September 5th I won't be charged although for ten pound a month you get a lot of content so I may keep it for longer! In regards to Nitro it has Sept - Dec 1995 and then all of 1996! I may give them a watch, generally I always enjoyed the undercard matches of WCW PPVs so the weekly shows could have some good stuff in them.

Honestly, I would check out some of the original content too. Some of it may seem cheesy, but they even have a Jerry Springer show on there. One of them actually mentions the Katie Vick angle so you know they're not pulling any punches and are trying to cater to real fans.

WWE and Paul Heyman announced during Sunday night's Night of Champions event that a special tour featuring Brock Lesnar will soon be taking place, dubbed the "Brock Lesnar: Go To Hell Tour."

The tour consists of the following:

*Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show, Saturday October 3rd at Madison Square Garden live on WWE Network

*Stone Cold Podcast appearance, Monday October 19th live on WWE Network following WWE Raw

*Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker, Sunday October 25th at Hell in a Cell event in a Hell in a Cell Match live on WWE Network
The WWE missed a huge marketing opportunity by not advertising this tour as "Brocktober." Just saying. Anyway, I'm looking forward to Lesnar's appearance on Austin's podcast more than anything else.

Brocktober would have been fantastic! I am guessing WWE is more concerned with the "to hell" theme as a way to promote the much disliked HIAC PPV. Or am I generally the only one that dreads this PPV (and TLC) each year?

Checking out a few of the announced show, the Legends with JBL show sounds great. I'll be checking that out. I believe they've added 100 more hours of Nitro, even though they say most subscribers don't watch the archives too much. Breaking Ground looks like it could be fun, but it would depend on which guy they are following at the time. Some people I just don't care about.

In a post on Bushiroad’s official website, Bushiroad President Takaaki Kidani hinted that WWE has reached out to New Japan Pro Wrestling to get the content for the WWE Network.

He wrote: “One proposed idea would be for the WWE to show NJPW footage [on the Network], but this type of proposal just shows that they don’t see us as competition. Play NJPW footage on the Network, see if any of our wrestlers gain popularity, then buy that wrestler out; that’s probably the extent of their thoughts on it. It’s a very obvious strategy.”

NJPW has their own streaming service called New Japan World. They also have a weekly show that airs Fridays on AXS TV, which brings in strong ratings for the network. Kidani said that while it is a long way off, they want to compete with major entertainment groups.
