I would pay $9.95 a month for the WWE network if it meant getting most PPVs for free. I'm sure we'd still have to pay for WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble though...probably Survivor Series too, but WWE doesn't treat that as a big PPV anymore.

- F4Wonline.com reports that WWE has sent out a memo stating that Chris Benoit footage will be allowed on its new Network broadcasts. There will be an advisory played before every show he appears on.

WWE is expected to announce the Network in Las Vegas next week.

Benoit? Benoit? Nope, don't think I ever heard of this guy. Yeah, you laugh, but there is a generation growing up on WWE right now that can say that!

So, WWE is going to announce the new WWE network this coming week? I wonder if that just means another generic annoucement or if they'll actually announce a start date. I'm thinking they'll launch during WrestleMania week, since that was the plan however many years ago.

Stone Cold?! This is the first time Austin has done anything WWE related in how many years? I wonder if this is just a one time appearance or if it's a sign that Austin and WWE has a working relationship again. Could we see him on Old School Raw? Could he do something during WrestleMania season?

If this is about the Network...

...he'll probably host some show or another. I'm sure a lot of the retired guys will get a chance to host shows if they want to.

I'll watch a Stone Cold hosted show. Have you ever listened to his podcasts?

If they are actually announcing the network, like legitimately announcing it is starting and not just announcing the concept again, then I wonder how much it will cost. I would pay $10 a month. Maybe even $20, but definitely not higher than that. I have a bad feeling this will cost $50 a month and I'll go nowhere near it.

I have. If he has a good guest, they are usually good. However, when is guest isn't able to carry the bulk of the show, they aren't so great.

This didn't register the first time I read the announcement above, but I noticed on Raw that they said the announcement was going to be at 9:30 p.m. I thought it was 9:30 a.m. when I first read the announcement. Why are they waiting waiting so late to make this announcement? Seems like an odd time consider most people are done for the day at that time.

The weekly Michael Cole sit-down interview with Triple H focussed on the big announcement at CES in Las Vegas, Nevada. Triple H said he couldn't give any hints, but he added that Vince pioneered the syndicated television industry, the closed circuit industry, and the pay-per-view industry. "(CES) is the perfect place for Vince McMahon to go and change the world again," Hunter said. You can view the video at Youtube.com/watch?v=gwDigbOWmbI.

Change the world again? WWE is all about grandeur, but I'm not sure how this could change the world. Maybe WWE has something to announce that we don't already suspect? Assuming the price is reasonable, I'd be willing to try out the WWE Network for at least a few months. Being able to DVR PPVs on the nights I work would be a plus, I guess.

$9.99 * 12 months = $119.88, a very rough estimate. We recently upgraded our internet, so I'm finally stream stuff without constant buffering on my end, so I might actually throw away money on this.

I am also seriously considering dropping the $9.99 a month for the WWE Network. I end up buying WrestleMania on PPV nearly every year, so subscribing seems like a pretty logical decision for me.

So this is not so much an actual network as much as it is a subscription to an online database. I mean, that's still a really good price for this service, so I'm not complaining. The fact that you get all 12 PPVs plus access to ALL past PPVs for only $10/month is incredible. Although, I do suspect a few PPVs will be absent. I still don't think they'll show the PPV where Owen died, for example.

At first, I was a little bummed out that I couldn't record stuff on my DVR while I was at work...mainly PPVs. But if I'm reading this right, the PPVs will be available immediately after airing, correct? so I could just come home and watch the PPVs. Am I reading this right? I am also not sure if this will stream through my Wii U. I hope it does. I'll be a bit upset if I don't.

But, yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll sign up for the first 6 months and see how much I like it from there.

Well, that makes no sense at all. I understand Wii U gets left out in USA as a lot of people only think Playstation and XBox are the only 2 gaming consoles, but there are 5 million plus Wii U owners and 100 million plus Wii owners. Is WWE not interested in their money? And we are only talking about streaming here, so it's not even the bad hardware specs argument this time.

If you don't like math, feel free to skip this paragraph. I was tossing some numbers around with a friend, and we figured it like this: If WWE averages 200,000 PPV buys monthly at an average of $50, that generates $10mil (which is split between WWE and PPV/cable companies). In order to generate the same $10mil at $10 a month, the network requires 1 mil subscribers (plus, keeping all production and distribution in-house means that WWE won't have to split the revenue). The question remains how smoothly non-tech savvy WWE fans will make the transition, but unless the number of subscribers falls morbidly short of the projection, this will be a great thing for business and fans alike.

That is something I had been wondering about, so I'm glad someone did the math. I was wondering how this was going to be profitable for WWE if they are selling their PPVs for almost nothing. I mean, why would anyone pay $50-$60 for one PPV when they can buy 6 for that price? But it makes sense how they can stand to make even more with this subscription based model since they don't have to pay a portion of their buys to the cable providers. I still expect PPV buys to go down a bit, though. Maybe not a drastic amount at first, but I think we'll see a difference.

One million subscribers is certainly a lot of people, but I could honestly see the WWE breaking that number. I would consider myself to be a pretty casual WWE fan, and even I have been turned on to the WWE Network.

WWE filed a WWE Network-related document with the SEC on Thursday. In the filing, WWE management described their belief that the Network will "provide significant earnings potential" for shareholders.

Additional business/financial information released in the SEC filing:

- From the filing: "The launch of the network represents a key element of the Company’s 2013-2015 business plan, which was designed to achieve significant earnings growth. Management maintains its expectation that the planned network will contribute to potentially doubling or tripling the company’s 2012 OIBDA results of $63 million by 2015."

WWE believes they can achieve a "steady rate" of 2-3 million subscribers. Priced at $9.99, WWE says this would deliver additional revenue of $225-350 million and earnings of $50-150 at the steady rate.

To achieve this long-term "steady rate," WWE believes they will have 1-2 million subscribers by the end of 2014.

- The potential downside of the online-distributed Network is "potential pay-per-view cannibalization." WWE said PPVs will continue to be distributed through traditional means, but they run the risk of being bounced from certain providers.

"Although we will continue to offer our pay-per-view events to consumers on an ŕ la carte basis through current providers, there is risk that not all providers will continue to transmit our pay-per-view programming," WWE stated.

- WWE expects earnings to dip in 2014. "Although these initiatives hold significant potential, our financial performance for 2014 could fall within a wide range of outcomes depending on the rate of subscriber acquisition for the network, potential pay-per-view cannibalization, and the outcome of our content negotiations," said executive George Barrios.

WWE further explained that "the initial ramp in subscribers and revenue is not likely to be sufficient to offset both the foregone pay-per-view revenue and the incremental, direct expenses associated with a network launch." Costs identified include programming, marketing, customer service, and content delivery costs.

- Long-term, WWE believes they could double or triple the 2012 earnings of $63 million by the year 2015 if the Network catches on.

How many Youtube subscribers do they have? I think that'll be the best comparison since it's a similar medium. It is also free, so it's not the best comparison. I know I watch WWE videos but don't subscribe to them because they flood my subscription feed to the point that I can't see my other subscriptions.

The timing of this is brilliant on the WWE's part. Basically they launch the network. The next PPV will be WM which will cost like $50-$60 I think. Maybe more. Then people can look at the Network price and say "For what I will have to pay for WM, I can get 6 months of the network which includes WM and 5 more PPVs". Most people that can, will sign up for the network instead. I'm curious as to how they will report the PPV buys after this. That use to be the big measuring stick for WM and all PPVs. But, now it will become antiquated and unreliable...kind of like the Nielsen system currently is.
