Batista: Ready to Walk with WWE Again?

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Former WWE Superstar Dave Batista has been working to get back into wrestling shape, and is fast approaching his 290-pound billed weight during his last run with WWE. The former 6-time World Champion left WWE in 2010 to pursue his interests in acting, as well as a career in Mixed Martial Arts.

Batista has said in recent interviews that he is interested in returning to the WWE, and listed part-time workers such as The Rock and Brock Lesnar as potential opponents. With the future of the planned Rock/Lesnar match currently unknown, it is possible WWE would push to bring back Batista to fill the role of Dwayne Johnson, who was injured in his WrestleMania match with John Cena.

It is worth noting that Batista recently landed a part in Marvel's big comic book movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" which is set to begin filming this summer.

I was really hoping to see Batista return on Raw last week, since I thought he was from a fake youtube video I quickly scrolled down from after seeing it. So this is just awesome news. Batista is a big name they desperately need right now. So many great possibilities with the guy. First one that comes to mind is Batista vs Ryback, that could be cool.

Good, because the WHC needs a real champion to carry it.

Isn't he getting pretty old by now though? I'd say he's a temporary solution to the lack of star power at best, sadly.

I was never the biggest Batista fan, but for whatever reason, I have found myself missing him a lot lately. He was truly fantastic as a heel toward the end of his WWE run a few years back. With that said, looking at where the WWE product stands right now, I'd welcome Batista back with open arms.

He was always kind of old. I think he was already in his mid-30s or so when he debuted.

If he comes back, I fully expect the face Batista since WWE is hard up for credible main event faces. But that's a shame since douche Batista at the end was his best work.

STAY HYPED!!!
I thought he was already 40 when he started in WWE?

His age doesn't bother me. Even if he's in his mid 40s, he still has a solid 5-10 years left in him if he stays accident free. Undertaker is in his 50s and is delivering great matches each year at WM. Not that I'm saying that I'd expect Batista to only wrestle once a year, just that age isn't necessarily a detrimental factor (save your "Undertaker is always injured" comments).

According to Wikipedia, he was born in January 1969. Which means he's 44 this year. So he'd have been about 34 when he debuted.

The rumors appear to stem from a recent issue of The Wrestling Observer in which newsletter editor Dave Meltzer noted that Batista was back to his normal weight of around 280 lbs. Nowhere did Meltzer state that Batista was trying to get back into "in-ring shape," nor did it state that he was interested in a WWE return.
Batista, who turned 44 this past January, did note on Spike TV's MMA Uncensored last fall (which you can watch in the video above) that he was interested in returning to WWE eventually, and that the door was open for him to come back. He also said that he would be interested in working a program with Brock Lesnar, Triple H and The Undertaker.

If he were to return, it wouldn't be anytime soon. He will be heading to London to start filming Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in June. Batista will be playing Drax the Destroyer in the superhero flick, which is why he has been bulking up. Once he finishes filming the movie, he will make the media rounds to promote Riddick, which releases on September 6th.

I did think him returning would be a little bit of a head scratcher since he was very open about his dislike for the PG stuff and preference for the Attitude era kind of vibe.

But then again, I also realized possibly fading star power and a fat pay check might convince him to follow through.

This is just more evidence that rather than relying on older familiar faces all the time, it's time to take your "new" guys seriously wwe. ;)

Won't happen. Vince is the new Verne Gagne. Once viable, but now too old and out of touch with the times to put out quality product and create current stars.

It's unfortunate that "the door's open" for Batista. Even worse, he wants to work with other relics. Part of problem, not solution.

Batista is almost 50. Not to mention, he's having a heck of a big screen run right now. Not sure why he would want to return to WWE full-time at this point in his life, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him back.

His exact quote, if you need it.

Quote:

"I've never burnt that bridge because I still love wrestling and everybody in the WWE has been really good to me. I have my gripes with the company, which I'm sure everybody does, but at the same time I don't ever disrespect the company intentionally. I don't really have any reason to. I didn't leave there under bad circumstances, I left just because I wanted to pursue other things. I didn't walk out on them, I let my contract run out. They knew I was going to be leaving. I did business the right way. I'm really thankful that I did. The short answer to that is yes, I would love to go back, but the reason I have not gone back is because I don't want to do a one off. I want to go and I want to wrestle. I want to do some house shows, I want to be a part of the program and I love it. The one off thing, the cheap pop thing, it doesn't do anything for me.”

"So now it's a matter of scheduling if I can go back and if I happen to get injured is it going to affect something else? ... It took me a few months the last time I went back, it took me three months to really get in a groove and get people to react the way I thought they were going to react. I'm just not a cheap pop guy. It just doesn't work for me. It's not appealing to me at all, it actually turns me off."

"But I stay in touch, man, I've talked to Vince (McMahon) recently and he knows what I want. I've made it very clear that I wanted to go back and run a program with Hunter. I've been very public about it and I think that's the thing that would get me back."

I'm down. Ive never been a Batista hater. He's a big star. And him vs Brock. Or him putting over Braun would make for big Wrestlemania matches.
