Let's make an official ROH thread, shall we?

ROHWrestling.com

There has been a great deal of speculation regarding the future of the ROH World Title since Baltimore when Jay Briscoe was assaulted by S.C.U.M following his championship bout with Matt Hardy. There has also been rampant speculation about the future of Jay and Mark Briscoe as it pertains to ROH and their injuries suffered at the hands of Steve Corino's crew.

As we saw here in a video Jay Briscoe sent to ROHWrestling.com, the World Champion is obviously injured but also obviously upset at the speculation and rumors about his & Mark's future as well as the future of the World Title he fought so hard for the last eleven years to finally win.

Now, after anxiously waiting since Baltimore, we have received an official statement from ROH Match Maker Nigel McGuinness regarding the issues mentioned above:

To recap, for the very first time since Low Ki became the first champion, the World Title will be vacant BUT for the first time since the “Road To the Title/Crowning A Champion” events of 2002 there will be a tournament held to crown the new ROH World Champion!

Starting in Providence on July 27th and continuing in Toronto on August 3rd, NYC on August 17th, and culminating during “Death Before Dishonor XI” weekend in Philadelphia on September 20th & 21st, this tourney will feature 16 men battling it out for the right to hold the most prestigious wrestling championship in the world today!

The first man entered, as Nigel stated in his video, will be the top contender to the championship: “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin! Elgin had been patiently waiting for a title opportunity he earned back at “Supercard of Honor VII” when he defeated Jay Lethal but was one of many people sidetracked by the S.C.U.M situation. Now he finds himself the first man entered into the tournament that kicks off later this month and his 1st round match-up will go down in the city where he was originally scheduled to challenge for the World Title: Toronto on August 3rd!

Expect more competitors to be announced EVERY DAY until the field is complete so make sure you are checking out ROHWrestling.com each day, even over the holiday weekend!

The war with S.C.U.M has ended, the rebuilding phase has begun, and that post-war reconstruction can take a long time before there is a rebirth. With SCUM no longer around to serve as a distraction Ring of Honor can focus on rebuilding to what it is truly about. The road to purity has begun…

This tournament looks like it could be pretty great. I plan on being there live for the finals in Philly at Death Before Dishonor this September. Michael Elgin seems to be the favorite to win the strap.

At this time, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards are no longer under contract with Ring of Honor. They are expected to go to the WWE Performance Center sometime in September for an evaluation by WWE.

Probably the biggest ROH loss(es) since Danielson left the company after signing with WWE a few years back.

I'd like to see how well they do in NXT, if they make it that far.

I honestly don't see either guy being more successful in the WWE than, say, Antonio Cesaro. But they deserve a shot, at the very least.

AAA World Heavyweight Champion El Patrón Alberto (Alberto Del Rio) is scheduled work for a few dates for Ring of Honor starting in January, according to Dave Meltzer of f4wonline.com.

The former WWE Superstar has been keeping busy since getting his full release from the company, recently made a surprise appearance with Ricardo Rodriguez at House of Hardcore 7 (Video).

As we’ve been reporting, he’s rumored to be appearing at the next set of Lucha Underground tapings on January 17th.

I caught another taping the other night.

It looks as if TV Champ Jay Lethal and World Champ Jay Briscoe are starting a feud.

The cards for their shows with New Japan in May are god damn ridiculous. Night 1 of the shows in Canada is on iPPV and probably the best card.

Meltzer said in this week's Observer that Roddy's match with Tanahashi is somewhat of a tryout for Roddy to be in the G1 this year. I assume the Shinsuke match is the same. Hopefully they go well and we get to see Roddy in New Japan this year.

According to PWInsider, Ring Of Honor will air tonight on the New England Sports Network. While it may not be picked up by all of NESN's affiliates, this week's episode of ROH TV will air at midnight eastern. The episode featured the ROH in-ring return of Chris Sabin, as well as Alberto El Patron in action.

Ring of Honor has yet to make an official announcement about the airing yet, so tonight's episode may not be considered the "official debut" by the company. New England Sports Network has operated since March 1984, and is available on both DirecTV and Dish Network.

ROH TV is currently in syndication by Sinclair Broadcast Group, the company that owns ROH. They acquired Ring of Honor in May 2011, and used the promotion to air weekly programming on the group's stations, with the intent to syndicate later on non-Sinclair station.

Ring of Honor formerly ran a show on HDNet, which later became AXS TV. ROH is also still active on PPV and iPPV.
Good news for me and other ROH fans living in New England.

It's not good news for us Boston/New England brothers unfortunately because it's only airing on the national version of NESN that no one actually watches. Hopefully that means they can eventually work out a deal with the regional New England version of NESN.

What is a week-long event? The joint shows between ROH and NJPW were this past Tuesday and Wednesday, FYI.

Live iPPV tonight. Card looks awesome. The two shows from Philly earlier this week will be available on VOD as soon as possible according to ROH. The Strong/Tanahashi match from night two is supposedly incredible. The second night in Canada is a television taping.

According to the Observer ROH will begin airing on the regional version of NESN on Sundays at 8 PM starting on June 7th. It's unclear when or if the show will air when there are conflicts with Red Sox/Bruins games. (EDIT: Red Sox games wouldn't air on NESN then so potential conflicts are probably very small)

Hopefully the show does well and Boston/New England becomes a market that ROH is interested in running again. There are huge challenges to running shows anywhere near Boston proper so it will be difficult, but it's crazy that such a great wrestling market has been largely ignored by independent wrestling.

The same show that airs on Destination America will also air on NESN then?

Maybe you're just not aware, but there is a pretty thriving independent scene in the Boston area at the moment. There's MWF, which John Cena's father runs, Chaotic Wrestling, NECW, and even Beyond Wrestling out of Providence. CHIKARA typically runs Boston once or twice a year, too.

ROH is just producing one show for Destination America, NESN and their local markets. It will air on Sunday nights on NESN regional before it airs on Destination America nationally on Wednesday.

If it doesn't happen in Boston proper with reasonable public transportation access then it doesn't actually happen.

That doesn't make any sense, but OK. I feel pretty confident in saying that something like 95% of independent wrestling fans drive out to shows. I can only imagine that the city of Boston is probably way too expensive to run in. ROH got lucky with BU years ago.

Yeah that is unfortunately the problem. It's incredibly expensive to run and reliable buildings are hard to find. I'm mostly being facetious about it but more convenience would be cool.

Meltzer said the idea with getting on NESN is to get back to running shows in the Boston market on Observer radio today so hopefully we will know when and where soon.

If Bellator 138 wasn't on TV tonight for free, I'd probably all about watching the ROH PPV all the way through. Here's hoping Jay Lethal beats Jay Briscoe for the ROH Title.

Jay Lethal has to be winning the World Title tonight, right? Why would the World Champion win a secondary title? He'd just have to vacate the secondary title. Instead, the TV Champion is going to win the World Title. The TV Title will still be vacated but at the expense of of a better Championship.
