I'd rather have a Justice League movie. Hopefully this is their way of testing the waters first. I mainly want a Justice League movie because it feels like most DC movies are after thoughts and that DC is pretty much just Superman and Batman, with everyone else being supporting characters. Meanwhile, Marvel really feels like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, etc are all on pretty equal footing - or there are more people on the tiers of popularity rather than two guys and then everyone else. TL;DR: I'm not particularly interested in another live action Superman or Batman movie unless more heroes are involved. |

A Worlds Finest style movie would most likely be a precursor to a JLA movie. And it would be huge at the box office. Can't blame WB for putting their 2 top heroes in the same movie. |

It's fine if they do it, I just want it to mean something more than Batman and Superman in a movie together. So if it is indeed to set up a Justice League movie, then I'm more interested in it. Although if it allows the world to skip Batman's origin story, then even if it is just a Batman and Superman movie with no future Justice League ties, I'll still be for it just based on principle. I'm so tired of origin stories, especially of the main three comic heroes (Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man). |

I sort of agree, The Amazing Spider-Man and Man Of Steel are prime examples of why they need to stop with origins stories and tell it through flashbacks. MOS sort of did that, but not correctly imo. There's a reason the second movie of a trilogy is usually the best. Though if it's a completely new superhero getting time on the big screen (and not a reboot), they would be in need of a good origin story. And let's not forget that the movie studios are trying to make the stories and knowledge assessable to everyone But nothing could ever top Batman Begins in terms of origins imo. |

Batman would naturally be the "villain". He would be completely untrusting of Supes, especially after nearly wiping Metropolis off the map. This is why we need some form of kryponite in the next movie, Supes would be hesitant in taking on Batman (or not taking some guy in a bat costume seriously), But Batman wouldn't waste a second pulling out some of the green stuff and put Superman on his back. |

So they have to cast a new Batman, right? Is the world really ready to accept a new Batman after the success of Christian Bale? |

People were doubtful about a new Batman after Michael Keaton, but Val Kilmer did okay and Christian Bale did phenomenal. Same with the Joker and Jack Nicholson/Heath Ledger. A lot of people thought there was no way Heath would top Jack's performance back in like 2007. Now? He's probably considered the best version of the character ever by the mainstream world (possibly tied with the Mark Hamill animated one by the more... interested fans). The Batman character is probably one of the easiest to recast just because he doesn't have a lot of personality in a lot of ways. Like, if Downey was to decided to never play Iron Man again, they'd have a hard time replacing him because his personality makes Iron Man who he is on the screen. Batman? Each actor kind of has their own take on him, but he's not as colorful as an Iron Man or Spider-Man type, so he's probably easier to replace. I think the thing people might have the hardest thing swallowing is how going forward they have to put The Dark Knight trilogy out of their head in terms of that style and that being Batman for the last decade. But that was the same challenge the trilogy had coming off of the 90s Batman movies and it definitely succeeded. And the awful memories of Batman & Robin were still fairly fresh in people's minds at that time. That was probably a bigger challenge to overcome than just getting people to accept a new person as Batman.

There was an 8 year gap between the not-so-highly-liked Batman and Robin movie and Christian Bale's reboot Batman Begins. That's a long amount of time and makes it easier to transition between lead actors. But Dark Knight Rises just came out last year. So there is only going to be about a 2 or 3 year gap between new Batman actors now. And Bale was very popular as Batman, possibly the most loved Batman in the franchise. I could be completely wrong, but I can't help but think there is going to be some sort of backlash when a new Batman shows up. They'll need to cast a really notable name to make the transition smoother. I don't think this will be a career making role for a new talent. |

Eh... I don't think it'll be too rough, as long as they don't fuck up the film. If the movie is good enough, most people will be able to move on and accept the new guy. It's happened with Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire was Spider-Man throughout the 00s. Other than than the... "emo" Peter Parker stuff in 3, he was a pretty damn well liked Spider-Man in general. Four years after the last film in the trilogy, Andrew Garfield has taken over and it's been a pretty smooth transition. The film may have had some mixed feelings, but I haven't heard a lot of bad about Garfield's portrayal of Spider-Man. I've actually mostly heard the opposite (praise). I would expect that, as long as the movie is good and they cast correctly, the transition into the next Batman actor will be just fine. Especially since I'd argue that the villains of the last two movies (Joker and Bane) got more attention and stood out more in general than Bale's portrayal of Batman ever did. The next guy to play the Joker on film, for example, will have the real challenge. Yes, Bale has been a beloved Batman, but back in the day, so was Keaton. After two huge films, though, he was replaced by Val Kilmer just three or four years after Batman Returns. And it went okay. The film in general was... mixed in reviews, but I've never heard Kilmer get trashed for his role as Batman unlike say George Clooney. Personally? Kilmer was probably my favorite Batman, even. And I don't think a big name is necessary for the next guy to play Batman. With these superhero movies, if you use too big of a name, you risk having the name ending up bigger than the character. I think that's why most of these superhero movies tend to use guys who are either unknowns or somewhere in the middle range. Robert Downey, Jr has been one of the rare exceptions since this new era of comic movies started in the late 90s with Blade (with Wesley Snipes being another exception). Guys that are huge stars now, like Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman, weren't huge stars when they started out in their now iconic roles. They become huge stars after. I think it would probably be better to find a guy that can definitely act and fits the bill, but is also maybe a guy that most people don't know about. Or if they do, he's one of those "I know that guy from somewhere..." types. Edited by Kraul, Jul 25 2013, 06:33 AM.

You have a very good point here. Personally, I prefer Toby as Spider Man, but liked the rest of the cast in Amazing Spiderman more. But the transition was pretty much flawless. Maybe the new Batman can be just as flawless. |

I think Andrew Garfield is probably the best Spider-Man/Peter Parker yet, movies or shows. He looks the way Spidey should, acts the way Spidey should, and moves the way Spider-Man has always supposed to move. While I do like Bale's version of Batman, as I think I said earlier, he's not my favorite version. In the films, my favorite is Val Kilmer. But I think the movies have yet to really accurately capture Batman himself in the same way Garfield/Amazing Spider-Man captured the Spider-Man character. I will say that Bale did a phenomenal job as Bruce Wayne, though. He's probably my favorite Wayne since it's actually a really good cover, while all the others tend to be very similar to their portrayal of Batman - which is bad. In other words, I think the perfect Batman actor is still out there somewhere... |

Joking. I just figured since he's cast as everything else, why not Batman? ![]() Then again... he could probably actually play a pretty decent Batman. Not believing Wayne and Batman are the same person would be a tough sell, though. ![]() I'm not familiar enough with the budding star scene to cast these things. But I know that's usually where the best picks are. The people that have all the tools but just need that one chance to really break out big into the A-List. It's basically where Bale was before Batman Begins, even though he was more notable than the guys playing Superman have been. |

Here are the names I have seen suggested by writers of random articles: Josh Holloway Matt Bomer Anson Mount Luke Evans Richard Armitage Ryan Gosling The two most interesting to me of those listed are Anson Mount and Richard Armitage. Lots of names being thrown about, but it will be interesting to see where we land. Edited by Purple Marauder, Jul 27 2013, 11:50 PM.
