But the real insight is the kind of Bruce Wayne/Batman that Snyder is looking to cast. According to numerous sources, this Wayne/Batman will be in the late 30s or around the 40 mark. He will be established and rugged. This new movie will not seek to recount an origin story or the rise of the Dark Knight. Christian Bale, The Dark Knight trilogy Batman, has said he won't return for another film.

Sources say the new movie is aiming for the tone of the relationship and fight seen in Frank Miller’s 1980s ground-breaking mini-series The Dark Knight Returns (How important is that work? Important enough that the cover to issue No. 2 sold Friday at a Heritage Auction for $478,000.)
You know, the only thing with this concept is that you establish the New Batan as an older guy in the DC Movie Universe. If (and a big if as always) they want to set up a JLA movies with these films, you would think they would want to cast a somewhat younger actor to play Batman to make a few JLA films in the franchise and not worrying about Batman breaking his hip during the trilogy or whatever.

I'm fine and happy with an older Batman. Not only because a 40-something year old Batman is what I've always expected when I think of him but also because he could add a little variety to the cast being the visually oldest one there. It could give him even more authority with him basically being the most/experienced senior human on the team.

And I'm thrilled that we don't have to sit through another origin story.

I'm going to go on record and say that I didn't think Daredevil was that bad of a movie. Mediocre? Yeah, but not awful like people tend to say. Also, I can very much picture Affleck as Bruce Wayne. He can definitely pull off the cocky millionaire.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I'll be fine with Affleck as Batman as long as he gets to direct Justice League and upcoming Batman films.

Oh, shit. I didn't even think about how he played George Reeves. Will this mean he'll be the first person to ever play Batman and "Superman"?

Cosmic Book News is reporting that Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston has signed on to play Lex Luthor in the Man of Steel sequel. His deal to appear in the sequel is not just for one film, it is closer to what many of the Marvel actors have signed on for.

"Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six 'appearance' deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten".

The very same site is reporting that Ben Affleck may have signed a 13 picture deal for Batman.

They believe that an official casting notice will arrive after the conclusion of Breaking Bad.

Cosmic Book News seems to have the inside track on the Man of Steel sequel Superman Vs Batman. Yesterday the site reported that Bryan Cranston will play Lex Luthor (read it here), with an announcement to follow after the Breaking Bad series finale. Now the site is reporting that director Zach Snyder is courting Timothy Dalton to play Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's butler.

"Now our DC Entertainment source has provided us with information that Zack Snyder is eyeing Timothy Dalton for the role of Alfred".

"We are told it is by no means official, but Snyder, and to an extent David Goyer, have ideas for the major supporting cast members already".

Could Wonder Woman be in Batman vs. Superman? Variety is reporting "that 'Fast and Furious' actress Gal Gadot, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' thesp Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion) have or will test for the female lead, which appears to be the role of Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman. Sources stress there's still a possibility this role could be Bruce Wayne's love interest, but the casting description of 'tall, brunette, athletic and exotic' also matches that of the Wonder Woman character in the comics".

The other rumor that has been circulating that a fourth actress has auditioned for the role. The speculation is that this actress is Thor: The Dark World's Jamie Alexander (Sif).

However, wouldn't she have commitment or contract issues in playing a DC Comics character? That might be in the fine print or perhaps not. Let us remember that Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool (and probably is still going to be) as well as the Green Lantern.

If this is for Wonder Woman, I'd rather see Jamie Alexander in the role of these 4.

I think she just has to have dark hair and be beautiful...which only one of those ladies is. WW is suppose to be an Amazon Princess and one of the most beautiful women on the planet. She can't just be some random actress.

Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman in the untitled “Batman vs. Superman” movie.

Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck are set to star with Zack Snyder directing.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,” Snyder said.

Variety first reported that Gadot, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” thesp Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko had tested for the part that was believed to be Wonder Woman.

The Wonder Woman rumor has been kicking around for some time, and insiders believe the plan is to have not just Batman and Superman in the film but several members of the Justice League as well. It’s unclear which members, but Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) and the Flash are said to be locks to make an appearance in some fashion, whether that’s a significant role or a cameo.

Warners will also look to now cast the villain with “Zero Dark Thirty” and “300: Rise of the Empire” star Callan Mulvey someone Warner Bros. is eyeing to play the role.

Pic will bow July 17, 2015. Gadot was last seen in “The Fast and Furious 6″ and is repped by ICM Partners.

Fresh off working with Warner Bros. on Her, it seems Joaquin Phoenix is being eyed by the studio for the villain role in Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs. Superman. Variety reports the actors has been offered the lead bad guy rule, believed to be Lex Luthor.

Update: Phoenix is quoted in a new LA Weekly story, expressing his desire to do a blockbuster. Read below.

According to Variety, Phoenix has been offered the role but has yet to accept. He’s never been one to do big studio blockbusters and also is reportedly up for a new Gus Van Sant film, Sea of Trees, which seems much more in his wheelhouse. So that puts some big question marks around the possibility of him playing the role. It would be a surprise if he takes the villain job.

What offering the role to Phoenix does, though, is confirm that other actors up for the film, like Jason Momoa, are not in line for the main bad guy role. Phoenix is a whole different breed of actor and his character would obviously be something more prominent, sinister and cerebral. And after the teases in Man of Steel, Luthor is by far the best option.

We’ll obviously have much more on this as it develops, but what do you think about Phoenix potentially doing battle with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill?

Update: After this news broke, many people dismissed it because Phoenix has never exhibited a desire to do blockbuster films. That may have changed, however.

In a new profile by LA Weekly, Phoenix admits he’d do a blockbuster one day. “I love comedies and I love action movies,” he said. In particular, he called the new Star Trek films “fucking brilliant.” Here he elaborates:

As long as you’re not visibly shaking in front of a camera, anyone could give a great performance with the right script and the right director…..It’s even more difficult to stand with a half-made, fake-ass fucking set with some weird fucking wig and say a bunch of technical dialogue and not have the benefit of people going, ‘Well, this is important work so let’s give it its space.’ Everyone’s going, ‘C’mon, jerk-off! Let’s do this!’

While that’s not him saying, “Yes, I want to be in Batman vs. Superman,” it’s an acknowledgement he’s open to, and even interested in that kind of work.
