Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald is reporting via his Twitter page that WWE announcer Josh Mathews has been released by the company. As of this posting, neither WWE nor Mathews have commented, though Mathews is now listed under the "Alumni" section of the WWE website.

It is possible that this isn't true since WWE hasn't commented yet. But assuming it is true, WWE released the wrong person on their WWE Network pre and post shows. Alex Riley is the one that sucks horribly. Josh Matthews is competent in his role.

Mathews is definitely done with WWE. He is reportedly backstage at the TNA shows tonight in New York, but he obviously won't be making an on-screen appearance due to WWE's no-compete clause.

While I agree about Matthews, I don't think A-Ry is bad at all. He's not the second coming, but he's an eloquent enough speaker.

I'm of the theory that the WWE is afraid of losing Renee Young (reports are that ESPN has been courting her) and they decided to give her more airtime and an important role as Josh's replacement.

Renee Young is awesome. I wouldn't want to lose her either. I'd say scram Josh! If it meant keeping Renee.

Renee is ok, but I wouldn't miss her if she were gone. I'd like the ring announcer for NXT to get a bigger role in the company though. :tu:

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Ricardo Rodriguez as of today, July 30, 2014. WWE wishes Ricardo Rodriguez the best in all of his future endeavors.
They should have never let him stop managing Del Rio.

I've been seeing him at the Spanish announcer's table for the last few months. I wonder why that didn't work out for him.

I'm not sure how his performance has been on there, but I bet it's just a matter of excessiveness. You know, trimming the fat.

WWE announced the release of Alberto Del Rio due to unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.

Del Rio did seem like a bit of an ass.

Albert Del Rio's release is the top story on the front page of WWE's website right now. Usually when WWE announces talent departures they use their real name but Del Rio's real name was not used in today's announcement. (Though his real first name IS Alberto)

If Del Rio really is gone from the company, his last match would have been a loss to Jack Swagger on this week's Main Event. He did not work the SmackDown taping and did not work today's live event in Melbourne, Australia.

Del Rio's contract is expiring soon, according to NoDQ.

Ah so it's all a work. Very good then. Very good. :)

Del Rio was one of my favorites, so I'm pretty bummed out to hear this news. I hope he wrestles for NJPW, or at least for a company that I actually care about. At 37-years old, though, I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to hang up his boots. :(

Why isn't Cybrus celebrating his release yet?

Wonder who did Del Rio pissed off, though.

Note the missing "We wish Alberto the best in all his future endeavours." This is very odd to me.

Maybe someone at the website forgot to type his surname.

Btw, I also read somewhere at another forum that TNA and AAA are contacting him to see if the release is real.

You are now realizing that with Del Rio's release, El Torito is currently WWE's hottest mexican superstar.

I would say Rey, but he hasn't wrestled in a while.

Isn't Rey trying to get out of his contract? I heard that he even refuses to cash in his latest checks.

WWE's Twitter account addressed Alberto Del Rio's firing on Friday: "@VivaDelRio is responsible for his own actions. If you're angry at anyone, be angry at Alberto. There's no excuse for a pro athlete not to conduct themselves in a professional manner."

Powell's POV: This is a bizarre move by WWE that makes me wonder if Del Rio is still with the company or if someone went into business for themselves. It's not like the company to issue a statement in this manner let alone plug the Twitter address of a fired wrestler.

I really hope this is a work. Would be very advanced thinking of them if it were.

While I do agree that it was wrong for Del Rio to physically attack a co-worker -- especially one that is obviously weaker and less conditioned than him -- I do think it is very messed up that he'd be fired for reacting to a comment that could be considered racist. Considering how PG WWE is and how badly the shareholders have been reacting to the company this entire year, I would have expected WWE to take a lighter approach. Or, at the very least, fire both parties involved. It just seem strange that they'd fire the guy that reacted and not the guy that made the comment.

Of course, this is hearsay. There is always a possibility that someone is just saying it was a racist comment to make things look worse. Not to bring racism into the discussion, but since it kind of already is...as a white guy living in America, I know how incredibly easy it is to be labeled a racist. We don't even have to actually say or do anything racist. People believe it usually just from the accusation. Not everybody, but too many.

If ADR slapped the social media guy because he was making racist comments towards him, as numerous sites are reporting, then I respect Del Rio even more than I used to (this is coming from a huge fan of his). Fuckin' WWE!

A larger, muscled, and professionally trained athlete physically attacked a smaller, weaker, untrained person because the smaller person said words...and you respect him more? The proper and respectful thing would have been to discuss the issue with management. The guy should be reprimanded, if he was racist against Del Rio, but not physically attacked.
