A simple question: why are you a pro wrestling fan? What is it about this form of entertainment that not only caught your attention but has kept you a fan? And if you're no longer a fan, or are in a down period, what it is that kept you around for so long? |

STAY HYPED!!!

I am drawn into the stories that are told. There are multiple ways to tell a story. It can be done by promo work. It can be done through video content. It can be done through a match. It's a combination of all this, though, that usually leads to the best stories. And it doesn't matter if it is the main event or divas or someone tucked away in NXT. A good, strong story is entertaining no matter who is telling it. If it makes you feel something, if it draws you in and makes you emotionally invested, if it makes you care about what happens next...that's a good story. I think that's the problem with a lot of today's product. During the Attitude Era (I know, WWE over plays the content, but work with me), literally every division had storytelling. You could turn on Raw or Nitro at any point and you'd see a strong and compelling story being told. Divas, tag teams, mid card, main event. It was a solid show from start to finish. But today, almost every single show and every single PPV is sold based off one or two stories. You have your main storyline going on and if you don't like that one story, then you're pretty much out of luck because the storytelling drops off considerably after that. |

Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through

I literally grew up in a house where, every Saturday morning, wrestling was on TV. I watched the Memphis promotion as a kid and teenager. Say what you will about the territories, Memphis had one of the best promotions around. They always had compelling stories and wild action. Paul Heyman gives his time in Memphis credit for learning how to be a booker and tell stories. Each week it was wild and fun. Then I started watching NWA/WCW and WWF. I was always more of a NWA fan that WWF. I hated the cartoon aspect of the WWF. I liked the more realistic style of NWA/WCW. Eventually, I just watched any wrestling I could find...GWF, ICCW, WCCW, AWA ECW etc. Anything... After the years passed and WWE took over the Industry, slowly, the product went down hill for me. There were always guys I liked. Always guys I was a big fan of and they kept me tuning in week after week. But, within the last year, I have all but stopped watching. When I still had Direct TV, I would record wrestling WWE & TNA, and fast Forward through most of the shows. Stopping when I saw someone I liked or when something looked interesting. Now, I don't have Direct TV and only watch on YouTube if I hear about something that sounds interesting. That for me is basically Sting, Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar. Occasionally someone like Bray Wyatt will do something I want to see, but for the most part, week in and out, wrestling is skipable for me. That makes me sad. |

Watching someone get hit in the head with a chair or watching a tombstone piledriver or what have you is inherently cool. Usually the WWE presents strong characters who I can identify with, and root for in the case of some, and who I can boo mercilessly in the case of others. The WWE also puts those characters in situations where I usually want to see the outcome. It's a good product. |
