I'm told Spike TV had preliminary talks with Ring of Honor about monthly specials. Details on those talks http://mf.tt/wjmVL
I am not a WNW Premium Member, but if true, this news is awesome and a huge step forward for Ring of Honor.

Spike being open to carrying wrestling is very good for the business. Hopefully this works out. I'm not sure what Sinclair Broadcasting is willing to let ROH do.

When does ROH's contract with Sinclair expire? If this is true, it's quite interesting that SpikeTV is interesting in carrying wrestling, but just wasn't interested in carrying TNA.

Sinclair owns ROH so they aren't under contract. I wonder if Spike would be willing to carry ROH as a weekly episodic show. Even if they were Sinclair likely wouldn't allow it. This structure of monthly specials seems like it would be best for everyone involved. Spike gets to carry event programming while ROH and Sinclair get exposure on a national network. Really hope this works out.

They said monthly specials. I have a feeling they aren't looking for weekly wrestling unless is was from Vince. They would do weekly if ratings were huge but I think TNA made them learn that any wrestling not named WWE is limited in what it will bring to your network.

Yeah. I'm just wondering what Spike's appetite for wrestling is and whether Sinclair is actually willing to let ROH grow outside of their networks.

Meltzer wrote this in the Observer a couple weeks ago:

Quote:

There are a lot of financial issues with the company which basically involve Sinclair not getting more behind it. Joe Koff met with the head guys at Sinclair in December, and pitched them hard to expand the budget in 2015 and 2016, pushing that they could become the No. 2 wrestling company in the country. The Briscoes and Adam Cole were also brought to the meeting and did pro wrestling promos pitching that they could become the No. 2 promotion in the country with TNA losing steam with its move to Destination America. Unfortunately, the pitch failed. It also hurt that the second PPV in December only did 8,000 buys, which was said to be under projections but not greatly under projections. Sinclair told them to be more disciplined in spending in 2015 and the feeling is they want ROH for consistent programming but are not looking at investing strongly into it nor taking chances to build it. That’s what led to questions about future iPPVs because the cost of refunds have been high due to misfires, and cutting back on the New Japan joint shows as far less wrestlers at this point are scheduled to be brought in.

It seems like Sinclair wants them to be a small wrestling company that provides them regular programming without costing too much money. That's not a bad strategy at all, but limits how much they can grow. This will provide ROH with some opportunity for growth while still giving Sinclair what they want.

They want RoH to prove they are worth investing in by bringing in consistent ratings and sell the PPV's they are saying they can. If you promise 9000 buys and only sell 8000, then you are showing the company you can't even be a successful small time company. Why would the sink large amounts of money into a company that isn't a consistent product?

Over the past few days, there's been an online rumor making the rounds that Ring of Honor is in negotiations with SpikeTV to bring a weekly ROH series to the network, which formerly hosted TNA Impact Wrestling.

In speaking to several people today, I can confirm there is absolutely nothing to the story and there are no current negotiations, nor have their been previous negotiations between the two sides.

So, as they say, nothing to see here.
Wrestling news sites suck.

That's what happens when most of them are like TMZ and butcher reports and take things out of context from the more reputable sites.

I've been tempted to pay for a membership for one of those more reputable sites just to avoid the click bait BS wrestling news sites that tends to thrive on that kind of misinformative reporting.

I paid for a subscription for one month over at ProWrestling.net, but found it wasn't really worth it. The really important news gets posted to the open public anyway. Those page views generates serious income. The trick is to find a site that offers reliable news on a consistent basis.

And, also, rumors are very fun to read and consider as long as they are listed as such.

I subscribe to the Observer to support Meltzer and Bryan for all of the hard work they do. But to be honest it's probably not really worth it. It costs more than my WWE Network and NJPW World subs. The Observer is great each week and Bryan does a ton of audio shows. If it was like half of the current price I would recommend it.

Almost everything in the Observer gets posted somewhere and the audio isn't difficult to find if you're willing to pirate.
