According to Mike Coughlin of F4WOnline, the son of Mexican wrestling legend Perro Aguayo went limp while on the ropes in position to take Mysterio's 619 finishing maneuver. It is unclear what caused the incident, but the 35-year-old star was treated by medical personnel before being transported to a hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

Following news of El Hijo del Perro Aguayo's untimely death, many involved with the wrestling business expressed their condolences on Twitter, including the famed Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine:

Very scary to see this happen. I tried linking the video on the forum at around when the accident occurs but it doesn't seem to be working.

RIP El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo.

This is so fucking sad. I don't know what Aguayo had been up to lately, but when I was keeping up with lucha, he was one of the biggest names in all of Mexico. :(

It's insanely scary how easily someone can die in a wrestling match. We see these guys every week and they wrestle house shows, easily working 200 or 300 matches per year. One wrong move, even by people that have been doing it for years, and something terribly bad can happen. This is horrible news. :(

I don't think an official cause of death has been released, just speculation at this point.

RIP Perro

Cause of death from The Observer:

Quote:

Sources who were at Hospital del Prado in Tijuana have said that the initial cause of death was cervical spine trauma coming from when the ropes snapped his neck.

Video is disturbing, but it's difficult to fault anyone for what happened. Medical personnel were unfortunately unable to respond immediately because there were two other fairly significant injuries during the show. I doubt much could have been done anyway. Just an awful freak accident.

what's an "initial" cause of death???

I believe the way the terminology works is that the "initial" cause of death is basically a guess based on the surrounding circumstances. It's when they look at the evidence surrounding the body and say "we think this is what killed them". Then they do an autopsy and actually look for a cause of death and release an official cause of death. I think everyone involved would always be better off if the "initial" cause of death was just excluded and they waited until they actually found the cause of death before commenting at all.

I agree with that.

Also, did the show go on after the wrestler lost consciousness? I know the match continued. But was that the last match of the evening?

Pretty sure that match was the main event, yeah.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
Considering it was Rey Mysterio's first post-WWE match, I guess it definitely had to be the main event.

I read that Rey is receiving death threats for this.

Seems like he just took a bad bump. Rey dropkicked him to set up the 619. He landed on his throat instead of his arms. Basically he internally decapitated himself, from what I've read. He broke his own neck

That's such a harsh way of saying that. It was a botched move. Sort of like D-Lo Brown and DraZ.

According to Rey Bucanero (CMLL) he talked with Rey Mysterio and said Rey's leaning towards retirement after this terrible incident.

That's really sad. If Rey does decide to retire, I hope he has the proper send-off that he deserves.

I can't even begin to try to understand what this is doing to Rey's mental health. I think everyone knows it wasn't Rey's fault. But when a person dies in one of your matches shortly after taking a move from you...it would eat me alive.

Yeah, seriously. I can't imagine what he's going through right now. The guilt would tear me apart, eat me alive, and demolish my mental health.

Despite reports to the contrary all over the Internet today, Rey Mysterio made it clear tonight at the WaleMania event that he has no plans to retire.
