STAY HYPED!!!
Let me preface this by saying that I listen to a variety of genres. I listen to country, rock, pop, adult contemporary, 80s, 90s, and variety of other genres. Hell, I even have an ambient noise station on my Pandora just for when I want to hear something but not anything specific. I still wish I could find a station that just played the sounds of thunderstorms and rains, but I've had no such luck. But that is off topic a bit.

So I am riding home from work and I have it on the local rock station. At this time of morning, there is very little in the way of music on the radio and mostly just the morning talk shows. On this morning show, on a rock station, they decided to play a country song with an edit to make it funny. The song they played was "Waiting on a Woman" by Brad Paisley. I like the song. I think it tells a good story and that the video is fantastic with Andy Griffith. But at the same time I understand the song and genre isn't for everyone, especially not on a rock station. But they weren't really making fun of the song as you would think. They weren't just playing the song and saying how much they hated it. That'd be a waste of time. No, they edited it to make it sound like it had a much different meaning than it did. It was the "unnecessary censorship" song of the week. So they edited the line "waiting on a woman" to "bleep-ing on a woman". Kind of funny.

They played maybe half of the song, enough to get the joke across, and turned it off. One of the guys on the show likes that song (he picked it for this week's "Unnecessary Censorship"). He commented that the censored version was funny, but the he liked the original a lot better and just a lot in general. His co-host kind of went on a rant about the song. He said it was terrible, horrible, and he doesn't understand how anyone could get any enjoyment from the song at all. The two kind of butted heads with the one guy defending it and the other talking it down.

That segment ended and they changed topics. But then they had to return to the topic because someone had messaged them on facebook that it was wrong for the one guy to talk down on the song and country on a rock station (which it is). The guy went on defense saying they make fun of everything. He tried saying "you didn't email me when I made fun of (whatever) last week, but because this is something you like you got upset this week". And his level headed co-host pointed out that the person wasn't upset about the edited song version, but about the personal opinion and rants against the song and genre that followed. He pointed out that they are a rock station and naturally may not be fans of other genres, even though he personally is a fan of country as well.

So the guy that dislikes country music tries to tell a story about how he personally doesn't like country but is a good spirited guy and will generally go along with whatever the room wants. He cites registering his kids for school as an example. It was him and his 2 kids. One song in particular came on the radio that he did not understand. It is a country song, by a country artist but is played on pop and mainstream stations since it is a cross over. The song is "Girl Crush" by Little Big Town. He said he was zoned out for most of it but when he started paying attention he immediately wanted to turn it. His daughter said "Dad, are you even listening to the song" and he goes "Yeah, that's why I think we need to change it". He said he isn't against homosexuality or anything, but he isn't sure songs with such blatant overtones should be played on the radio.

So the guy that does like country looked up the song and played a bit on the radio. And he says "are you sure you understand what this song is about?". And the guy that doesn't understand kind of sticks to his guns and says "Look, I'm not against it. Do what you want to do, but should that be on the radio? Should we be hearing about one girl having another crush on another girl? Wanting to taste her lips? Wanting to smell like her?"

That's not what the song is about at all. It's not a song about one girl having a crush on another girl. The song "Girl Crush" is about a woman that is so in love with a guy that she is insanely jealous of the woman the man is with. She wants to look like that woman, wants to smell like that woman all so that she may have a chance with the man. She would even go as far as to kiss that woman just to taste the man on her lips. That is what the song is about. And when the one country fan DJ pointed it out...the other guy was kind of dumbstruck for a moment.

So, yeah, I have no idea where I am going with this. But, man, if you admittedly don't like a genre of music just shut the fuck up about any song within the genre. If you don't understand the song, don't criticize the song. Simple, right?

Stand Back! There's a Hurricane Coming Through
I get everything you are saying, but you have to remember one thing. These guys are putting on a radio show. If their show is partly to get the listener involved, then it will always make sense to come up with a topic and each guy take one side of the argument. They argue and then ask the listener, "So what do you guys think? Do you agree with me or with Bob?" Half the audience will agree with him, half with Bob. It generates a discussion or argument or whatever for the rest of their show. During that time, I'm sure each DJ has real thoughts on the subject and that will make the show better. But, getting people riled up is part of the point. And, it worked. Look at you. You are posting about it on a wrestling message board. I say they did a great job this morning.

I don't disagree with your point and I understand what you're saying. My rant isn't that they shouldn't get viewers talking, that's what they should do. My rant is that it looks lower class to mock another genre when you radio station caters to one specific genre. It would be like WWE trying to openly mock NFL just because NFL is starting soon and they want people talking about them. Yeah, it'd probably work. But it's low class.
