LONDON — At an historic press conference at the O2 Arena in London, Triple H revealed that WWE’s first-ever United Kingdom Champion will be crowned this January.

The WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament is a 16-competitor, two-day throwdown at Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom, airing live and exclusively on the award-winning WWE Network, featuring some of the best talent the U.K. has to offer. The last man standing at the end of the tournament will be crowned champion and awarded a title, which was also revealed at the conference.

Joining Triple H in London were former WWE Universal Champion Finn Bálor, General Manager of NXT William Regal and British wrestling icon Nigel McGuinness, who will be calling the tournament action on WWE Network alongside the voice of Monday Night Raw, Michael Cole. The WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament competitors also took the stage.

As much as I don't like that there have been so many new titles introduced as of late, I'm excited to watch this. Nigel McGuinness being involved is excellent. I expect Pete Dunne to win the entire tournament. He's a great, young talent with a hell of a future ahead of him.

Though the field had seemingly been set, Thursday morning saw an addition to WWE's United Kingdom Championship tournament lineup.

WWE announced that Mark Andrews would compete in the upcoming 16-participant tournament. Andrews is likely best known to fans in the United States for his time in TNA, where he wrestled for the past few years in the company's X Division as Mandrews.

A native of Wales, Andrews has become one of the many bright stars that the UK scene has produced during its recent revival. He has also wrestled stateside for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla the past two years, featuring in both the 2015 and 2016 Battle of Los Angeles tournaments. When in the UK, he's a regular of popular promotion PROGRESS Wrestling.

The WWE UK Championship tournament is set to take place at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool over two days later this month. It will kick off on January 14th before crowning the inaugural champion on the 15th. Triple H has expressed optimism that the shows could lead to a weekly series from the UK on the Network.

Nigel McGuinness will make his WWE debut on commentary over those two days as he joins Michael Cole in the broadcast booth.
Hell yeah.

Welcome back, European Championship.

WWE is beginning their world wide incursion.

Though it would be interesting to see them attempt a Japanese territory.

The belt looks 100x better than any of the other belts WWE has revealed in the past 6 months. Although I'm a little confused as to how the belts going to work. Is it just another belt to be defended on TV, similar to the European title? Also which brand is it going to be exclusive too, I'd assume RAW since its 3 hours long?

Maybe SD will bring back a version of the Hardcore Championship!? A fella can dream can't he? :(

IIRC, if everything works like how they want it, there will actually be a new, U.K brand show on the network that focuses only on the title and European superstars.

Tyler Bate defeated Pete Dunne in the finals of the United Kingdom Championship Tournament today to become the first WWE United Kingdom Champion. It's worth noting that Bate is only 19-years old.

It's a fabulous new day, yes it is!
I was trying to find his birth date just to see if he surpasses Rene Dupree as the youngest person to win a title in WWE, but it is only mentioned that he was born in 1997.

Loved the match between Mandrews and Dunne as well as Dunne vs Bate. Surprised Trent Seven didn't made it to semis.

Duprée was younger than Bate when he won the World Tag Team Titles as part of La Résistance by at least a few months.

It was reported yesterday that some of WWE’s Uk contracted talents have been pulled from upcoming indy events due to their WWE contracts as part of the UK Championship tournament.

According to PWinsider, WWE UK talents Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews and Trent Seven were due to appear at a live, “Working a Resthold” podcast Q&A ahead of a WXW show in London next week, but have now been removed.

The site also adds that talents cannot appear on events that would be posted online on services such as Vimeo and that in some cases they are being moved to dark matches for promotions or being finished up altogether as some promoters don’t want to have their hands tied, due to WWE’s restrictions.

I mean i like the idea but the name just doesnt flow well for me, the british championship sounds better or... just bring back the european title, at least it has some history around it! Then again, that might be boycotted by pro brexit wrestling fans :lol:

WWE posted the following video, where Cathy Kelley announces eight of the 16 competitors who will take part in June’s WWE UK Championship Tournament. The final 8 will be revealed on Friday. The first matches will take place at Download Festival on June 8th through the 10th. The eight that move on will compete on June 18th at Royal Albert Hall with the winner facing UK Champion Pete Dunne on the 19th.

* Zack Gibson
* Joe Coffey
* Jack Gallagher
* Dave Mastiff
* Kenny Williams
* El Ligero
* Joseph Conners
* Amir Jordan

Will be surprised if Gibson doesn't end up winning this. I imagine he will probably end up taking the strap off of Dunne, too.
