Who the hell is PewDiePie and why is he supposedly famous? I know he is a YouTube guy, but what makes him famous and newsworthy? I have never even heard of him or watched one of his videos until ike a month ago and it was nothing special at all. What makes him a big deal?

So, he's on the earlier end of the YouTube spectrum so a lot of people say he either created or perfected the random montages/narrative-based videos. I had to look into it myself, and it's I think a case of I'm sure I've seen a bunch of his videos but just don't know it.

So he became YouTube famous (but a lot of times creating legitimately decent content), continued to make stuff, and others noticed, which is why he was with Disney until they cut him.

He got famous because he was one of the first people to record himself playing video games while also making it so you can see the game as well. He has over the top reactions, mainly due to his character, PewDiePie. He's the most subscribed YouTube channel ever, by far too at 53 million while the second most is at 31 million (which is owned by a company). The next YouTube channel that is self owned is VanossGaming at 20+ million.

It wasn't until 2014 where he started popping up in multiple news articles because it was reported that he made $4 million in 2013 alone. Then in 2014 he had made $7.5 million, 2015 $12 million, and in 2016 $15 million. So it was this big shocker like, holy shit, this 20 something year old is racking in the dough just by making YouTube videos, playing video games, etc etc.

He is known for pushing boundaries and recently, pushed them a little too far. He posted a video explaining his side, apologizing for his very offensive jokes, and that the Wall Street Journal twisted some of his videos to make it seem like he's a Nazi and is anti-semitic, when in actuality, he isn't. I don't know what jokes he made or what he said, but it was offensive enough for Disney to cut ties and YouTube to cancel his YouTube show (not to be confused with his YouTube channel).

I've never been a fan of his videos, my wife and I tried watching a few of them and it wasn't our cup of tea. But the dude is a self made millionaire, he took advantage of people's short attention spans and turned it into an empire. He's what other YouTubers aspire to be. You could say maybe if it wasn't for him, there wouldn't be other YouTube millionaires that are in similar positions.

He went on a site where you can send money, like $5 or something, to people around the world and they will do nearly anything you pay them to. So he paid someone to hold up this sign:

That image (and the story behind it) is absolutely horrible. Fuck him. Based on everything I've read about the guy, it seems like he is deserving of the backlash he's getting. Aren't the majority of his fans teenage boys anyway? And nothing of value was lost.

For those interested in the actual video, someone re-uploaded it. Not sure how long it'll last though. I skipped to where it begins.

He even apologizes right in the video he did, that he felt wrong for doing it. The two dudes who did do it posted a video apologizing for what they did as they don't really understand English very well.
