It's basically a History competition. Every year, there is a different theme. You choose a topic (from a given list, or you can make your own if it fits into the theme) and try to connect it to the theme. I think all forms of Advanced History/Social Studies classes in my district must participate. You fill out "Updates" (1-5) that will hopefully help you in your research. Then you choose how you would like to present your report. Presentations range from exhibits, papers, skits, newspaper reports (editorial, etc.), and more. Either way, you must present (duh). You are graded on a scale of 1-10 and must adhere to strict rules (imo). (Ex: word count, font, etc.) You school chooses 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and they move onto Regionals. The winners there move on the states. Then it's nationals iirc, which are in Philedelphia. The cool part about this is that it takes place during final exams week. Policy is that whatever exams you miss, "oh well!" Anyone participating? I'm pretty sure anyone across the United States can participate. |

Bumping a very old topic to say that my oral presentation is scheduled on Monday, the 30th. I'm really nervous, since last year, my judge was the head of the social studies department.
This is actually probably the only project I started early, and by early, I mean more than a week in advance. Normally, I do them 1-2 days before the due date unless I know it will take a long time.Today, I finished the Process Paper and Title Page and Annotated Bibliography and Theme part. Go me! Wish me luck! |

Um, I remember in class my paper got a B-, mostly because I did last minute it big time. Yeah, good luck. I know it's nervous, but the worst they can do in the competition is have you lose. |

I technically can't "lose" because I'm not at regionals or states or nationals. They're announcing the winners of each category on the 8th of February. I doubt I got to regionals since there were alot of really good exhibits there, and all those people were in my class. I'm pretty sure I got Mastery on the Oral Presentation but I think the actual project counts towards qualification for regionals. I guess I should pray that I don't have more than 500 words. I used Microsoft's Word Count Tool and it said I had 495 words but my brother counted for me and so did I and we both got around 460. I did a paper last year too. I did really bad for the numerical project grade but I did pass the oral presentation. |

Sorry, I was just looking at your profile. Don't you need to be in high school? (Unless you're in 9th grade and haven't had your birthday yet, which would make me mistaken.) I'm going as Level 6 this year for NYSSMA. Btw, what does that have to do with national history day lol?
I'm doing an exhibit. You must communicate through the power of pictures. (lol) The point of an exhibit is so people don't have to read. The people in my school must not be good, since no one makes it to states really. Some girl in my class did last year though. |
