Ok, so you've found your way here to this forum, and you are probably going WTF at the database mods. That's fine; I'm here to explain them. Q. What are database mods? A. Database mods are a tool implemented by a server owner that allow Pokemon to get more moves and traits than they otherwise would have. Certain Pokemon may lose moves as well. For instance, on my mod server, Farfetch'd has the traits Water Veil and Pure Power instead of Keen Eye, Pelipper can learn Heal Bell, and Snorlax cannot use Curse. Q. How do I use the database mods? A. Go to the teambuilder and on the narrow gray bar at the top select version. From there you should see an option "Mod: AA's Mod Server". The first time you do this you will have to be on the server. It's just like changing the version to RBY. Q. What mods does this server have? A. http://z13.invisionfree.com/AA_Mod_Server_...php?showtopic=1 Q. What? Why did Heracross/Tyranitar/Salamence/whoever get screwed? These mods suck! A. No, you just don't understand the philosophy. Q. What philosophy? A. I'm glad you asked. The philosophy behind the mods is that the UUs get help while the OUs get nerfed to bring all Pokemon together into one metagame. If you are curious about which level of power I balanced, I tried to make all Pokemon as good as Venusaur. Of course, nothing's perfect. Some really bad Pokemon are quite simply beyond saving(Ledian is a fine example), and ubers are excluded(there are exceptions). The mods themselves are also not perfect, and inevitably some Pokemon end up being more useful than others, but at least now almost all of them are usable. We are also constantly tweaking the mod to get a more full balance. Q. Why don't you just make all the UUs better and leave the OUs alone? The OUs suck now! A. This is a frequent question, and it deserves a fair answer. The fact of the matter is that that is impossible. Some OUs have insane stats and movepools. I can only mod movepools and traits. Let's take Tyranitar. He learns just about every move in the book, and he has insane stats across the board. Now look at Sunflora. Sunflora has an awful movepool and awful stats. So how can I make the two of them equal? I obviously can't raise Sunflora's stats so I raise its movepool quite a bit, and my only remaining option is to reduce Tyranitar's movepool. However, note that Tyranitar is still quite potent. He has really great stats so even though is movepool limits him, he can do a lot of damage by statistically outclasssing other Pokemon. Q. WTF is up with Unown? He got every move! A. Actually, he didn't get Struggle(if you want to see someone who did, look at Magikarp). But on that note, Unown is scripted so you can only have 1 new move plus hidden power. It's like he got Sketch as a special move from the New York Pokemon Center. Q. Why do you have so many random/useless mods? A. Look ingame for your answer. Most moves Pokemon get are useless. I was merely replicating the pattern. It also makes CC interesting and give the mods character. Furthermore, several mostly useless moves open the door to potential surprise sets. Crunch Raticate could be used on a random special Raticate, for instance. Inferior yes, but possible also. Q. Some of these mods don't make sense? Since when can Pidgeot blow itself up? A. The metagame was a higher priority than logical sense, but I did take effort to make sure every mod made some logical sense. For instance, when birds eat rice they blow up. Hence Pidgeot gets self-destruct. I do use far flung logic in some cases. Farfetch'd is like a swordsman with that leek; he has pure power. Water evaporates on Magcargo's shell, and the rock forms a protective layer. Hence, water absorb. Q. Can I be a mod/admin? A. No. Modded server does not mean random people are moderators. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask here, and assuming the quesiton isn't completely stupid, I'll add in the answer. |
