I thought this topic may pop up, and it has.
Just want to re-iterate that we will be fairly strict on where a player can play on the field.
Ziggy for example has labeled Mackie as a Key Defender, when he rarely if ever plays that position. If they line up on Franklin every now and again that DOES NOT make them a key defender.
A key defender is someone who I'd classify as someone who more than half the time plays on an opposition Key Forward.
For example, just because Mackie is 'tall', does not make him a key defender. That goes the same for guys like Jesse W. Smith and Josh Drummond.
This goes for other positions as well, if they aren't known to spend a great deal of time at that position, don't pick them to play there.
You can probably get away with it a little at the forward end though, as Brad Johnson generally plays FF for the Bulldogs, so I'd allow him at FF, perhaps not CHF though.

It has to be a blanket rule and it has to be decided now. I think most div 1 coaches were picking under the assumption that it had to be a regular key back. ie bock, scarlett etc. I certainly was. I for one would love to play hodge at CHB but this shouldnt be allowed and if it's not allowed for hodge then it shouldn't be allowed for any other "imposter " KPPs

Like Shabby says, it needs to be as 'black and white' as possible, allowing running defenders like Milburn and Mackie opens the floodgates for heaps of people to play in key positions.
This would defeat the purpose of a 22.

Probably should get the Positions from one of TFC and TFM and then talk about them from there.
Wouldn't want to draft a player if they couldn't play the position i wanted them for.

Hmm I'd rather you played him as a mid, because apart from that 8 goal game he had, he really hasn't spent a lot of time as a key forward before that.

Guys, lets cut the bullshit right here and now about this... Its not that hard. Even though we encourage a competitive league, do not go to the extremes and attempt to bend the rules to gain a few extra points.
Play players where they get played by their AFL clubs.
As a general guide, use supercoach and dream team position segments from 2007/2008 to determine who is a Defender/Midfielder/Ruck/Forward.
In addition, KEY POSITION means Full Back or CHB. Geelong is a good example! Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley, Matthew Egan and Harry Taylor are the key position defenders.
Players like Andrew Mackie and Darren Milburn are taller defenders, but absolutely not key position for fkuc sake! Don't debate the issue, watch a Cats game from 2005-now to proove me right.
Usually, there are 2-3 SENIOR key position defenders per club. We all know who they are, don't carry on and try to play back pockets/half backs there, or players who have played there in the distant past like Goodes and Pavlich!
If you have a query about who is KP ask an admin before u pick them. And for those who've drafted someone ur expecting to play in a position they used to play but never spend any time there now, don't bitch if we don't bend the rules to let u put players in incorrect positions.
Use common sense and lets have fun!

Well TFC has Milburn and Mackie as small backs, which we all knew anyway.
Just got to be smart and logical about it. I don't care if he can/could play there.....we want players to play in their 'normal' positions. Only in special circumstances (eg. Petrie) should players be able to play in multiple positions.

Ask a member of the admin before u draft the player. If you feel that the player in question wouldn't be able to play in the position u want them to, then chances are ure probably right, and they won't be allowed.

There are a few KP players who i think can spend time in a few positions. goodes, brennan, petrie, chad cornes, richardson are the ones that spring to mind. Other than that i can't think of any. The non KPP are a lot more versatile so just play them where it is believable.

I wouldn't call Goodes a KPP.

Neither. The only time he played there well was against Fremantle.

Hmmm not me. Goodesy can play on the wing, ruckman, rover or ruck-rover (and Centre for that matter). HFF might count as well.

Wouldn't play him as a ruck, when was the last time he played ruck?
Shouldn't be played anywhere bar the midfield IMO.
Unless next year he does play key forward.

No he doesnt play ruck coz they dont want him getting injured. To me Sydney use him as a KPP if they need to so that's why i think he should be able to in this game as well. Suits me fine if he doesn't though.
