Feck. I had no clue about this rule so pick 142 was skipped. Dam.
There were more than 24 hours between pick 141 and 143. Those limits were always in place so the new rules were not applied to pick 142.
The new 4 hour limit starts tomorrow morning.
All coaches should submit a preference list from now on or risk having their picks skipped. The draft will really speed up from here on so get online as much as possible if you're not going to give a preference list!!!

no worries mate.
Just be aware that the tie limit for draft picks will now be 4 hours so picks will come up a lot quicker than they were.
If you're worried about missing your picks then you should send a preference list to one (or more) of the admin so you don't miss out on your preferred players

Geelong Lightning Interesting team set up. Alot of older names in P Burger, Burton, Headland, McDonald, Stenglein and Wirrapanda. Will need to be promoted first year or they will struggle for years to come. Lacking in draft picks, I'm not sure where the improvement will come from and with no real fire power I'm tipping the Lightning to be making up numbers in division 2. Look out for: Injuries/Retirements to hit hard. The key is: Tom Hawkins. With such a high pick invested in him, he better stand up.
I appreciate the time taken to give these reviews, but surely your analysis of my team is a joke. You say a lot of old players. But in reality there isn't. Burger, Burton, McDonald and Lade are my oldest. The rest have still got a few years off footy to come. I have also balanced it out with some younger guys in my 22 with Kelly, Reilly, Jones, Higgins not old at all. Waiting in the wings to replace my older guys are players like Lower, Proud, Callan and Duffield who are already decent scorers and will only get better with experience. The Lightning will smash every division 2 side out of the ground this year, and would do ok in Division one. Draft picks have been overrated by may division two coaches.
Disagree with your draft pick statement, and I'm very confident that having 6/12 top picks this year will hold me in very good stead for the future, rather than just a short stint in Div.1.
I don't expect to be promoted next year, but I've got the foundations for a top side in the coming years.

Vast majority do these days though, as drafting isn't the pot luck it once was. I'm extremely confident that at least 5 of my top 6 picks will be very good.

Riz u might smash div 2, but every team bar maybe aus bushrangers will have a legitimate shot at a div 1 flag before u.
You get promoted, then burger, mcdonald, lade, burton and headland all retire at the end of 2009/10... goodluck trying to replace 5 of ur best 22 and trying not to slip back to div 2 in 2010 and beyond.
Even if this game lasted a decade (which I agree, no games do), you would probably still never be a div 1 premiership coach.
Kelly has no upside, what you saw in 2008 is the best he will ever be (and he was very good I agree)... but at 23 y/o, ur best midfielder averages low 90's.
I picked up Kade Simpson who averages only an effective kick less than Kelly with picks about 50 spots later than what you used to get ur midfield gem.
Hawkins is just as likely to have another up and down season considering he is still wearing a moon boot with his potential stress fracture. Can't see him automatically replacing Lonergan or Mooney for a round 1 walk up.
Your team is exceptional for a divison 2 side in 2009, however if you don't get promoted then, u probably never will.
I agree completely with RLL.
Firstly, Headland isn't that old. But the same stuff could be said for a few teams who have old scorers. Every year you lose players, but there are many methods that you can recoup them. Trading, Drafting etc. Whatever happens next year, I am assured of a top 8 pick. Which in time will replace one. I also have ready made replacements that are sitting in my reserves, they have just as much potential to score well as the likes of the younger guys drafting. People in division two have put way to much importance on being young. Get your team then go young if you want. Taking draft picks can go either way. THey might be good, might be shit. Kade Simpson is average at best. You can't polish shit and turn it into gold stoney. As for Hawkins, your perceptions are skewed by the fact you don't have him in your team. Tomma will be right to go, he was right to go come finals. Massive year he will have, we both know it.
As said, Simpson averages the equivilent of one or two effective disposals less than Kels... if simpson is shit, and kels is ur best mid.. I'll stop there.
I have the upmost respect for u in these games, u know ur stuff as good as anyone, hence why u will dominate div 2. Im not out to dominate div 2 in 09, but im out to dominate div 1 in 4-5 years time with kreuz, masten, dalziel, scott selwood becoming the next generation of gun youngsters in the afl.
You will win div 2 no question, u just won't last long in div one imo. And believe me, 2009 is des headlands last season, u heard it here first at www.stoney.com.au.

When you get promoted into div 1, you'll be up against the top 4 teams in the game and the other promoted team.
To then stay up in that division, you are going to have to be better than at least 1 of those top 4 teams. Those top 4 teams who should theoretically have 18 players better than your best player and those 4 teams who should be decently coached as they survived relegation. Good luck.

JM you can take your pick now, as my pick that I took for Pie was overdue, meaning HP has had his 4 hours.

I'd love to agree with you on that as I'm ready to take my pick.
Problem is that HP couldn't take his pick until after Pie's was taken so unfortunately HP has only had one hour.
It's odds on that HP won't be online tonight to take his pick but on the off chance that he is it's better that he's given his whole 5 hours.
Can you guys tell me what time Pie's pick was taken (Melbourne time). If it was after 7pm I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to take my pick.
Essentially an 11pm cut off means that the cut off in QLD is actually 10pm
What do you think about making it 12am in Melb instead of 11pm cutoff?
P.S. I sent a pm to HP on bigfooty today to tell him he's up and to get online more often

7:43pm Melbourne time for Pie's pick.
So that would make it 11:43pm tonight before the next pick can be taken if he doesn't take his pick.
Or 8:43am tomorrow morning if the 11pm cutoff remains (which is 7:43am in QLD). Way too early for me to be up on a Sunday!

But Pie got skipped anyway didn't he? Because the Cougas took their pick as Pie's 4 hours were up, so wouldn't the 4 hours begin after The Cougars' pick?

Yeah, you're right
Let's get our picks done then
btw, what do you think about making the cutoff time 12 midnight Melb time instead of 11pm?

I myself have no issues with it, and it makes it a nice even 16 hours for drafting.
I'm all for it.
