Something really needs to be sorted. A draft plan needs to be released and everybody needs to abide by it.
Preference lists are the easiest way to speed up the draft. There is no disadvantage in giving one in and it'll get the draft done in quick time.

So why didn't you send one in?
Only joking mate.
There are a good 6-7 coaches that need to lift their game.

For the guys complaining, we've been asking for preference lists for ages. Most coaches haven't given one. We can't force everyone to have one. We've tried to implement a timetable system that would speed the draft up and pretty much mean everyone needs to hand in a preference list if they wanna get their picks but that wasn't too popular with the coaches who are making an effort to do their picks. All we can do apart from that is bring the time limit down to something like 10 hours. That would obviously speed things up but I think there would be some oppostion to that too.
Is there anything someone else can suggest because this draft is getting really frustrating.

This is just an idea right off the top of my head but what if we had a drafting window everyday from say 5 - 11 pm where two rounds of the draft must be completed. There would be something like a 30 minute time limit for each pick until the two drafts were completed. Then from 11pm til 5pm the next day draft picks can be taken without a time limit,
Most coaches are online during this time frame and would ensure the draft moves quickly. Everyone would know that they will have 2 picks per night and will have to send in preference lists ifthey can't be on.

I'm fine with that but I can think of a few who will complain.

I think the main problem is that the admin are asking what everybody thinks. There are some coaches on here who tend to just disagree with everything so you're never going to make everyone happy. Have a talk between yourselves, then put something in place.

By the way, RLL skipped, PS you can take your pick.
If the draft limit is currently 12 hours, why was my pick skipped?
Ziggy took his pick at 10:28 AM on the 22nd, and you said mine was skipped at 09:58 AM. If the next pick had been taken, I would have been mighty pissed off.

yeah rll, thats 23.5 hours, not 11.5. And as for us asking what all the coaches think I think that's very important and the ideas we've had have been opposed quite strongly. I for one don't wanna put into place ideas that the majority of coaches don't agree with.

Owned. Post retracted.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't consult the coaches, but it shouldn't be scrapped simply because a few people are disagreeing.
Lower the limit to 6 hours. If people can't be on, then make a preference list or they'll be skipped. If they complain, then tell them to stop wasting time complaining when they could be preparing a preference list.

I like dtm's idea.
I would still be in favour of something less drastic at first though, like shortening the time limit whilst excluding sleeping hours from the limit.
Another idea would be to give each coach a designated period of time to make multiple rounds of picks. For example, you might give each coach 30 hours to take 5 rounds worth of picks. So if they take 10 hours to take their first pick, they then have 20 hours to take their next 4 picks, then if they only take 2 hours to take their next pick, they then have 18 hours to take 3 picks etc etc. If they go over their time allocation before 5 picks are done, they automatically get skipped or have to send in a pref list until 5 picks are done, then it restarts for the next 5 picks.
This would be a subtle way of effectively reducing the time limit to, in my example, 6 hours (30 hours for 5 picks = avg 6 hours per pick).

Happy to go with either of these options. Would like to hear from JM if possible.

Under my system, reliable coaches get rewarded for picking quickly as there is scope to take longer to pick on the odd occassion that they need to and there is no chance of reliable coaches getting skipped like in the other system if they can't get online during a specific period even if they are otherwise very reliable.
There is also scope to give each specific team a different time limit dependent on their draft position, plus you could make it a running total system where if you use less than 30 hours the first 5 picks, the remaining hours can be added to your next lot of 5 picks as a reward, and alternatively if you take longer for the first 5 you could be given less time for the next 5.

I like the 30 hours for 5 rounds but I wouldn't want to wait 30 hours for one pick to be taken so I think there'd still need to be a limit on how long can be taken for any one pick.
I also like the suggestion to have 30min time limits between 5pm-11pm or whatever times it was.
Remember, even if your pick is skipped you can still take it when you're online next so it should only cost you a few positions anyway as long as you're on regularly.
But if preference lists are given you won't miss anything!!
Also, don't know what was up with someone saying admin isn't online very often. All 3 of us log on numerous times per day

That'd probably be right. But I don't see the relevance. Wanna elaborate?
As I said we all log on numerous times per day. We're not the ones holding up the draft.
If people submitted preference lists like we've been asking the draft would move faster.
I know it's frustrating for everyone having to wait so long between picks but we're actually well ahead of schedule based on calculations made before the draft started. If we can see the pace pick up to around double what it is now we'll get through it nice and fast

Can't believe this discussion is still going.
Force each coach to submit a preference list, or they forfeit their picks. Simpple.

We're a long way ahead of schedule rll. We have time to have a think about this. The response has been good to the last 2 ideas so I'd say one of those will be implemented before too long.
