The House of Brandenburg Capital: Berlin Population: 1000000 Languages: German(main), Polish, Italian, and English Religion: Roman Catholic Government: Absolute Monarchy Leader: After the Holy Roman Empire capitulated, Germany split into several kingdoms. The House of Brandenburg was one of those kingdoms. Like the German Empire, the House of Brandenburg used both diplomats and its army to conquer surrounding city-states and kingdoms. The House's power and land increased greatly over time. It soon came to rival that of the German Empire. Once the House spread its reach into Mecklenburg, it had some influence on trade in the Baltic Sea. This unlocked a whole new world of trade to the House. It started to become the center of trade in Europe. Merchants from all of Europe, especially England and Italy, showed up at Berlin, which caused a huge spike in the House's population, and its wealth. By 1500, 12,000 people lived in Berlin alone. |
