| Welcome to A Worlde Apart. We hope you enjoy your visit. By logging in you enter a Sci-Fi themed collaborative writing game in which you are invited to create a character (or 2) and exercise your imagination in conjunction with other writers to create a series of stories based upon a background that I (Dagiris) have started (Much inspired by www.worldearcane.com which is currently inactive) and that you as players and writers will expand upon and adapt over time. The setting is a pocket universe entirely separate from our own, it exists in a Null Space where galaxies do not exist, only isolated star systems. Each star system is surrounded by a sphere which gives the sentient population within the illusion that they are in a "normal" area of space, their telescopes and sensors will see stars and galaxies beyond the confines of their own star system, but until they unlock the truth, then any attempt to travel beyond their star system will result getting lost in the Null Space, forever unable to to return. Argroww stood on the observation deck of the Galvomore Star Spire, why they’d called it a spire he couldn’t for the life of him figure out. He’d been brought up here as a representative of the pure-blood Wolvians of which there were still a fairly high number of, but most preferred to remain in their various natural environments, protected well against the wars of 2000 years ago. As predicted the Dark Underlord arose, and even though signs had lead them to believe that he might rise earlier than the prophecy dictated what truly happened was a time of dark chaos, where his minions rages rampant before his true arrival, for about 500 years such chaos reigned and it was a poor time to be aligned with the more peaceful forces of the Worlde, what made things worse were that several agents independant of the Dark Underlord and his minions also strove to dominate the lands. Argroww recalled the most trying time he had was looking after the young Rhylise, a very troubled young man who shared his body with the will of a particularly nasty Daemoness who didn’t seem to realise she was already dead, the boy turned out to be an agent for both sides with his Clan-Sister Irrega following him around for the rest of her natural life. It wasn’t till their child came of age that Lise finally settled, the power of that child being so strong that it was abel to dominate what remained of the Daemoness. Argroww had to admit the encounter has been satisfying to watch, but took so long to finally be achieved due to the prolonged pregnancy and maturing of the child that Lise did much damage when he was at his worst, almost to the point that some believe him to be the Dark Underlord! Now the father and son had left the Worlde long ago to travel other planes together, no longer feeling that the Worlde had anything left for them. The aged Wolvian knew not of what had happened to Zan, he last saw him during some war after the Dark Underlord’s second rising, his fate lost to him. Of his many other friends and allies he knew little, the years having obscured much. He looked out of the massive plexi-glass window, surrounded by many of the Spire’s officers, crew, staff and observers, from here he could see the blue/green world that he had called home for so long and he had to admit it was an incredible sight, mostly for the fact that it was still there, there was a massive storm in the northern hemisphere, pulsing with dangerous magick, it never moved, the region had been lost for 1500 years now, the Dark Underlord’s spirit trapped in a spell that had cost many lives to be cast, but was a far stronger prison than he has been sealed in before. Since then the Worlde had gone through many changes, the spell had done more than just destroy lives, it had weakened the Worlde’s connection to the magical elements, some races had almost completely died out because of it, others changed forever, it had also forced a revolution of a like never seen or heard of before, suddenly the Dwarves and Elves had new goals, come up with ways of doing things that Magick had previously allowed for. Curiously the underground city of New Galvomore became a new haven for this revolution, already the city was geared up towards industry, it’s clever use of Wolvian Spirit magick and Dwarven ingenuity has resulted in inventions and techniques that the Seeker’s Guild helped spread and quite suddenly the whole world was changing into something new and unexpected, whilst Magick was weaker on the whole, what remained was put to new uses never thought of before, it’s nature became understood better and the potential behind it and the fact that in truth Magick was a generalism of a form of radiation that came from the Worlde’s sun and the dimensional nexus that existed in the same place as the Worlde itself, careful research had revealed the different strains, how they affected people and objects, giving them power of varying nature. Oddly the one race that could not be explained was his own, the Wolvian power of the Spirit realm had baffles any research into it’s nature, and whilst it’s effects could be replicated through other methods, it’s exact nature still eluded the Magickers. Still, here he was, still alive, many of his brethren lost long ago. Even Gree-Agraa a fellow Roh-Gah had not survived, proof that even his own Goddess was not infallible, she had promised them both immortality and bodies that would heal from any wound, even complete destruction. However the riot of the technomage wars of 1000 years ago had revealed that some things were beyond her powers, this time the wars had not been driven by Dark Forces, but by Uman greed and sympathisers of their opinion. Of all the races the Umans were least blessed by the Magckial gift (or curse in some cases) and this steadily lead to jealousy as the new cities and guilds formed after the Dark Underlord was sealed away again, to the point that they banded together and started coming up with alternative technologies and new devices, some of which could circumvent Magick...and some of which defeated the Wolvian’s own abilities, many of his race were lost during that war, albeit a brief war. Argroww himself lost his right arm, the right side of his face, his left foot and a considerable section of his belly, wounds that would kill anyone else, but somehow his Goddess poured enough of her power into him to survive, for 300 years he’d lain in stasis, no-one even knew he was there, buried underground after a section of a cliff had fallen on him. Once uncovered long after the technowar had ceased, believed to be a relic by the Uman archaeologists had dug him up and given to the citizen of New Galvomore, then and now existing as much overground as it did underground, his body was found to still be alive. A team of Galvomore Wolvians, who he’d barely known existed himself, spent several years after that probing his body, using their unique knowledge to find out both what kept him alive, and what they could do to fully restore him to life. In the end it was a combination of Uman technology and their own Spirit Crafting that restored him, mechanical parts that gave him and arm, foot, face and all his torso back, but not without cost. He looked at the mechanical hand that now served him on his right side and flexed the palm, it was designed to resemble a wolvian paw, but could never be the same, it was clearly metal, had no fur and also had a number of tools and devices installed in it, some of which made up of the loss of his mastery of the Spirit Worlde. Oh he still had considerable power, but teleportation was beyond him now as were many other things he had taken for granted. He was however still immortal, after his....repair....he had lived on, still not aging and watching as the Worlde didn’t just grow, but attained world peace, every continent coming into union, that is when they became aware of the stars, and what they represented, something new, something beyond. Also within his view from the observation window was the massive starship, S.S. Wolvaris. He had been brought onto the project as a diplomat, one of his remaining powers was still Spiritalk, the ability to talk to any being irrelevant of language, and in turn to understand them, although he could now speak easier in any language too due to his mechanical aspects. It made him a natural asset, beyond his other skills, although some of which were shared by many. The Wolvian combat arts had proved highly efficient for most races to adapt, creating an unarmed martial technique that was now considered mandatory, most soldiers now carried light clawed gauntlets for when in unarmed combat. This happened even though the majority of pure-blood Wolvians had deigned not to get involved with the space exploration project, in fact all Clans barring the Galvomore Clan (who were not considered pure-bloods anyway) had refused, although individuals from those clans had in some cased joined in, or advised where they could. Argroww had been advised to wait on the observation deck before boarding the S. S. Wolvaris, supposedly he would be boarding with a few others who hadn’t turned up yet. Fortunately he’d now been around long enough that he was no long a major celebrity, still he came across the occasional person who was interested enough in history to realise who they were in the presence of and also feel awed by the fact, there weren’t many immortals left...or at least not so many that were willing to admit it. Talan ran along the cold metal corridors of the Medtech facility, this was the second time he had escaped confinement and he was determined this time he would make sure he got off the accursed vessel. He turned a corner to be faced with a large glass view port which obviously was a dead end. The sight before him was more more than stomach churning to the young man. He had thought himself to be in a ground based facility, but the blue/green orb far below him told him that was not actually so. He pressed his hands against the thick plexiglass and stared out at the sea of stars and space before him and his home. He had been knocked out and bought here, someone had ratted him out to the Medtech, not so much him but what he could do. It was a family secret and they had kept it secret for such a long time know. His ancestral grandfather of good knows how far back had been a Pyromancer, that was what they had called it then anyway....a fire maker, and it seemed that this 'gift' had been passed down the male line. He recalled his own father, Thardro, telling him that he must not display it, there were many that could use such an ability for bad things. When he had turned sixteen he had gotten the tattoo that all the males of the family had, a phoenix that stretched from shoulder to shoulder and down the spine. It had bloody hurt getting the tattoo, but it was a family tradition, just like his being named after the first Talan. He could hear the klaxon sounding signalling his escape. The noise was a horrible sound, it heralded the arrival of soldiers and then the Head Scientist, Tal hated him with a vengeance. That smooth calculating voice, the cold grey eyes, the nasty satisfaction he saw in the man's face as he was dragged back to his cell. He turned and ran back to the main corridor, there had to be a way off of this ship. But that was not to be today as he was blocked both ends of the corridor by guards with their stun weapons. That voice sounded over the intercom. "There is no where fer yew to go Talan.....'The Haven' is yer home now......at least until we are done with yew!" He looked to both ends of the corridor, two guards one end and one guard the other.....an opportunity. The ship was docked, he had seen the edges of the connection from where he had viewed out. If it was docked then there was a way off of The Haven and away from Doctor Avarn. He knew that one on one he did not have a hope of beating the guard, he was five foot seven of not very much and the guard was built like a brick outhouse! He would have to use the fire and he hated having to do that, he knew Avarn watched everything and a display of the fire would make him all the more eager to make sure he stayed on board. He started a light jog towards the one man who blocked his way, the heat starting to build as he concentrated, his head down. He did not want to kill the guard, just create enough of a diversion for him to get past and out into the docking area. He let the power out as a stream at the nearest conduit to the man, it sparked viciously and the panel blew outwards knocking the surprised guard to one side, to bang his head against the bulkhead. Talan was surprised himself at the results and paused briefly to stare at the fizzling electronics. "Sorry Dad!" He said softly under his breath, remembering his promise to his family not to display what they could do. Up head he could see the airlock and freedom, there were no guards in advance of him, he reached it and slammed the button to open the door, it groaned open and as soon as there was enough of a gap to slip through Talan did. He ran across a long bridge towards some sort of station entrance and prayed there would be somewhere to hide when he got there. Avarn would send others out to look fer him....under the guise of doctors, he would not let him go now, especially after witnessing the thing with the panel. He slipped inside the door the other end and his head swung in both directions, one way he could hear noise and chatter, a crowd....and where better to hide than in a crowd. He found the room easily enough, all sorts of people waiting, talking, by the window stood a large Wolvian, if it could still be called a Wolvian with the cybernetic implants. His family history had said his ancestor Talan had been heavily involved with a Wolvian....Iron Claw. He shook his head, this was no time for family stories, he needed to blend in and quickly. “Ah Argroww, there you are..uhh...Sir?” Said a young Uman woman dressed in an officer’s uniform, a cap hid her hair and Argroww guessed she might be considered attractive, but was a poor judge of such things, throughout his long life he’d had little time for relationships, it was odd in way. “Argroww will do just fine” his natural eye narrowed at the name badge “Private Telsing, what can I do for you?” “We’re due to board soon, just waiting for the last shuttle of passengers from the surface, just thought you might want to know, what do you think of the S.S. Wolvaris?” Argroww shrugged “I’m a poor judge of such things, but I guess it looks like a good ship, very...uhh...large” “I’m surprised that you said that, most people don’t understand the perspective, she’s big, that’s for sure, some of the inside of the starship have been designed to recreate places down on the surface, so much so that you wouldn’t even know you were in space!” At that moment there was a brief commotion as someone ran into the room, Argroww momentarily made eye contact with the young boy who then vanished into the crowd of people. It took him a moment, but there was something familiar about the look in his eyes, something from long before even the 2nd rising, a person he met briefly in his travels, he shook his head and was about to continue talking to the office when a few armed guards ran into the room, something that suddenly changed the mood way more than a single boy did. However with credit towards the station personnel they reacted quickly, their own stun blasters leaping into their hands as they spun towards the guards from some docked space vessel. There was a brief exchange between the two sets of people that Argroww could hear over the general noise of the room, the guards then looked at an older man who came in at a more sedate pace behind them, he waved his hand and they de-activated and holstered their weapons. Even so the station guards gave the older man a bit of an ear chewing by the looks of it, he got fairly huffy over it, but they took none of his bluster, the guards were sent back to where-ever they came from, the man however stayed with a single unarmed guard and started weaving through the crowd. “Wonder what that is all about?” Argroww said. “Oh, I know him” the Private said “He’s Professor Avarn, some medical researcher, got his own Star Clipper.” Talan felt sick from where he stood sandwiched between some people that jostled to see what had happened with the guards and the he caught sight of Avarn. The man's cruel grey eyes swept the room, there was only one way in and out of the Observation Deck, he was trapped. Avarn would find him and he would be taken back to The Haven and made to pay for running away...none of the 'patients' got to leave. He backed away unto he felt the bulkhead against his back and he closed his eyes and hoped that he would not be seen, perhaps Avarn might get bored and leave, but he doubted it after the display he just gave on The Haven. Right enough, hard fingers circled his arm and a voice spoke quietly into his ear. "That was very stupid of you boy....very stupid....but very informative too" Avarn put a tight arm about Talan's shoulder and spoke loud enough for the station guards to hear. "There yew are my boy....lucky we found yew, yew being as sick as yew are....come on, let's get you back to your room....nice and comfortable!" Talan was steered forward towards the door, back to The Haven and this time they would leave and he would never have another chance. He called out the word of Wolvian he had ever learned the translation was rough and rudimentary at best. "Agra!" Argroww approached the professor, the Private trailing after him as she’d only been instructed to ensure that the Wolvian boarded the Star Ship safely. “The correct pronunciation is Agraa young man” he said adding a growl into the word that Talan had not used “And I might add that it’s correct use is in conjuction with the name of the Clan leader you are referencing, if you were addressing me then I am no Agraa, I am a Roh-Gah which translates roughly into ‘Hand of The Great Wolf’.” The Wolvian took stock of the situation, the Professors hand quite possessively grasping onto the boys arm and taking in what the man had said. “Professor Avarn, explain to me what is wrong with this child, I sense no illness in him? In fact as far as I can tell he is the picture of health, positively glowing in fact.” Talan gave a small sigh on relief, the plan had worked to a degree, he had attracted the Wolvian's attention for now. Avarn looked less pleased from the sideways glance Talan gave him. The Professor gave the huge creature before him a courteous smile that did not quite reach his eyes. "Talan is somewhat of a difficult case." He said smoothly. "He is unbalanced, after losing his family he went off the path and the courts awarded his care to me. They hoped I could work with him to help him accept their deaths, it was tragic...his father, his mother and sister died in a cruiser accident." He tightened his grip on Talan's arm. "This is not the first time he has tried to run from a facility, we were treating him ground side but he ran away so it was thought perhaps bringing him on board my ship The Haven might be better." He pulled out a Sedi-ject from his pocket. "Now there has been enough excitement and disruption for one day.....I need to quieten him down and get him back!" “So you are suggesting that this is a mental health issue Professor?” The Wolvian queried knowing perfectly well that his own SpiritMastery could detect such disturbances in a person’s Spirit for mental deficiencies as much as physical ones and whilst he could confirm that the boy was distraught and possibly over his families death, he was also able to tell the boy was of sound mind, or at least as sound as his current situation would allow him. Argroww felt that there was more than met the eye here and up close he could see they boys eyes, which wide with fear were clearly flecked with gold in his irises, it was a rare thing in Umans and often suggested (although not reliably) that they may possess the Pyromancy trait. “You will do no such thing, so the boy is an orphan, under the direct care of your medical offices? Well then, I formally tender an offer of guardianship, as is I believe, my right. My quarters on the Wolvaris are sufficient for an additional passenger are they not Private Telsing?” “Yes, yes they are Sir, uh, Argroww” she responded, somewhat uncertainly as she felt caught in the middle of something beyond her training. Avarn stared at the Wolvian his grip tightening on the boy's arm making the lad wince. "Talan is under my care, he is my patient, yew cannot just up and take him off of me mid treatment!" He said coolly. He looked at Talan, the look made the boy shiver, it was not a happy nor kind look. It was the look that spoke volumes what was going to happen back on The Haven. Avarn looked back to the Wolvian irritably. "Yew don't want this boy he is disruptive and difficult, he needs constant watching and medicating regularly, not the sort yew want to share close quarters with Sir!" Talan looked pleadingly at Argroww, if he went back to Avarn's ship there would be the Underworlde to pay. The Professor would waste no time in first punishing him for running and then experimenting on him to see how he had blown the panel out. Life would be unbearable. “I think you’ll find I can Professor Avarn, if you care to dispute my right to take on this child with me as his Guardian you may check with any official here, I can even quote you the full line from the legislature document. As to his temperament, I have met and dealt with worse, check the historical archives, there are few children who can be any worse than the Dark Underlord himself.” Argroww would have smirked, if his mouth was capable of such an expression, interestingly the more that the Professor tried to deny Argroww his right, the more determined he became to get his way. “Now then, please let go of the boy’s arm as I believe you are hurting him, which is quite unnecessary, I have a Star Ship to board in a few minutes and I would prefer not to be kept waiting, would you want to be responsible for delaying the Union’s diplomat?” Argroww looked towards the guards who were still nearby and towards the Private standing just behind him with a bemused expression on her face. The guards had been listening in on the conversation and knew well enough amongst them of both Argroww’s status and of the legislature that he was speaking of, which stated that if there was no genuine medical reason for a child to remain in medical care then they could be legally claimed by an appropriate parent or guardian if such family did not exist. Appropriate being designated as one who had the resources and aptitude to take on the child with suitable care and attention to that child’s needs. The guardian was not allowed to have any affiliation with the hospital to restrict hospital staff from abusing the legislation. As far as those listening were concerned, Argroww ticked all the boxes, barring the aptitude perhaps, but none would be willing to question that point that worked for the Union in the observation lounge at that point. The Professor let go of his arm and Talan rubbed it with some satisfaction, though the bony fingers will have left bruises for sure. Avarn stepped to one side, his smile tight and cold as he regarded the Wolvian diplomat. "You are making a big mistake taking this boy believe me.....his place is on The Haven with the people that can sort him out!" He gestured to Talan. "Go on then Talan.....you have what you want, but we shall see for how long, I think I will see you again soon!" He said with a sharp smile. Talan stepped forward wrapping his arms about himself and he gazed up at the huge Wolvian before him. "Thanks." He said quietly, feeling Avarn's steely glare boring into the back of his skull. "You may have just saved me from a terrible fate!" “So then, it appear that I’ve earned myself a Son, you’ll be the first I’ve had for about 1500 years, although I’ve never had one of my own blood, and never will, the curse of immortality” he said with a sigh. “Well then Talan, we must talk, but let us wait till we’re on board the Wolvaris eh?” Argroww returned a stare that held as much threat as that which Avarn was trying to convey, he’d met his type many times before and he was sure he’d meet them again. “Now stay close young Talan, I do not disbelieve that Professor Avarn will do his best to get you back, I’ll need you to be honest with me about why too, although I have my suspicions.” Just then Private Kelsing’s communicator beeped, she tapped it and spoke briefly. “Argroww, the final Shuttle from the surface has docked with the Spire, we’re to board it and it’ll take us and the remaining passengers over to the S.S. Wolvaris, the Captain is eager to get going I’m told, so she’ll start moving as soon as this shuttle has dropped us off.” With that said the announcement system then broadcast it’s message: CAN ALL PASSENGER FOR THE S.S. WOLVARIS PLEASE MAKE THEIR WAY TO DOCKING BAY 8, ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR BOARDING PASSES READY! Argroww then followed Private Kelsing to the docking bay, instructing Talan to walk in front of him, but behind the Private, he idly wondered if the boy was old enough, or perhaps even calm enough to find the Private’s form pleasing although felt certain that she was both too professional and found Talan too young to share any interest the boy may have. He then snorted at the insignificance of his thought to the current situation. Talan walked in between the pair and his heart was hammering in his chest. Avarn would not let this go easily and he had no doubt there would be another run in with the Professor. He wondered what would happen when they got to docking bay 8' he did not have a boarding pass after all....would he be left behind? He glanced back to the Wolvian who seemed deep in thought. "What do Wolvian's call their fathers?" He asked simply, after all he had been referred to as a son. He looked further back to where Avarn stood briefly watching them leave before turning and stalking towards the door to rejoin his ship. He knew the Professor was furious at losing him, and he had knew the guards would suffer for letting him get off The Haven. He turned his eyes back front to follow Kelsing's form in the uniform, she was pretty, but he wasn't ready for any of that right now. His mother said he would know when it was time for courting. |

Argroww was momentarily taken back by the question, whilst he'd fostered before, he'd never been asked that. "Actually there is no word in the Wolvian tongue for 'father', mother, elder, male, brother, sister, but not father. Due to our mating habits it is far more likely that a WOlvian pup will never know who fathered them, in many cases even the mother doesn't know." The discussion continued as they walked through mostly very sterile corridors, The Spire was not built to look good, but to perform a function. They were surrounded by a mixture of people and races, most deep in discussion about which-ever subject interested them, these were no idle passengers subject to gossip, for the most part the curious event between Argroww and Professor Avarn was not discussed. In truth Argroww had done what he did in haste, part of him had been tempted to rip the professors head off, but that would have created a scene that he may have struggled to get out of, taking on this boy, who may be a Pyromancer, a form of elemental magick that still baffled researchers even now, the magick had weakened of course, like many others, the carrier not being as volatile as Pyrmonancers had once been, but still, it was a relatively powerful magic and was still known for it's unpredictability, he would have to take precautions. They arrived at the shuttle, which already had about 500 passengers on board, it was no small vessel, but only designed for carrying people from the Worlde's surface to the spacestations or any orbiting stellar vessels. Private Kelsing of course boarded without issue as did Argroww who was clearly recognised, when Talan paused as the passes of other passengers were checked Argroww looked at him and simply said "What are you waiting for, you're with me." Talan entered the shuttle nervously and stood close to a viewport. He could see the Spire and he could see other ships around it attached to docking bays of their own, one of which was The Haven. From the outside the ship did not look so large, but she was equally as cold and clinical looking as her owner. He had hoped he would just be allowed to leave, disappear back to the ground to hole up somewhere until Avarn forgot all about him. Though that was never going to happen now, The Haven had retracted from the docking ring and was preparing to break the atmosphere for space, where it was going to go from there was anybody’s guess. He felt the warmth of the fire in his sudden nervousness but he pushed it well down just like dad had taught him too. It seemed he would not be going back to college again, Serah was due to join him there this year, but his younger sister was now dead, just like mum, just like dad. He bit his lip as tears well up in his eyes at the thought of them, there was not even a proper funeral, just some memorial as there were no bodies left to inter. It was immediately after the funeral that Avarn had come to him with two officials and declared that he was now a ward of the courts as he was only sixteen and he had been assigned to him and would be going to a special facility to help him ‘get over’ the tragic loss of his family. Professor Avarn had told the courts that young men often went off the rails when confronted with such upheavals in their life and he had excellent facilities to ensure this would never happen and that Talan would be well catered for. The facility turned out to be an underground clinical dungeon and he soon learned that rebellion was not tolerated and that Sedi-jects would become his new best friend as would experimental theatres. He showed them nothing, he knew what it was they wanted to see but he had made a promise to his dad that he would not show the fire outside of the family. He felt the sudden lurch of the shuttle as it broke from the docking ring to head to the SS Wolvaris and he turned to look with panicked eyes to the large Wolvian. “I want to go home!” Argroww looked at the boy, he had been looking out of a viewport himself as the shuttle pulled away from the station, it's course set towards the massive object only a relatively short distance away. "I fear that may be difficult to arrange Talan, I am not even sure you have a home at this point, or where it is to get you back there, I am also fairly certain that to return you back there would be to deliver you right back into Professor Avarn's hands." Argroww considered for a while how he might calm the boy down, certainly not in the same ways as Avarn would have, there was an easy answer though. "You know Talan, I knew your ancestor, I met him and even had some involvement in his rehabilitation, does your family carry any stories of your line, I wonder how much of it remains true to what actually happened?" Talan looked at the Wolvian most strangely. “You actually knew my ancestor!” That was a revelation indeed, firstly that the Wolvian knew him and secondly that made him several thousand years old…..his adopted father was ancient! He mused over what he knew about Talanis Richelon the elder, he knew that he carried a shortened version of his name. His father had told him that Talanis had been one of the most powerful Pyromancers in the Worlde, though they were far and few between. “I know that he was a very powerful Pyromancer and that he was enslaved when he was eighteen years old to a place where they made men fight against each other for the pleasure and viewing of others.” He began quietly. “In that place he met those he would fight alongside in later battles against the hoardes of the Dark Underlord prior to the First Rising, he became a Commander in the army you know and was a very powerful tool that aided the forces of good.” He was reciting what his father had told him, but he had done some digging of his own and found out a little more when he stayed late at the college archives. “He had a best friend called Goldeneyes and he was mentored by a Wolvian called Iron Claw also known as Elroug, it was Iron Claw that helped him to gain control over his powers. Talanis was also known as Blaze you know, not many people know that, he also had a Phoenix tattoo across his back…my dad did, so did his dad…so do I.” He said shyly. “Kind of a family thing.” He also knew a little about the dark time, when Talan had lost control and almost killed those he cared about. “The man that owned them all was not happy at the uprising that freed the slaves from his grasp, he was obsessed in holding Talanis and stole him away. He used powerful drugs on him that suppressed his will and supplanted it with his own…he apparently did bad things to Talanis, I understand that he took his pleasure with him, forced him to love him….in the end he tried to make him kill his friends who came to rescue him. It was Goldeneyes that saved Iron Claw from the fire, an unseen side effect of being saved by it himself.” He stared down at the floor, embarrassed by some parts of the tale. “It was known he fathered a child with a woman called Sita, hence my family line….but it was rumoured that he loved another…but I don’t know much about that….but I do know he levelled a dark stronghold after his friend Goldeneyes was killed, it was said the death of his friend was at the hands of a close ally of the Underlord and he was so grief stricken he killed everyone in there!” He thought he knew quite a bit about Talanis his ancestor but Argroww had actually met him….maybe he knew things that had never been documented. |

"I am surprised, over 2000 years and the story has changed very little, but there is much you don't know. I was not there at the time but Elroug-Agraa, for he did become a true Agraa in time, but it took many battles and some harsh lessons before he truly settled into his role and before that happened your ancestor certainly went through some trials." Argroww sat on one the chairs, it's shape automatically reforming to become more comfortable for a Wolvian's behind, he patted the seat next to him. "Come, sit." He said, then after a pause, he continued. "Talanis Richelon was most certainly a firebrand, you do remind me of him, but it was Elroug who had to deal with him the most, the boy, who bear in mind was actually older than Elroug, but we Wolvians mature faster than Umans. He spent as much time trying to do Elroug justice as he did playing up for him, the fire within Talanis drove him to do things almost specifically to go against authority, and yet Elroug became the father figure in his life, he respected him and wanted to do well for him, and due to that he managed to quite successfully fight the nature of his own magick." Argroww wondered how to broach the subject of Talanis's life, as he wasn't sure what this Talan knew, clearly not as much as the truth from what he said, but then Argroww had never been prone to lying, even after he no longer had to rely on Spiritalk. "Cathiss was indeed a quite nasty person, not the sort to show up for me to directly deal with in my duties to The Great Wolf, but he caught the attention of other powers, specifically a...well I was never sure what she was, but you could describe her as a good fairy I suppose, she spent a lot of her time undoing the damage that Cathiss had done to others, including Goldeneyes, hmm, that was tragic, but I digress, Talanis was captured by Cathiss at a point where the fighters including Elroug thought they were safe, this in itself caused a minor leap in technology back then, Elroug was a very forward thinking Wolvian, but then he'd had a unique past, he worked with blacksmiths and tinkerers for months to come up with a new kind of ocean ship, paddle powered instead of wind powered, even to me it was incredible, the first of it's kind. You see Cathiss sailed away with Talanis, ruining all the other ships at the port before leaving, so Elroug was forced to rebuild...more than that, he was forced to take over the town, to replace it's existing mayor, he became more than the commander of The Annexe, he became a leader of an entire town! Along with Chay-Sa he brought Wolvian ways to a town made up of non-wolvians, it was not entirely succesful, there was a lot of fighting and riots, but this was mostly due to the local militia being in Cathiss's pocket, the populace themselves were ready for a change in leadership for the most part, although perhaps not from Elroug. By the time this was all done and the rescue attempt made Cathiss had change Talan into something quite different, but Cathiss hadn't reckoned on the love that existed between Goldeneyes and Talan, in fact even Goldeneyes hadn't been sure at that point, he threw himself in front of Elroug fully believing he was going to die, only to find that the fire didn't affect him at all!" Argroww wondered if he'd dropped enough of a hint there, he paused in his retelling, which was also a good opportunity to get a drink as a waiter moved around offering various drinks and snacks to the occupants of the shuttle. |

Talan had made himself comfortable near the Wolvian as he elaborated on his ancestor. He had not known that Iron Claw had become a leader of a town and the story had held him entranced. Then came the part about Goldeneyes saving their Wolvian leader from Talan and the true nature of their relationship was revealed. "Oh." He said quietly. He was worldely enough to understand that there were different types of relationships and love but he had not known that Talan took his pleasure with men and women. He had always believed the friendship with the Golden Elf to be platonic. "They were lovers, I did not know that." Then came the stuff about Cathiss, he did not know much about the man, but it was certainly very interesting. "Why did Cathiss want Talan so much?" He asked. "And how was Goldeneyes immune to the fire? How was that even possible?" |

"A side effect of Pyromancy, or rather it used to be before magick across the Worlde weakened, was that it enhanced certain aspects of people, fired them up you could say. Certain traits would become stronger. Cathiss desired to own things and people, to have ultimate power over them, and take his pleasure with them, usually painfully, Talan only made that even worse and became the focus of his desire, the sole focus. Look at the situation, Cathiss lost his entire revenue, all of the fighters when Elroug took over, he didn't care, all he wanted was your ancestor, it consumed him completely and utterly with only his half-brother keeping any semblance of sanity in the man...well that is until Talan's Pyromancy started affecting Lucien too." Argroww offered a snack to Talan that he'd got from the waiter, he understood it was popular with children, but didn't know exactly what it was. "Now, Goldeneyes, that was something quite different and very unusual in itself, I've not heard of it before, or since happening with any Pyromancer. Early in Talanis's time at The Annexe Goldeneyes was poisoned by a vengeful woman called Sukie, although she changed her ways later, Talanis employed his arts to almost literally burn the poison out of Goldeneyes, a very risky thing to do and quite a show of power by the boy who at that time still hadn't learned to control his power well. Somehow Goldeneyes not only survived, but gained a certain amount of immunity to fire and complete immunity to any act of pyromancy Talanis carried out, although unfortunately jealousy and other quite normal things sometimes came between them two." He said with a snort. |

Talan took the snack, it was a sweet pastry, his mother had often bought them for him and his sister as a treat, he felt a brief pang of pain at their loss. "I did not know the fire could do that to someone, totally consume them in that way. I understand that Cathiss did some terrible things to Talanis, that he drugged him with something, forced him to love him...it sounds very terrible." He said inbetween nibbling the pastry. "He saved Goldeneyes with the fire and it made him immune then...never heard about that from my dad." He considered the intricacies of what was likely to be a volatile relationship between the Elf and Uman, he wondered who the jealous party had been. He had never been in love with anyone not even at college, it was a hard thing to imagine the intensity of the relationship, the ups and downs. "Did yew ever meet any of the others like Allegro or Thestro?" He asked remembering the names of the others that had fought alongside his ancestor. "And do you know who it was that killed Goldeneyes? Did Talan really burn a whole stronghold on his own?" |

Talan shifted in his seat as he waited to listen to the rest of the tale, though the movement against the chair caused him to wince a little. Another gift from Avarn after particularly annoying him a few weeks past. The Professor had tried everything he could think of to make him display the fire and he was still not forthcoming. Talan was sticking doggedly to the promise he made his father not to show the fire to outsiders. He had endured some very painful and humiliating tests but he remained focussed, his will to defy Avarn strengthening by the minute. The man had left the cold white clinical room, his face flushed with anger and returned with a thin wooden rod and two guards. He ordered the guards to strip him from the waist down and he was then held over the examination table. Avarn had called him stubborn and defiant, and he did not deny the stubborn part. Dad had always said he was as stubborn as a mule and then some. The Professor had decided that a good old fashioned thrashing might bring forth the fire, if only to protect Talan from the rod. The boy had never been beaten in his life, not by his father, not by his mother, he had always been good, polite and helpful...Professor Avarn had another view on that. The first blow caught him across the back of the thighs and it hurt, enough to make him gasp sharply. Avarn continued to bring the rod down with deadly efficiency, landing anywhere from the small of Talan's back to the backs of his thighs and it hurt so very much. Still Talan did not do as he asked....enraged the Professor beat him so hard, he eventually passed out with the pain. He woke apparently a full day later on his stomach when a intern was bathing his sore areas and applying some sort of antiseptic. It was then he decided to make plans to escape the facility and he did, the ground based one...and ended up on the The Haven...and now here. He looked to the Wolvian and gave a brief smile. "Come on.....more story." |

Argroww tried to recall back, when he'd met Talanis many things had changed and what he knew mostly came from Elroug. "No, I'd not met them, Allegro I understand became a general, Thestro I do not recall being mentioned so much. But yes, he destroyed an entire stronghold. During his better days one of the forces of darkness decided to capture Sita and torture her to gain control of him, a very bad idea. As I understand it she was found alive, but a very changed woman, the torture was not just physical, his allies got her out of the stronghold and once he believed that they'd had enough time he let rip with every bit of power he had, it literally took him years before he could use his Magick again, but what a display of power it had been, a massive stronghold designed to keep entire armies out, destroyed by one man!" Argroww then chuckled. "Y'know long after they'd resolved all their issues Goldeneyes and Talanis would still play with Elroug, they'd play fight to make him think they'd fallen out again just to get a reaction out of him, much like myself he was a very serious minded Wolvian, but then he had a lot on his mind almost constantly." |

Talan had listened enthralled, he had finished the pastry and his stomach had stopped growling, now he just felt very tired. The adrenalin of his escape had worn off and he felt exhausted. "So.....they liked to tease Elroug-Agraa......but who killed Goldeneyes? Was Talan devastated, the version I heard said he was...because he lost his friend. But it was a lover he lost, it must of hurt him deeply." He yawned, covering his mouth politely. He shuffled in the seat again trying to get comfortable, the healing marks were hurting a bit, but he would not discuss that here and now. Perhaps he could sneak to the mediquarter on the Wolvaris and get something for the pain. Avarn had looked so satisfied the next time he saw him after the beating, his arms folded across his chest, smirking. He had said he thought discipline was what was needed and if Talan did not cooperate he would become further acquainted with the cane. He shook the memory away, his eyes feeling heavily. "Did you meet Goldeneyes....you must have...,what was he like? Did Elroug-Agraa love Talan like a son?" He asked sleepily. |

Argroww looked at Talan and noted that he was looking more than a little sleepy, with only Argroww's tales and his interest in them keeping him awake and even that was starting to fail. "Steward, how much further till we reach the Wolvaris?" The nearby female steward turned from what she'd been doing and approached the Wolvian Diplomat. "It will be another hour Sir till we reach the docking bay, the offloading will take a further hour, but we're still waiting on a hospital ship, The Wolvaris needs 3 hospital Clippers in case of emergency, we have 2 but there's been an issue with the 3rd, so we've put a call out for another nearby Clipper." So at least 2 hours before they were even properly on board the Wolvaris, let alone till they'd reached their quarters. "Yes, I met Goldeneyes, but by the time I'd met him he'd been through quite a lot, he was acting as Elroug's second-in-command of the town they'd gained control of, unfortunately that was also shortly before he died. By then no, Elroug did not see Talanis as a son, nor do I think he ever did and for a time Talanis may have seen Elroug as a father for a time, but what Cathiss did took a lot of repairing and he was never the same person afterwards, much grown, much more determined to never allow anyone to 'rule' over him, including a father figure. What perhaps is saddest is that aside from his own children Talanis outlived them all, he died of old age, and not the way that Pyromancers tended to go in those times, but he did pass down through his line ways and techniques of controlling the Pyromancy, making it more stable, which I suspect is why you are here today." |

Talan shivered as he was only dressed in the hospital scrubs he had been wearing on The Haven and he was barefooted. He huddled up on the chair and looked to the Wolvian. "What should I call you?" He asked softly, changing the subject from the talk of Pyromancy. "Argroww? Argroww Roh-Gah? Sir? Father? Dad?" He guessed he needed to call him something after all he had been formally adopted by him. What exactly was he to the Wolvian.....Son? Boy? Talan? Child? It was a strange turn of events, he had meant to escape back to where he lived with his mum and dad and Serah. He guessed the house must still be there, he could have hidden for a bit to make sure that Avarn got bored of looking for him and then lived there again, gone back to college....but it seemed that plan was out of the window. He was now the adopted son of a Wolvian Diplomat about to set out on a very large starship to who knew where. At the moment he felt very lost and alone, despite all the people that were currently around him he had never felt so isolated, everything he had knew and loved were gone. Dad was not there any more to help him with his studies, Mum was not there to make sure he ate, leaving him a plate of cookies on his desk along with some milk when his head was stuck in a book. Serah was not there to tease him about being all work and no play....tease him about how he paid attention to nothing and that he had missed some girl or other looking at him. He swallowed, a lump in his throat, now he had time to think about it and not how he was going to survive the next test Avarn had for him it all come flooding back. "I miss my family." He whispered, trying not to cry. |

From a few seats away, a petite woman in her mid thirties sat with a girl of about the same age as Talan. The woman had long reddish brown hair tied in a smart plait and she wore expensive civilian clothes, though they had seen better days. Her eyes were gentle and aquamarine in colour and her name was Aryn Fehran. The girl was small like the woman, with a spill of long blonde hair and the same blue/green eye colouring. Her clothes were just as expensive looking as the woman's but kept in a good state of repair. "Look Aislin." The woman said to the girl. "I think that Wolvian is the high ranking diplomat we read about....Argroww is it?" She prompted trying to engage the girl in conversation. "Guess so Mom....stop looking they will think yew are weird!" The girl whispered anxiously. "I wonder who the boy is? If I did not know better I would say he is wearing hospital scrubs."Aryn said thoughtfully. "He looks your age Aislin, perhaps he might be joining the classes on board...I never turn a student away!" Aislin took a quick look towards the boy curled up in the seat, well he wasn't Wolvian that was for sure so not related to the great creature next to him. He was dressed in hospital scrubs which was undoubtedly odd but he was a looker for sure, may be classes might brighten up after all. "We should go and introduce ourselves and I can ask about classes....and you could do with making a friend Linny, none of your old friends are on board." The girl closed her eyes, was her mother out to embarrass her before they had even stepped foot on board the Wolvaris? "Mum they look like they are having a private moment....leave it!" She pleaded, opening her eyes. It was too late, her hand was grasped and she was pulled across the shuttle towards them, her mother bustling authoritatively through the crowds towards the pair. The small woman stood in front of where the Wolvian was sat and smiled broadly. "Hello...my name is Aryn Fehran, I will be teaching on board the Wolvaris, this is my daughter Aislin. I could not help but notice this young man, is he with you?....Will he be coming to classes?" She paused for a breath. Aislin wanted the deck of the ship to swallow her up, from behind her mum she mouthed something to Talan, only he would see. "Sorry!" Edited by Talan, Sep 15 2014, 08:28 PM.

"Well that is an easy question to answer Talan, you may call me Argroww, for it is my name." He said with a grin that dropped shortly after as he noticed the boy shiver and display a facial expression he recognized as being the beginning of tears. he figured the boy old enough to not be of the age where tears were likely, but he'd been through much, he could tell that from how murky the boy's spirit was, he would have to ask him about that later. It was shortly after that that they were approached by a young Uman woman (although pretty much everyone who Argroww met was young to him) who had in tow a younger Uman girl, he estimated her to be of the same rough age as Talan and curiously became conscious himself that he'd left Talan in a hospital gown, not that he'd had the time to do anything about that situation, nor would he until they arrived on the Wolvaris correctly. "Well met Aryn and Aislin, I see you know me already, this is Talan, and yes I hope to enrol him into the Wolvaris's schooling system, we are staying in the Alpha residential block will you be teaching there?" Given the current population of the Wolvaris he had found it quite curious that the female had assumed that she'd be teaching Talan, mind you the boy fit the characteristics that Argroww knew to be handsome for an Uman so that may explain a few things. "Young Aislin, worry not, there is nothing to be embarrassed about, for this is what parents do on a regular basis to their children." he said, catching her mouthed word, and the deep tone of her spirit that indicated that she felt extremely embarrassed, but also a little curious herself, even if she may not be willing to admit it. |

Talan straightened and tried to put some semblance of order to his appearance, but failed miserably. His face reddened and he managed an acutely shy and equally embarrassed smile to Aislin. "Hi....I am Talan...as Argroww said." The girl was pretty, he tried hard to notice that remembering that sorts of things that Serah used to tease him about. "I hope that I might be taking classes with yew Ms Fehran." He said politely, always so very courteous as he had been bought up. He did not really know anything else that he might say, he did not know anything about the Wolvaris and he did not know much about his new 'dad' apart from the fact he wanted to be called Argroww. |

Aryn beamed. "Well we are in Alpha block too....so I assume I will be teaching there....isn't that good Linny!" She said enthusiastically. "I am sure that Talan will enjoy the classes I have to offer, I specialise in History, but we cover a diverse range of subjects. Perhaps yew might like to come and give a lecture one day Diplomat Argroww I am sure that the students would find it very interesting." Aislin edged round her mother to sit on the edge of the seat that Talan occupied. "I am sorry about her." She whispered. "What is it with parents they can really show yew up huh." Aryn turned to glared at her daughter. "I heard that young lady!" She turned back to Argroww. "If yew need any help in finding Talan some uniform and books for classes I am sure that I can be of assistance." She smiled. "He seems a little unusually dressed for someone of his age." |
