By logging in you enter a Sci-Fi themed collaborative writing game in which you are invited to create a character (or 2) and exercise your imagination in conjunction with other writers to create a series of stories based upon a background that I (Dagiris) have started (Much inspired by www.worldearcane.com which is currently inactive) and that you as players and writers will expand upon and adapt over time. The setting is a pocket universe entirely separate from our own, it exists in a Null Space where galaxies do not exist, only isolated star systems. Each star system is surrounded by a sphere which gives the sentient population within the illusion that they are in a "normal" area of space, their telescopes and sensors will see stars and galaxies beyond the confines of their own star system, but until they unlock the truth, then any attempt to travel beyond their star system will result getting lost in the Null Space, forever unable to to return. Elroug, then known as Iron Claw to pretty much everyone around him barring Chay-Sa who refused to call him anything else but Elroug, had been sitting in the planning office on the day that Talanis was taken, a decision he greatly regretted. Sita, Goldeneyes, Bull and Blaze (later to be known once again as Talanis) had suggested he come, to join the revelry in the emptying of the main house. The battle had gone far too easy, although Elroug had suspected that it would, his highly trained Annex guards against the mostly lazy and ineffective House guard. They had been bullies, little more, their power came through fear and that 1 on 1 they could manage most situations, but faced with an organised army, no chance, none at all. The House guard had all either been slain or fled, some to the port town nearby, some into the wilds, their chance of survival varied he had to admit. The House was ransacked by his men, everything of value being taken back to the Annex to be examined, valued, if it could be used it would be kept, if not, sold. Only problem was that the port town of Kentaru was somewhat in Cathiss's pocket and his financials went much further than just the Annex, Elroug knew that he had several other houses dotted around all the continents, but hopefully he'd been driven away for good. he had plans for the space where the house was, he would knock it down to build a proper fort rather than the improvised things that the Annex was, which would be turned into a proper training ground dedicated to training the best warriors, but also a sense of honour and duty that Cathiss could never appreciate. It was during that musing that Sita came in, her face red from tears, her body showing signs of extreme exertion...more than that, she'd fought someone. he knew the town was corrupt but he never thought that the militia would attack his people, his money was no different to Cathiss's, but no, that wasn't the reason. In burst of tears and breath she explained how Bull had lead Blaze away, they'd thought nothing of it, but when the pair didn't arrive in the tavern in the time expected Goldeneyes and Sita had sought them out, only luck took them to the docks first to find Blaze going over the side of one of the jetties, clearly out for the count. Cathiss and Bull were still on the jetty and Lucien in the row boat, all the other boat had been sunk which meant time was critical. Sita tackled Cathiss, she managed to injure him, but she wasn't sure how bad, Goldeneyes however was injured pretty severely, he'd fought Bull and killed him, but not before the man had got in a few blows of his own. Then something even worse happened, as the boat with Cathiss, Blaze and Lucien slipped away, all but one of the seaworthy ships exploded, some of the explosions only big enough to rip holes in the hulls, but they were sunk, not a single boat or ships left to mount a rescue, the lord of Kentaru must have been in on it too as even the dockyard was scuppered, no longer fit for the purpose of building ships, it would be months before they could give chase, even assuming they knew where Cathiss was heading! The news had stunned Elroug, he was left without words as Sita fell into his arms sobbing, they had lost Blaze and almost every way possible barring a land excursion of giving chase. Worse than that, he still had the Prince to deal with who was also expecting to claim what he believed was his. |

The following day came too soon. Elroug checked in on Goldeneyes, he had sustained a nasty wound, but not one he wouldn't recover from, although the physician had to keep him sedated, else he tried to get up wanting to go find Blaze, usually undoing any repair work that had already been done. He stood upon the walls of the Annex looking at the town, still smoking from the explosions, his excellent hearing picking out the screams and shouts of a populace under an unfair martial ruling, the lord of the town taking out his irritation upon his own taxpayers, his militia serving him utterly, much like Cathiss's own house guard. Bullies mostly, picked for their desire to control others, usually through cruelty. He then looked back at the training ground, filled with people training, those who didn't want to fight were passing out water or food as required, or seeing to injuries. The co-operation between his charges pleased him, he spotted a new face though, she was deep in discussion with Chay-Sa, an elf. He watched as the two sparred, matching move for move in the combat style that till now had been unique to Chay-Sa, she had started training others, some had even shown considerable promise but were far from being at Chay-Sa's skill. It was good progress, next he spoke to Tomas, the captain of the Annex guard, the town concerned him, it was their only access to a shipyard even if it was damaged. What would be involved he asked, Tomas advised the only answer was to take the town itself, but they weren't ready, not the Annex guard on their own, not even with the fighters, they'd need the whole lot of the trainees sufficiently skilled, armoured and armed to be with a chance of winning, even then it would be tricky. It was then Elroug decided he'd need more than just the Annex. The house still had the servant and other staff living in it, although with Cathiss gone and the house guard they were mostly at a loss of what to do, well he'd give them something to do, train! More than that, he'd need the populace of Kentaru...what was he suggesting? to take over the town, to rule it. He'd never set out to command the Annex, not like this, but he was and all looked to him for answers now. He chose a select few of the former Annex slaves and commanded that they journey to the town, speak with family and friends there, find out how people felt, see if they would welcome a new ruler, and what they would do to make sure that would happen. |

A month later.... Elroug was in discussion in the planning room with Tomas and his generals, specially picked members of the Annex who he felt fit to lead, Chay-Sa, Goldeneyes, Allegro and Thestro. Whilst they'd had their differences to start the change in focus since Blaze's kidnapping seemed to have charged them with new energy to get things done. Goldeneyes had been the most changed, determined like he'd never been before he was no longer the impetuous and fickle former pleasure slave, although no less eager to get the rescue into action. The populace of Kentaru had been primed, for a couple of weeks light leather armour and weapons has been smuggled in to the houses of those willing to join in and the Annex army had been organised, some whilst skilled in combat lacked the desire to kill. Sita had been just such a person, she'd learned an adapted form of the Unglen-On-Rou from Ravenette, curiously finding it easier to learn from the elf than from Chay-Sa. Unfortunately they'd also learned that she did not have the killing streak in her, so instead she was assigned to the medics to help them and to protect them which seemed to sit better on the girls mind. Ravenette concerned him, she was of a split personality, her nightly self being some form of vampire and her day self being completely unaware of what her night self did, however in both states she turned out to be quite reasonable and proved herself quite capable at many things, enough so that some volunteered themselves for her to feed from. Allegro even attempted in his own fashion to bed her, but was politely rebuked, if Elroug was of any judge she was grieving, but refused to speak of it to anyone. The meeting held in that planning room outlined the need to take the town as soon as possible, travelling merchants had spoken of Prince Aigiris gathering his own army, presumably to take Blaze by force believing him still to be at the Annex, they needed to fully take the town before the Prince arrived, more than that, they needed to re-enforce it. Kentaru was a port town and was not built with defense in mind. Elroug had plans for that though, already drawn up and partially built, the cut logs in place in the arena ready to be transported for a palisade to be built, or rather the start of one. The takeover would be proceeded by lauching a single firework, this would signal the populace to arm themselves to be ready, when they then heard the attack start they would join in, coming in behind the town militia. Those that surrendered would be spared, everyone else would have to die. Elroug could not afford to let anyone who might challenge his plans live now. |

The following day the battle started, preceded as planned by the firework. It happened at dawn, just as the guard posts were changing, whilst this may have been seen as a mistake as it meant more guard were out Elroug had found that it was also when they were least attentive to what was going on around them. His forces from the Annex snuck in, moving quietly though undergrowth, whilst the town guards tried to figure out what the firework was all about the attack started. They rushed in, not a single noise made, by the time the town guard could react the were already set upon, by the time they could fight back nearly half the town's populace were armed, armoured and also engaged with a town militia that rapidly realised that it was far underpowered for this kind of event. The battle was surprisingly short and had fewer deaths than Elroug had anticipated. The difficult part came to the Lord himself who refused to give up and had fortified his location. He hadn't however bet on a skilled team of warriors lead by Chay-Sa and Ravenette, the Wolvian martial practices gave them considerable advantage allowing them easy access into the tower, defeat the guards on the inside and to open it for Elroug. The Wolvian Commander was surprised when the Lord showed a certain strength of character by not running, but invoking the right of combat, Elroug showed mercy and made the end swift, his hefty broadsword swinging through the man's neck in a single swipe. It wasn't a sporting death, but Elroug was done with such things, the roar of the arena audience no longer appealing to him, no longer Cathiss's dog, he turned to the warriors around him about to ask who would rule the town. But they were all on their knees, barring the warriors lead by Chay-Sa, they would bow to no-one, it was not part of the Wolvian way it seemed, lessons Elroug still hadn't learned himself even though he was a Wolvian. Allegro was the first one to speak, some simple words that changed everything "What now My Liege?" |

The following day saw an argument between the new king and one of his generals. "But surely we have something? we've taken the town, there's a port, there must be a boat somewhere, what if it was patched up?" Shouted the golden haired elf "It's not that simple Goldeneyes and you know it, we don't know where they have gone or what they have there, Cathiss and Lucien might have an entire army at their command, a fortress, or may be hidden underground. Cathiss revealed to me many of his other homes and estates and they are many, some small, some large, many hard to get into, or out of if he so chose and it will take us a long time to track them all down and even then we must be prepared." Elroug responded "You just don't care enough for him!" Goldeneyes retorted. "Don't go there Goldeneyes, how much did we risk by this? and do you think I can just up and leave these people without any guidance? their Lord is slain by my hand, Chay-Sa tells me that means I have earned my right to rule them and rule them I must, it is a Wolvian way and it makes sense." "You are not more a Wolvian than I am really, what does she know of ruling anyone, or of responsibilities, she doesn't even dress properly!" Which was true, Whilst attempts had been made to get Chay-Sa to dress in a more civil fashion all they're really achieved was to get her to wear a better quality of cloth, she still wore it more than a little provocatively, but insisted it was to aid her freedom of movement. "Wolvian clans have been very succesful in how they manage themselves, what they do won't work here, but that doesn't make her advice any less sensible, I cannot just up and go, I need to make sure these people are safe and secure, especially as I know Prince Aigiris will be coming and his desire for Blaze matches Cathiss's and perhaps your own, so I need you to stay focused, because how you feel and what you know is important to us." "Bah!" Goldeneyes responded and stormed off, knowing Elroug was right. Shortly afterwards Elroug started seeing representatives of the town, carpenters, masons, workers, even sailors who with their ships destroyed had nothing to do, and nowhere to go, their presence was a drain on the towns food supply, one that seemed disastrously short and yet the Lord had clearly had plenty of food. Sita, Chay-Sa and some of the others had been digging around the tower and discovered that there was a considerable stock of food here revealing that the Lord had been heavily taxing his people, a stufy of the ledger also showed that much of the gain of the town and it's surrounding arable farmland has mostly gone towards filling the Lords coffers and paying for his needs, or in some cases, Cathiss's. This would have to stop, but would displease many of the Barons and Earls that looked to the Lord for their own expensive tastes, so much to do and so little time for Elroug knew he'd need to fund a massive operation on the docklands, this conveniently lead to a meeting with a man named Kedren who was one of the master builders at the Dockyard. "So, Master Kedren, what brings you to me?" Elroug said, standing in the hall of the tower, preferring not to sit on the gaudy looking throne. "I hear your our master now?" he responded giving no deferential treatment, "I want to know what you plan for my men and the Docks, most of the cities income comes from the boat built here, but we cannot do that anymore." "I know, and I plan on rebuilding the docks as soon as this domains territory is correctly managed, draw me up a list of everything you need, and what you plan to do, then we shall see." This left the man baffled, as he realised he'd just been told that what-ever he needed, was his, but purely based upon what else could be managed, which made a huge difference to the usual "just get on with it, but cheaply!" that he got off the previous Lord. |

2 months later..... The Prince's arrival had taken longer than Elroug had expected, but come it had, Aigiris turned up outside Kentura with a fairly large army, but no siege engines for he had not expected to need them, what he found was a fairly well fortified town, the original palisades that Elroug had planned now replaced by high walls of stone, mostly built from the same stone that had made up the Annex which now was mostly a de-constructed heap of rubble. The same door mechanism however now blocked the Prince, none of the town being accessible to his men without significant loss before they could inflict any losses to the town's militia. After some debate the prince was finally admitted, on his own, to meet with Elroug. What he found surprised him, the Lord's throne room had been converted into a court, the gaudy throne replaced with a simple wooden stool more suitable to a Wolvian's posterior, in a semi-circle to either side was a series of other seats occupied by representatives of both the town's tradesmen and the local regions farms. "Where is he?" The prince asked, seemingly unconcerned that with a single blow his life would be ended. In fact Elroug could see the same desperation in the Prince that afflicted Goldeneyes, except the elf had been able to gain control over it, understand his own desire and find ways to calm himself down, mostly with help from friends, Sita perhaps the most, their shared love of Blaze giving them a commonality. "He is not here Prince Aigiris, nor am I hiding him. I am afraid that Cathiss has betrayed you." Elroug stated "But I paid for him!, Blaze is mine!" The prince responded "Demand all you like, I can do nothing, but we make efforts to to get him back Prince Aigiris." "Efforts? like what?" The prince asked, his desire for the Pyromancer being so great he cared not that the town was no longer under the former Lord's control. Elgroug pointed, stood and walked to a window, the Prince stood next to him, almost jittery in his destroyed anticipation, tiny next to the hulking Wolvian and looked to where Elroug was pointing, out at a dockyard that was considerably larger than the Prince recalled and already populated by several large and smaller ships, but they were different, yes they had sails, but also large....water wheels? "What?" was all he managed to say. "A new idea, ships capable of sailing without wind, those large paddles are powered by oarsmen, the mechanism inside compensates so you only need a team of 6 people to power them, the rest are just normal crew. But I need more, crew, resources, builders, with them I may be able to find Blaze much faster." Elroug said. The Prince thought for a while and in his desire to have the young Pyromancer he could only say one thing "Then you shall have it." |

3 months later.... The rebuild of Kentaru had gone from strength to strength with the funds and resources provided by Prince Aigiris, who was now locked in a very comfortable room in the keep, the desire for Blaze having driven him completely insane. It had been fortunate for Elroug that he had met with and established a rapport with his advisors before that happened, for whilst they would not give Elroug Aigiris's kingdom they did agree to continue helping the Wolvian king in the hope that securing Blaze would result in a cure for their prince. Kentaru now had a sizeable fleet of a variety of vessels, some of which were already scouring the seas for any sign that may have been left by Cathiss and Lucian, it was a tough task that many of the sailors employed felt was a waste of time, but they were getting paid well for it and were getting to use ships that moved faster than anything else on the seas. It was only a couple of weeks later that one of the scouting ships returned, a port town had reported the arrival of a vessel with occupants matching Lucien and Cathiss's description, they'd been bribed not to say anything, it had been fortunate that Chay-Sa had been on that vessel, her spiritual powers had picked up that the port authority were holding something back. The next day the 4 biggest paddle-ships were outfitted and filled with a veritable army of people ready to get Blaze back, it was the time that Elroug had been building towards. What concerned him however were the troubling reports he was getting from all corners of the world that suggest that there may be bigger things to worry about than a kidnapped Pyromancer. |
