| Welcome to A Worlde Apart. We hope you enjoy your visit. By logging in you enter a Sci-Fi themed collaborative writing game in which you are invited to create a character (or 2) and exercise your imagination in conjunction with other writers to create a series of stories based upon a background that I (Dagiris) have started (Much inspired by www.worldearcane.com which is currently inactive) and that you as players and writers will expand upon and adapt over time. The setting is a pocket universe entirely separate from our own, it exists in a Null Space where galaxies do not exist, only isolated star systems. Each star system is surrounded by a sphere which gives the sentient population within the illusion that they are in a "normal" area of space, their telescopes and sensors will see stars and galaxies beyond the confines of their own star system, but until they unlock the truth, then any attempt to travel beyond their star system will result getting lost in the Null Space, forever unable to to return. Zan followed Trass to the Spire right up to Bay 7 and they looked out of the docking window at 'The Linquaras' and Zan's heart fell it was a in a terrible way, he was lucky if it was going to get him anywhere. The Renauss had been stripped down on the outside and it was likely it had been picked clean within. "You were going to charge me one million credits for this pile of junk!" He said quietly to Trass. The older man grinned. "It is a ship and it can break atmosphere, took it out myself a couple of times, she doesn't look much but she will hold together....let us go onboard." They left the small chamber and went down the short corridor that connected 'The Linquaras' to The Spire. Linny had hid herself behind a pile of crates as the two men had gone into the observation chamber, her heart was pounding in her chest so loudly she was afraid someone might here it and find her. She heard voices leave and then Salise and the man went down a corridor and through a port that looked like it led them onto a ship. Zan went to the cockpit of the Renauss, there were patched over command areas where the weapons and other consoles should have been, the pilots seats were ripped and worn. His heart was sinking by the minute, how could he ever get anywhere in this thing, it was likely to vent air from all the likely cracks in it. The holds were bare, except for a few large boxes, empty holding nothing, not even parts. He wandered back to the cockpit and ran a finger over the controls. "I'll give you one vial for this travesty of a ship!" He said coolly to Trass. Trass looked affronted. "She is a good ship. Will get you at least to Telorthus Four I reckon. Both Vials!" While both men were in the cockpit arguing, Linny slowly edged her way down to the hold, she had to find somewhere to hide, he could not take off without her. She glanced about quickly and saw the large empty boxes the men had looked at only moments before their negotiations. She could easily fit in one of those, but if he came down here to clear them off she would be going nowhere! She headed quickly over to the large storage compartments, usually for small cargo, but still big enough for her to hide in. She slipped inside one and wrinkled her nose.....it smelled musty in here like she imagined the boys locker room at school . She put a hand over her mouth....not that Talan ever smelled bad....he always used that stuff she had picked out on that very first shopping trip aboard 'The Wolvaris'. The memory made her heart ache, and she thought of the kisses they shared on the beach in the mouth of the cave....and that made her eyes well with tears....she loved him and she was so afraid for him. "One Vial.....if I get as far as Telorthus Four then I will send the other to you!" Zan snapped. Caron Trass narrowed his eyes, this laddie was shrewd and seemed to know his way about a ship, he was right the Renauss was not in great shape, but beggars could not be choosers in his book. "How do I know you will keep yer word?" Zan smiled coldly. "You don't......but I will....I have never broken my word.....not ever." "I can track her you know!" Trass growled. "I'll know if you get there, I have friends all over the place!" Zan held out one of the vials and the man snatched it up, it did amuse him no end the value of his blood, to the old school spell casters...to Technomages, even to the drug users of the lower realms. All of them valued Dragon's Blood, it was very hard to come by now, cheap substitutes were in circulation but they were nowhere near as potent. "Fine.....watch the ship, have your friends report.....the other vial will get to you if I make it as far as Four! Now...I need to run pre launch checks...file my flight plan, and other such things.....Good Day Caron Trass." He made it all sound very legitimate, but he had no intention of filing a flight plan, but he did need to see what on this ship run and what didn't and he could not do that with Trass standing over his shoulder. Trass clenched the vial and headed to the exit portal, but he turned back and pointed to Zan. "If you cross me Laddie.....nowhere will be safe for yer!" Zan smiled and turned back to the consoles shaking his head. "Now." He said softly. "Let us see whether we can at least leave The Spire." |

Zan sat patiently in the pilot's seat, firing up what available systems he had on the ship, life support seemed to be functioning which was excellent, the drive was working reasonably, navigation was passable. He was expecting any sort of engagement so not having any available weapons was not an issue. He just needed to get from here to Farpost 2 to see if the rumours he had heard bandied around were true. He knew somehow that Talan was no longer anywhere in their system, the sort of technology the ship that took him had been carrying was too sophisticated for here. The question was where had it taken him to? He had the ship's name, 'Hexen', he knew that Rhylise was with them and it was likely that that ship could penetrate The Void between systems and go back to its Home Worlde. Answer to that question was yes that was likely what happened. Then there was Talan himself, a Pyromancer ...but an unseen and untried one.....he kept it hidden so how had they known to target him specifically? What about that boy made him so special that he was sought out by soldiers from another place? Somehow he knew that Rhylise knew those answers, he was attracted to unusual and powerful things like a moth to a flame....so was Talan powerful? A soft beeping on the console drew him back to the ship's diagnostics or what remained of them. The engine was at capacity with regards to energy...time to go.....only one way to find out if this bucket could actually do anything which was to try and do something. He called into the Spire. "Spire Control, This is 'The Linquaras' we are ready to leave and make our run....please release Spire Clamps." There was a momentary pause and then a sudden clank and a jolt. "Linquaras...this is Spire Control....clamps released.....good journey." Well he had not gone plunging to the Worlde below which was a good sign. "Thank You Spire Control....Linquaras out." Gently he took the controls and backed the ship out of the bay and turned it, altering course to take her up, he felt the ship shudder as if in protest and he swore under his breath. "Keep it together you bucket of bolts!" In the Hold Linny felt the sudden jolt and the hum of the engines and she wondered whether she might have made a mistake, she was scared to death. What if she suffocated in the compartment! Too late to change her mind now, she opened the door a little crack anyway to let in some air. Talan needed her...she could not back out now. |
