| Welcome to A Worlde Apart. We hope you enjoy your visit. By logging in you enter a Sci-Fi themed collaborative writing game in which you are invited to create a character (or 2) and exercise your imagination in conjunction with other writers to create a series of stories based upon a background that I (Dagiris) have started (Much inspired by www.worldearcane.com which is currently inactive) and that you as players and writers will expand upon and adapt over time. The setting is a pocket universe entirely separate from our own, it exists in a Null Space where galaxies do not exist, only isolated star systems. Each star system is surrounded by a sphere which gives the sentient population within the illusion that they are in a "normal" area of space, their telescopes and sensors will see stars and galaxies beyond the confines of their own star system, but until they unlock the truth, then any attempt to travel beyond their star system will result getting lost in the Null Space, forever unable to to return. Already the ship was giving him issues, it has started just after passing Telorthus, the Renauss fought his every command and shuddered and clanked at every movement. Zan swore for the tenth time that hour as he strained to keep the ship on the heading that he wanted. He needed to stop and get an actual engineer to look at this pile of junk. The nearest place was at Telorthus 1, a small orbiting station, it was likely that they would have engineers and he could take on some supplies. He flicked the switch for communications and was hit with static that almost deafened him, gritting his teeth he fiddled with a few controls and it cleared. "Station Sunrise, This is The Linquaras, I need to dock to carry out repairs." He said a little shortly due to his growing irritation with the ship. It was a few moments before he got an answer. "Linquaras, this is Sunrise, you can look to dock at bay 4, we will need the Captain's name and your cargo manifest if any once you dock." Zan took a breath. "Docking Bay 4 Sunrise...over and out." He almost thought he was not going to make it as the tired Renauss lurched into the Bay and finally set down. He had not changed his apperance back from meeting Caron Trass, the older look was more in keeping with the appearance of a likely Captain....he just needed a name. As he walked from the bridge to the cargo hold to leave and make the registration a soft noise in one of the storage areas caught his attention. He moved slowly towards the carrier and yanked opened the door to find Aislin curled up, shivering. "BLOODY UNDERWORLDE AISLIN!" He roared. "What on earth are you doing!" The girl tumbled tearfully out of the confinement and rose, stretching herself. "I want to find Talan with you.....and how is it you have changed.....I know it is you Salise!" Zan shook his head. "No way....your mother must be out of her mind....I take it she doesn't know you are here!" He evaded the question about looking different. Linny ground the tears from her eyes with her fists and glared at him. "Talan will need me, I am coming!" She said obstinately. Zan turned and stalked towards the hatch to enter the station. "Follow me....I need to register this pile of dung.....and you need to send a communication to your mother at least to let her know you are safe!" The hatch hissed opened and he stode down the gangplank to the waiting official, Linny scurried after him resolving that she would not be going home. "I am Captain Salis....this is my sister Aislin.....we have no cargo.....I just need the help of a engineer to look Linquaras over, we are suffering a few issues.....also need some supplies to last to the next station." The man looked them up and down and then looked to the ship. "Captain Salis is it.....that Renauss has seen better days but I am sure an arrangement could be made for an engineer to take a look....same with regards to supplies." Zan nodded....money would be the likely arrangement, which was ok...he had some. "My sister would also like to send a communication home. She didn't tell our mother she was coming along on this run!" The official looked to Linny and then gave Zan a sympathethic grin. "Teenagers huh....pain in backside......sure she can send a communication." Zan looked sideways to Aislin. "Yes...a real pain!" |

Whilst the 'Captain' of the ship was bargaining and consorting with engineers, Linny was led to a comms station which she looked at with nervous trepidation. Her mother was going to furious....no beyond furious....she would be grounded for the rest of her life and probably ordered home. Slowly she punched in the code that would alert her mother to an incoming message. The line was open and she heard her mother's frantic voice on the other end. "Aislin.....Linny....is that you darling....please speak to me!" "Hey Mum." She said quietly. "I am alright......I have gone to look for Talan." There was a long pause and then came the anger she had been expecting. "Aislin where are you? I will send a Peacekeeper to fetch you, you cannot go running off looking for Talan, that is the Diplomat's job and I am sure he is doing everything in his power to find his son!" Linny closed her eyes and swallowed. "Mum....I have to....please understand......I am with Salise.....I snuck onboard his ship, I'll be fine....he found me and said I should call you." Aryn was not taking that for a positive answer. "He is just a child himself....how can he possibly look after you both! WHERE ARE YOU AISLIN!" The girl almost recoiled at her mother's tone and she hit the end transmission button and chewed her lip anxiously. It would take her um a while to have the transmission traced and by then they would have left Sunrise Station. She turned to bump into Salise, who stood with his arms folded across his chest regarding her sternly. "You should go home." He said coolly. Linny pulled herself to as tall as she might and glared at him. "No! Not until we find Talan and bring him with us!" He had to muse a slight smile at her wilful defiance of everyone for the boy she loved. "Fine.....but I will not be the one to get put in a brig on the wrath of your mother when we return!" Linny gave a lopsided smile. "She won't put you in the brig.....skin us both alive maybe!" They walked side by side back down the corridor and to where the engineer was waiting. "Five hundred credits for a look over....then if it needs parts and further work we can go from there." He said tersely. Linny put her hands on her hips and gave him a cool stare. "That's robbery....two hundred for the initial observation......!" She snapped. Zan leaned against the wall and grinned broadly.....thinking to himself that he was going to get an engineer for a reasonable fee. |

The engineer sat in the pilot's seat of The Linquaras and wondered how this piece of junk ever made it anywhere, half the systems were missing, it was patched together in ways that he was sure would likely give in a re-entry into an atmosphere. He finally completed his list and went to find the Captain and his pushy little sister. They were sat in the canteen, he was drinking tea and she was sipping juice and they were not talking much. "Captain Salis." He said breaking the silence. "That ship needs condemning...your navigation system is shot, dampeners are entering critical failure, life support is just about doing that job, there is a whole lot more should I go on!" Zan took a breath. "Can you do anything to fix it?" The engineer shook his head. "Too far gone....but we do have a similar ship here, in better condition, took it off a smuggler few weeks back, you could trade your ship in and with a bit of extra money take this one. I could not let you in all conscience leave on The Linquaras it would be a death sentence, and I won't have your little kid sister's life death on my hands!" Linny scowled, these people here were treating her like a little kid, she was seventeen for the Gods sake! "How much will this new ship cost me?" Zan asked kicking Linny under the table. The engineer shrugged. "You would have to take that up with the Head of Station, I'll let her know you'll be visiting...might be better to leave the kid behind whilst you enter into negotiations, I'll find her some quarters, she can wash up and stuff." Zan nodded. "Very well....let her know I will be visiting." The engineer turned and walked away leaving Linny glaring at her travelling companion. "Why can't I come too?" She questioned. Zan merely smiled. "Because it is likely not going to be appropriate for you to be there." Aislin tilted her head puzzled by that statement. "Not appropriate?" Zan's grin broadened. "You'll understand when you get older Aislin!" |

Maris Satrim sat in her quarters/office and she was bored, this was the worst assignment possible, on this nobody little station that rarely got any interesting visitors. The crew had proved sufficient for a short while to entertain her but that had worn off, far too clingy. There was a soft ping at her door and that was out of the ordinary she rose and called out, brushing her long red hair back from her face. For a Uman she knew she was a good looking woman, with her dark green eyes and creamy skin. Her shape was curvy as it should be, enticing. "Enter." The man that entered took her breath momentarily, tall, well built, his hair was dark, his eyes too. Definitely not a crew member which was good news. "Ma'am....my name is Captain Salis, I understand you were informed of my coming to visit." She vaguely recalled there had been a communication from one of the engineers prattling on about a ship or something, she smiled and gestured with one slender arm towards a seat. "Of course Captain....please do explain what you need from this humble station and I will see what I can do to accommodate you." She said. Zan took a seat, he knew how this visit was going to go, which was why he did not want Linny tagging along. The woman had gone to a cabinet and withdrew a bottle and two glasses. "A drink Captain whilst we talk.....?" He nodded. "Thank you Ma'am.....I understand that you have a Renauss that you might be willing to trade for mine with some extra money?" He said softly. 'So he wants a new ship' Maris thought to herself 'Plenty to bargain with there....it would be an interesting night.' "Ahhh.....you own the decrepit ship in dock 4....Ships are costly things aren't they." She mused. "The Ship I have is somewhat more functional than yours....The Siren...." Zan took the glass she had come to offer him, it was an old cognac, he took a sip and felt it warm smoothly down to his stomach. "Well I need to know how much you would be willing to part with it for?" He said in a soft low voice....seduction was not one of his fortes, but he had obviously done it several times out of necessity. Maris sat closer to him, one long elegant finger reaching out to trail his cheek, moving slowly to his throat and then to the collar of his shirt. "Well.....I am sure we can come up with a reasonable figure....you seem like a man that might like to bargain." She whispered softly in his ear. Zan set his glass down and his arm circled her waist and pulled her against him, kissing her below the ear. "Ma'am I am not above having a good negotiation." Maris pressed to him and return the kiss and then rose, striking a button on her desk. Outside the door a light turned from green to red, a signal that she was not to be disturbed. She turned back to Captain and gestured to a door through which her private quarters could be seen. "Then let us negotiate!" She gave a soft squeal of surprise and she was lifted off her feet and carried towards her bedroom in the Captain's more than powerful arms. "I drive a hard bargain!" He whispered. |

Zan left the Head of Station sometime the next morning, the woman was fast asleep after her more than active pursuits the previous evening. They had reached a negotiation and The Siren had been signed over to him for The Linquaras, two hundred thousand credits and services rendered. It was a cheap deal really and of little inconvenience to himself. The money was not really an issue and as for the 'services rendered' they were merely an act nothing more...but he did desperately want to shower. He found the quarters that Linny had been assigned and entered, the girl was curled up asleep on the bunk, but she stirred on hearing the door close. "You have been out all night!" She chastised sleepily. "Where have you been?" Zan slung his jacket on the opposite bunk and leaned against the wall. "Negotiating...successfully I might add!" He headed to the door that led to a small bathroom. "I need to shower....then we are leaving!" He said quietly. Linny sat up as she heard the hiss of the shower turning on and she shouted through the door. "You got the ship?" She got only a one word answer. "Yes!" |

Zan and Linny found The Siren at Docking Bay 2 and it was certainly in better condition than The Linquaras. Zan breathed a sigh of relief that the night he had spent at the command of the Uman station head had been worth it. She had been a very demanding woman to say the least. She also said she would be happy to receive him any time at Sunrise Station in the future. Aislin had been quiet since Zan had come back, with him being out all night and the Head of Station being female, she had put two and two together and realised that they had not been talking all night. They settled in the cockpit and Zan started the preflight checks. "I am sorry." She said in a quiet small voice. Zan did not look up from the consoles. "Sorry for what?" Linny stared out of the window. "Sorry for sneaking onboard, sorry for what you had to do last night...I don't think you really wanted to do it." He looked sideways to her. "I understand why you felt you had to come, and I forgive you for sneaking onboard, as for last night, that was my choice Aislin, if we left on The Linquaras we would have likely died." She turned to look at him, her face confused a little. "I don't understand you...you have this noble quality about you, you can change your appearance, you are so generous....who are you?" Zan smiled. "In time I will tell you....now are you ready to go, we need to go round the sun to put us on a good Trajectory for FarPost 2, it is the shorter route in the long run." She nodded. "Why there?" He looked thoughtfully out of the viewscreen. "Rumours." He said as the ship's engines started so they could leave Sunrise Station. |
