Faolan was about to answer when Rieka beat her to it and gave a nod.

"Either Leliana or Josephine will be able to sort that out for us. I'll have my mother take us there by ship. I know it's a longer trip than by air but that would look more suspicious if seen. You guys get supplies, everything we're going to need at sea and for once we get there."

The queen would sort out the trickier things.

"We'll they would know of our arrival quickly when we swoop in."
"And swooping is bad?"

Lyse laughed from behind before quietening down, the flight didn't take as long as riding but still took a bit to travel that far.

"Don't worry boss we'll get it sorted."

As promised once set down they let Faolan go off before heading off themselves to collect what was needed or at least what they thought they did.

Faolan just rolled her eyes at the joking pair, she wasn't exactly in a joking mood herself. She didn't say anything else for the remainder of the flight unless asked something, giving the three a nod once set down and made towards the castle.

People had heard of the battle and what had gone on, but nothing about Cullen's newly found illness had been mentioned to the public, for all they knew he was still recovering until Twin's watchful eye after coming close to death.

Isabela met her daughter at the gates and embraced her tightly. Faolan almost broke at the sight of her mother, she was someone who she needed right now.

"Come on, sweetheart, let's get inside. Leliana and Josie are waiting to hear what you need of them."

"Thanks, mum."

Isabela made sure to keep an arm wrapped around Faolan as they headed inside to talk to the two women. After a short talk a decision was made. Josie had a delegate from a noble Tevinter family still owing her a favour and Leliana would get her undercover agents to work with him in meeting with Faolan and her crew. The noble would secure a safe harbour at the docks. The journey on the ship would take around four days if good weather kept up, that would give time for everyone to get into position.

"A word, if I may, your highness."

Came Leliana's soft voice when the meeting ended, leading her out onto a balcony.

"Is something wrong, Lel?"

"No, it is about your mother, Lana."

"Is she okay?"

"She is as well as she can be. The truth is that I have always known of her whereabouts, but your mother swore me into secrecy not to tell you or Isabela. She relies on me to send her supplies when she is running low and unable to secure them wherever she is."

"What? You know where mother is? And you haven't told me until now?"

"I made her a promise, your mother knew that if you or Etain knew where she was then you would follow. And you know you would, no?"

Faolan's brows furrowed, folding her arms across her chest.

"So what has this got to do with my mother?"

"She is currently basing herself in Tevinter, she has also been trying to find out about the red Lyrium when she has a moment to spare. What I am saying is that if you are in dire need for help whilst in Tevinter, your mother will come."

"I...where in Tevinter?"

The news hitting her hard, not knowing how to feel about it.

"I cannot say, not unless your mother gives me permission."

"What if I order you to tell me, as the queen?"

"I will be insubordinate."

"But I am your queen!"

"And I will not break the trust of my closest friend, Faolan! Throw me in the cells, but I will not betray your mother."

Leliana's voice sharp and as cold as ice. Faolan dropped her head.

"I'm sorry."

"It is fine, things are difficult. I know the pain of losing the person you love, I lost my first love... She sacrificed herself in order to protect me and your mother."

"I haven't lost Cullen yet."

"No, and that is why you must keep your head focused on the task ahead and nothing else."

"If my mother finds anything out about red Lyrium, will you let me know?"

"Of course, any information will be passed over. Here."

She passed a roll of documents.

"This is everything we have found so far about it, take time on your journey to study them. I have also requested protection runes from the arcanist. She will have them ready by the morning for each of you. I will see you off tomorrow, rest well, Faolan."

The spymaster bowed her head before turning, leaving Faolan there on the balcony alone with her thoughts.

Lyse would always try and keep the mood light but also knew when to pipe down, she wasn't all that bad apart from being loud most of the time. The trio had a good stockpile of supplies, enough to last the journey and the initial week or so in the foreign lands but that was all they could take without taking a pack mule or something like that and that would just draw even more unwanted attention. Later on Lyse had gone for a nap and Ysayle was off meditating somewhere, leaving Rieka to go in search of the Queen to inform her that their preparations had been completed and thought it would be good to take her parents advice to an extent. Knocking on the woman's door lightly before entering with a small bow of her head.

"Forgive me if I am intruding too much, the supplies have been brought."

There was a hint of awkwardness despite her usual confident manner.

"I'm not one to usually seem like I am forcing these kind of things but considering we will be traveling a lot together I thought in the down time that we could get to know one another better, other than you being the Queen and whom I am daughter to."

Still probably more awkward than what she wished she came across as.

After speaking with Leliana Faolan retreated to her quarters. Isabela joined her for a short while before having to leave to make sure the ship was ready to set sail in the morning. Leaving Faolan alone sat in front of the fire with an untouched glass of wine in her hand.

When the knock came it snapped of out of her trance.

"Enter."

Out of everyone, Rieka's voice was the last one she expected, turning her head towards her.

"It's fine. Good job."

Faolan thought they would leave it at that but then the other spoke again, having her raise her brows before gesturing to the armchair beside the one she was sat upon.

"Then if you wish to join me, feel free. You are the only person accompanying me who I know nothing about, other than the fact you are not here helping me, you are here to keep Lyse safe."

The queen got up to pick another glass from the cabinet, pouring the dark red wine into it.

"And I can't say I blame you."

Passing the glass over before returning to her seat.

"You have to protect those dear to you."

Something Faolan felt she had failed at massively.

She smiled lightly when told they had done a good job and made her way to sit in the chair gestured at only to go a little red when her reason for being here primarily was brought up.

"Hopefully being here to protect Lyse will also in turn help you."

Groaning to herself wondering if she was actually that obvious about her friend.

"I know I wasn't there and it is easier said then done but it wasn't you that hurt him, you can't blame yourself for that."

"I'm sure it will in one way or another."

The queen closed her eyes and shook her head.

"I know I didn't hurt him, but I sent him and countless other soldiers into a battle so many will never return from just to protect me. They're after me."

Sipping her wine finally.

"Just keep Lyse safe, that's all I ask. I don't want her getting sucked into my curse."

Reika sat back in the chair slightly taking a few sips of her own drink.

"No matter who sits upon a throne people would still unfortunately get injured or killed."

It was the harsh and sad reality of war.

"I know it doesn't make it any easier but it is what soldiers sign up for but whilst their oath may be to you I bet most are in military service to protect their own loved ones. Technically you're an easy target because you sit on the throne, you currently have no children so there is no obvious succession. People know if we ever lost our Queen the entire nation would fall because there would be a power struggle for the throne that rather than keeping us united, it would split us. It is a lot of responsibility but I truly believe your family line is the only one that can rule and keep all the diffrent tribes and clans together in peace."

There was just something the Hawke’s had.

" You needn’t ask of that but I promise to. "

Faolan Kept quiet as the other spoke, taking in the words but it still didn't help with her guilt.

"Well let's hope I have a successor before I go then, if we truly do keep everyone together in peace."

Sipping her wine before speaking again.

"Don't miss your chance of happiness when it's at your fingertips. You might lose that person at any one point."

"You're a Hawke, it'll be sometime before you go anywhere."

Faolan's family had a hell of a legacy and whether she believed it or not the young Queen lived up to it.

"I... I will keep that in mind."

It'd still take a lot of courage. Finishing off her wine she thanked the other for the drink and company even if it was brief.

"I should leave you be for the time being."

The queen just gave a single nod, drinking her own glass until Rieka stood.

"Get plenty of rest. You'll need it."

It was all she said before the other left. Faolan stayed hidden away for the remainder of the day and night, having food sent upto her rather than going down to feast hall. The woman couldn't sleep, sitting on a windowsill throughout the night reading over the reports Leliana had handed over to her, some where obviously in her mother's handwriting and it hurt her heart.

When morning came it would be obvious by the dark circles under her eyes that Faolan hadn't slept. She double checked her gear before heading for the ship. As good to her word Leliana was there seeing them off, giving her a little bit more information about Tevinter.

"Are you all ready?"

Isabela called out from on board the Siren's Call. Faolan said her goodbyes to the spymaster and stepped on board along with Ysayle.

"The same can be said for you."

Giving a small bow again before taking her leave, making her way to seek out Lyse who had them staying in her family home during their short stop over in the capital. Reika went for Lyse's room but stopped herself short and just aimed for her own bed.

In the morning Lyse was full of energy and ready to go but could see her friend had lacked sleep.

Faolan didn't know how Lyse remained so upbeat even in the darkest of times, she admired her friend for it. Isabela made sure everyone who was needed was on board before calling to release the ropes and raise the anchor. Soon enough they were on the seas, the pirate already looking as if she was at home behind the wheel of a ship.

Not long into the journey the queen leant on the railings near the bow of the ship, her blue eyes casting off into the distance.

It was the way Lyse had always been it seemed but especially right now she thought her friend needed it whilst of course she would comfort Faolan when and as often as she needed, she stayed so positive because she had to try and shine a little light on the dark times the Queen was going through. Reika made herself as useful as possible during the journey, getting stuck in to help hoping her strength was appreciated on the voyage. Ysayle too enjoyed life at sea it would seem once she got over becoming seasick for the first several hours. Lyse gave her friend space but always kept an eye on her even if it seemed like she was doing a task that took all her attention.

"Tell me about him."

Her voice came warmly from behind as she stood to her side.

"Other than his hair what had him steal your heart away when I wasn't looking."

She knew he was a good man by his reputation alone.

Lyse's voice broke her out of her own thoughts, looking back towards her only to return her gaze back over the ocean.

"He cared."

Faolan said simply.

"He was always there at my side when I felt my loneliest and he did what he could to make me smile. He went up against his own Knight Vigilant and Knight Divine to protect me when his life could have easily been taken at that point."

The woman let out a heavy breath.
