Pirates receive:
SP Ted Lilly 13: 12M
Note: Dodgers agree to pay 5M of Lilly's deal for 2013.
Dodgers receive:
Oakland Athletics 2nd round pick in the deal.
Dodgers LO does this deal to shed themselves of someone they have no interest in keeping on their 2013 roster. With this deal, we are a step closer to being able to compete in FA. We acquire a solid pick to use as possible ammo in other deals. Thank you to Adam for taking him and Hairston off my hands.

The Pirates agree to this deal to add anothe SP to our team. Since FA has started, we have been unable to get a decent SP because of expensive contracts. We get a veteran to help us as a bandaid until our other SP prospects reach the MLB. With what Dodgers agree to pay of his contract, we feel his contract is decent and may allow us to move him at the trade deadline for another peice to our puzzle. Good deal.
Lilly's contract is 12M for 2013.

Approve number 2. Dodgers have a surplus of starting pitching and has been looking to make a deal for a while. The Pirates have been seeking actual MLB players to field a roster. And while Lily makes a lot of money, he is still serviceable and should generate decent stats with a loaded Dodgers lineup. Fair deal for both.

Approved. Nice move by Dodgers to save cap while Pit gets a serviceable SP for the year
