The Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics have agreed to the following trade for review by the ATH Trade Committee:
Rays Receive: 3B Mike Olt TEX prospect $100k
Athletics Receive: SP Jaime Garcia STL $5.75M ('13), $9.25M ('14), $11.5M ('15), $12M ('16)
TB: -$4.75M OAK: +$4.75
The Rays accept this deal. We have been trying to deal a starting pitcher since Christmas because that is a strength of our team. We have been targeting a top tier offensive prospect or a package of prospects. Mike Olt qualifies as a top notch prospect. This helps our squad in a number of ways: brings an offensive prospect to Durham, sheds some salary to spend in free agency, provides insurance in case Mitch Moreland struggles and Olt takes over firstbase for the Rangers. Good luck to the A's. They add another young pitcher to their MLB squad by only parting with one top prospect.

Athletics approve this trade....Thee is a correction, however. The salary hit to the A's is $5.65M, not $4.75M (5.75M - 100K = 5.65).
The A's did this trade in order to bolster the starting rotation without having to part with an MLB hitter. Olt is going to be a stud, but Garcia has already proven that he can be, as long as he puts his injuries behind him. Our team doctors believe that the upside is huge as his health has improved.

Approve#2 Good swap of excess talent. With multiple 3B prospects of elite type talent the A's made a deal to bolster their weakness, SP. It should be a solid trade for both teams.

Approve, Rick continues to mold the team in his image (not trying for a bible reference) while continuing to deal from strengths to improve weaknesses. Saul gets a much needed SP to provide some help to his staff.
