The Reason for this poll is do we want automatic farms? or hand-harvested one? Automatic Farms Pros: Faster, less labor intensive, Cons: No herbalism skill increases, produces more than we could ever use, less realistic Hand-Harvested Farms Pros: Advances herbalism skill, more realistic, less waste Cons: Slower, more labor intensive EDIT: Ok guys, here's an idea, some farms can be auto (wheat, cactus, reeds) while others can be hand (Mushroom (damn you Notch for nerfing their spread(hey I just used a parenthesis inside a parenthesis (look I did it again (should I be using brackets? I mean that what they use in math, right? (enough of this I'm confusing myself)))) pumpkin, melon) what do yall think? Edited by Kremlin16, Oct 2 2011, 07:46 PM.

Make automatic farms that can be harvested by hand if the farmer wants to. Best of both worlds. |

Automatic, looks cooler, impresses people, and I'm too lazy to hand harvest ![]() |

There's no real advantage to a hand farm, but it is realistic. As one of the few factions that actually enforces roleplay, it may be a good idea to also enforce realism. Though with the hunger system included in 1.8, it would would make sense to favour a quicker system over a realistic system. |

Mushrooms do not spread infinitely anymore making giant mushroom farms much better (manual only sadly). Everything else should be auto I would think. |

Ironic, do you have a link referring to the mushroom change? Just glanced over a search and didn't see anything about it. The skill plugin is supposedly being swapped with an updated version of Dwarfcraft; in the older version that I've found details for, there is no mushroom farming skills to be gained from manually farming; "[4] Plowman - Plow durability and Seed Quantity from hoeing grass. [41] Wheat Farmer - Quantity of Wheat and Seeds from reaping grown Crops [42] Exotics Farmer - Cane(Reed) and Cactus Quantity [74] Florist - Flowers and Pumpkins Quantity" Unless this has changed, the only advantages to manual farming (from a production standpoint) are wheat, reed, cactus, and pumpkins, and it's only if someone consistently looks to farm. I dunno about anyone else, but I'd think we'd have an obvious lacking of farming if everything was switched to manual, unless someone was as obsessed with farming as I was with mining.

"As of the Beta 1.8 mushroom spreading was nerfed, so that a mushroom will only spread if there's less than 5 mushrooms in an area of 9x9x3 around the original mushroom. This has made Mushroom farming very inefficient and the many of the methods below will not work in 1.8+." - http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Mushroom_Farming I was slightly wrong, they can spread infinitely but it'd be hard for that to occur naturally. With the nerfed rate of growth and the large amount of mushrooms you can get from giant ones (there's currently a bug or it was fixed to be like this but when you fail to make a mushroom giant it no longer consumes the bone meal) it seems more efficient to just do that. I was able to turn 1 mushroom into 17 last night on my world so it's a decently efficient way. |

Nice, good to know. Guess we'll have to do that manually and stock up on bonemeal, or just very, very slowly auto. Btw, I now have an option between a fully automated, or just a regular automated watermelon farm. : D |
