The Kruize Burnout Kontest was held on the concrete pad in front of the
Speed Shop garage doors. Several High-Horsepower guys lined up for the
event as soon as it was announced. Dave Roehrle barged to the front of
the line to show off his blown Dodge.

The K&J Balloon hovered above the crowd and provided the perfect
vantage point for the Kontest. Dave started out with a so-so burn.....

....which very quickly turned into a real crowd-pleaser:

After Dave finished showing off, I pulled up the line in my '55 Gasser.
Not to be outdone, I fired it up and began burning the balonies, but it's
hard to beat a blower.

Next up was Clare Gilbert in his Bee-YOU-tee-ful Blue Willys.
A quick hit of the throttle and......Instant Tire Smoke.

Open headers, a blue Willys and plenty of tire smoke. I doesn't get much
better than that. In an effort to conserve rubber before returning to Canada,
Clare's burnout exhibited tasteful restraint.

Hollywood Jim added to the Kontest by tanning the hides of his recently
recovered rat. Not bad for an old rust bucket that hauled a trailer all the way from Utah.

David King wanted to get into the act with his "Give-away T".
It was a good try, but this wasn't exactly the kind of "burnout" the crowd had in mind.....

After the dust had settled, it was obvious that Dave's Big, Bad, Blown Dodge
was the hands-down winner. He celebrated the win with a spectacular exhibition
of fiery Firestones that left the crowd with burning eyes and happy smiles.

Congratulations, Dave!!
