Everybody wants to leave with a full tank, so the pump island is a busy place. Melvin Jones is filled up and ready to hit the road pulling his trailered Cobra. Clare Gilbert and Richard Olson will be right behind him on the highway.  Richard also needed to top off the Ice Cream truck, but every time he stops, he's swarmed by kids (young and old) who want ice cream.  Since Mercman was the first one to arrive, it's only fitting that he should be the last one to leave. Only this time, several of his new friends are on hand to see him off. He ordered T-shirts for all of them, so its a good thing they all gave Merc their phone numbers so he'll know where to deliver the shirts.  As Merc pulls away, the K&J crew wastes no time taking down the Official Kruize Banner. They say it will be neatly folded and stored away in the attic, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it on eBay....  It doesn't seem possible, but the longest day in model car history has come to a close. What began as a car show that was to be photographed outdoors in real time over the course of one day - starting in the early morning light and ending when the sun was going down on the other side of the Fairgrounds - turned into an epic adventure that lasted a little over 2 months (2 months and 3 days to be exact) This could never have happened without the involvement and generosity of every one of you. Your enthusiasm for this project kept the fire going and turned the Kruize into something that has never been seen before and will probably never occur again. Whatever happens in the future and however the Kruize is remembered, always keep in mind that only a handful of dedicated modelers can say: "I WAS THERE" Thanks for a great ride. |
