Time to build a hood. First, a firewall was cut out of .030" styrene. The bottom opening clears the bell housing and transmission, the curved support strip at the top mirrors the shape of the grill and the retangular opening will accomodate the instrument cluster.... ![]() The grill shell was detailed with strip styrene and photoetched grill bars.... ![]() Next, I carved a buck that I was going use to to shape a piece of aluminum for the hood..... ![]() ...but that didn't work. When the aluminum sheet was formed over the buck, it would spring back like this: ![]() I could have hammered the aluminum over the buck, but then I would've had to file the dents and smooth out the surface.....WAY too much work. Instead, I just rolled the corners with a knife handle.... ![]() ...and used the buck to check the fit. After a couple of hours of filing and test fitting I added a couple of strips to the finished hood for some visual interest. Getting a really good fit required filing and hand-tweaking between every test-fit, which took some time) Now this space............... ![]() .....will be filled with a hood of scale thickness. This is just mocked in place - the little spaces will be gone whme everything is permanently attached. ![]() The rest of the gears and chain came in, too, so now I can play with the drive train:
