What time frame did lumber yards stop using these mule/buggys? Never really seen many of these that's for sure.
Not sure, but there are probably some still in use.
There are/were some real goofy looking ones out there, too:

Those are super cool, and I am glad to see a variety of wheels and tire set ups . . . very cool. You gonna have fun with this one, Hamilton!

I was thinking a trip through Toys R Us might get you a set of wheels. Seems like I've seen something close to them on some kind of toy.

I remember seeing one of those at a lumber yard here in San Pedro when I was a kid in the late '60s or early '70s.

Thats going to be great Ken. For the wheels, I have seen people use the wheels from a Lego set on their projects before. "a/

That engine is a great start. I really like the details like the carb connector rods. Great stuff Ken.

Hamilton, I keep going back to that engine . . . would you please explain how you painted it . . . I am assuming you built it all first, then painted it . . . then washes, powders, etc . . .

I really can't wait to see more.

It's been at least 30 years since I saw one in person.
They used them here at 84 Lumber until they closed it and tore it down...the lot became a car dealership, lol.

They were Green, and super ugly, lol.

I too would like to know the process for painting that engine, Please? :)

How the hell did I miss this. Hamilton you young buck, I'm always anxiously waiting for something new from Dr. Dio. This one really has me stoked, I love these things. Some great pics, thanks and the engine is a corker. I think there are some cast metal kits in 1/87.
Some of the larger lumber distributors have handlers similar but of course much newer.

Oooo goody, there's nothing sweeter than more eye candy from the Wild Hare.

Thanks for all the comments, guys.....and "HEY, Chester" - good to hear from you. I figured you'd
be interested in this one.

Started on the platform: diamond plate welded to channel stock. I'm using the radiator & axle
from the same '48 Chevey the motor came out of to enhance the story of a home-built lumber
buggy that was made from parts found around the yard.

Posted Image

The seat was found in the parts box. I think it was from an old sprint car kit and had to be
narrowed by about 3 scale inches. I didn't notice the rear axle cradle wasn't pushed down
onto the pin for the photo....

Posted Image

Speaking of pins, one thing I learned from Mark Gustavson was using pins to locate sub-assemblies.
The transmission, axle unit and seat are all positioned with pins, whicmake mocking up the
model really easy and assists no-end in final assembly.

Thanks for looking. More to come....................

Ken, Didn't you want to do something with one of these a long, long time ago, on a forum far, far away? Seems you were looking for a source for the drive chain... Anyway, great start!

You know, just the fact that you are working off of those smaller scale plans and then using math to get the Xerox copy at the right size just gives me a little bit of headache in trying to figure out how you work all that out . . . I think in the next life I am going to ask for some proficiency in math! :D :D :D

Buddy, you are making Hamilton crack up!!! I am horrible with math. I just don't know anything about it. I could barely keep my change straight . . .

I'm serious. Hamilton can vouch for me! Math and electricity are foreign languages to me.
