Hey guys,

Ben and I were talking tonight, and he has been doing alot of volunteer work at a local nursing home. He has got four old gentlemen building models!! one of the guys is 83!.......they are at the Richwood nursing home in west virginia.

we`re looking for donataions of kits, supplies or any model related stuff. Anything you can donate will be a big help to them. These guys really enjoy building, and Ben would really appreciate it.

there are a couple things that they cant have....any glue has to be non-toxic, and they cannot have any type of spray paint. Ben has been painting the bodies for them at home.
any bottle paints must be water base....like the apple barrel, and folk art paints. Any kind of supplies at all that you guys can donate, brushes, #11 blades, anything you can think of, Just basic stuff, nothing fancy.

you can mail your kit/supply donations to Ben at this address

Ben Stone
3 Poplar street
Richwood, WV
26261

thanks guys, Ben and I appreciate your help!

They can have razor blades?
This is an AWESOME thing for you guys to do, just be careful putting exacto knives in their hands as I have had a really bad experience doing this very thing for the male residents in my late wifes nursing home.

After our unfortunate incident we had to stop using glue kits and go with snap kits, but you know what, it didn't matter to those guys because they were smiling ear to ear anyway. It was more of the inclusion in an activity that reminded them of years gone by that mattered to them.
It tore me up to see them acting like children again, it was great.

Every time I think about it I am reminded of the segment in Twilight Zone: The Movie where Scatman Crothers turned the Seiors into children playing kick the can.

I wish I could do what your doing again, But I still cannot bring myself to walk into that place.

How many people are involved in the building?
Do they have any preferences as to what they like to build?

I like to try and make it as personal as possible, and it's worth the extra effort when you see it light up their faces.

Seriously, I'm touched by this, guys.

thank you drak!!

i dont think they have any preference as far as kits go. im sending a 40 ford, and whatever else i can dig up...... and yea theyre allowed to have razor blades......

Ben does alot of volunteer work there, and he has 4 older guys into building models now, one of whom is 83! He says they love doing it. He took a bunch of corvette kits to them a couple weeks ago, and they are building up a storm!.....

anything you guys wanna donate will be just fine, any type of kit, and any kind of supplies/paints/ect....ect...

Thanks drak! We appreciate it!

Bryan, tell Ben I'll put something together, yes it'll be 1/25th :D :D :D . Hell I'm 56, and barley see 1/87th, so I won't torment them with that.

It will be a bit to get it sent, as with my time off, I fell behind a bit. But like I tell yhe wife, I'm slow but reliable.

Mercman

PS. How many are there for sure? As I might just personalize something for each of them. Have Ben drop me a message. I took place in something like before, through the MODEL CAR MUSEUM, with Mark G. He collected kits, and supplies and sent them to Iraq to the troops there.

Hey, Ben, a box of goodies is headed your way . . . some useful stuff, I hope. All that I ask in return is to see some pics of the group at work!!! That'd probably make my day.

Hey Ben, I mailed a small box off to ya yesterday. It's got a snap tite kit in it(no need to paint it) and a small assortment of handy stuff. Maybe you could let us know what the fellas run out of and what they might want or need, next time we're at the store we can grab it. My hat's off to ya Ben, it's a wonderful thing your doing for these guys!
