.....I started working on this little project last winter and a couple days ago decided to get back to it. I remember seeing these in the December issue of SA. It was Mark Baston's Charger Daytona feature. I thought it was a great detail, especially for modeling old junkers. After a failed search for brake shoes on the Internet I decided, like Mark, to make my own. Realizing real quick that making a full set for a car/truck and have them all look alike would be very tedious and time consuming. So I made a die and castings of them. Made the backing plate, shoes and the brake drum. Still need to make the wheel cylinder plus the brake adjust cam. Might try and make the park brake cable at some point in the future too. Here's a few pics, let me know what you guys think.......
here they are de-molded....

...thanks Bryan...as far as selling em, it did cross my mind today after they turned out fairly nice. I thought if I could make a die that did a set of 4 it might be worth persuing. I like to make all the parts on a single spur, it would save time and resin. Tell ya what, I'll make a couple more and send them to ya. You play with em and let me know......

Let me know if they will be for sale. I could use many of them for my junkers going into my salvage yard dio. I have over 65 vehicles waiting to be "Junkified". Drums would be a great addition to some, as vehicles that have been partially disassembled, or stripped.

...thanks guys, I appreciate all the comments. Because of all the positive feed back I'am going to start working on a mold for a complete set. Although I failed at the first 3 attempts, it felt good to stick with it and come up with a decent cast. I'll keep ya posted on the progress and how they turn out.

WOW those look great. You did a heck of a job replicating those. Yrs ago AMT did something similar in some of their kits. I was going through a parts box a while back and ran across them but yours are much better than what they did. Their shoes were cast as one piece and didn't appear as detailed.

Great work.

Beautiful work Danny. They look professionally done.

BTW, These aren't drums but 1/87 disc brakes done in p.e. on this F40 Ferrari. Sorry for the bad photo but I couldn't believe them when I saw them up close, very detailed. Available from an outfit called Automobilia.

..thanks chester, I appreciate that.............I know what you mean, with today's technology just about anything in most scales is a possibility. After messing around with what little bit of resin work that I've done, it would be really cool to see how the big boys do it. I'd like to see it from the drawing board to the finish product. I wonder if it's possible to tour one of those plants, like Revell, AMT,Details West, Atlas and etc.

I've seen pictures of the HO scale stuff from Automobilia. The detail sets caught my attention.

...Dave I can see why the detail sets caught your eye. Those are real nice, and to be that precise in HO scale!

..which bring to mind another thought..I've seen those kits where you can make your own photoetched parts, is that easy to do?
