Yeah, yeah, I know what you are going to say: Hey, you are not the President!!! Ha!

I've been thinking lately of how far this group of builders has come in terms of the friendships, the inspiration, and all the great work that has been shared over the many years--I mean, who will ever forget The Kruize--and although a lot of the guys come and go, we've had the same steady group for a long time.

I'm wondering what else could be next, the things that are going to help keep us from stagnating and maybe becoming too complacent with ourselves, with our feedback, etc . . .

I know I'm the first one guilty of always saying keep it going, good job, etc . . . and I am making an effort to be more critical, more useful with my comments.

In short, I am trying to figure out what can help ignite the next spark of enthusiasm on this forum . . . hell, I only wish that most of you lived nearby and we could get together one night out of the month to see each others' works in progress live! :(

Perhaps, I'm just a sentimental old fool, but I would love for all of us to keep growing and sharing more of our work.

Is that too much to ask for?

no way cranky, thats not too much to ask for.......

yea i need to bump up my comments a notch too, i always say the same crap, over and over again............"good job", ect, ect.......

this is definetely a great group we have, and hopefully the enthusiasm will continue unabated......there has been some amazing, and memorable work come from this forum, and we sure cant let it stop!

that would be cool if we could all get together once a month! but distance kinda kills all that

:'( I'm still waiting to win the powerball lottery :X . Like I said when I do, we all meet somewhere in the country, and we have a convention. I'm paying. ;)

What we need is another event of some sort, like the Kruise. Not exactly the same but something I'm sure will pop up eventually, and get evryone's blood boiling again.

Yeah, but the distance is also what has made the fabric of this group so well knit, buddy. I think the fact that we are all spread all over the country makes us want to share in this community. I know that around here in Tally and also in Miami I don't know of many builders. I know Armyofchuckness is in Gainesville but that's like three hours away.

I'm just hoping we can keep up the energy of earlier years, you know. And we are all getting older, but heck, most of us can still surprise each other with the next best build!!!

Which is what keeps me coming back!

I live by a group of builders, but they all do there own thing. Not much for sharing ideas. :-/ That's what I love about this group, no secret build techniques. If you need help, someone will have the answer. :P

i fully agree Virgil. My favorite thing about model contests is to see other's work in person. I absolutely LOVE to see the craftsmanship of other modelers in person and it's a flood of inspiration too. I can honestly say that his forum section alone is one place I always come even though I don't regularly participate. The work here from everyone amazes me and as I stated earlier, your Old Red build gave me the kick in the pants inspiration to build my '50 Chevy project and tackle a new weathering technique.

..I agree 100% Virgil. I really look forward to this forum. You guys are my only contact with any builders. There's no clubs near by that I know of and the only one that I do know of is military only. I'd be for just about anything to keep this group going. As far as getting together, it would really great if we could all meet somewhere at least once a year. I thought it was great when posted our mugs that one time. Putting a face to the name made us seem more real. I for one feel very fortunate to be apart of this!!

This is also my only contact with other modelers. It is such a great place to exchange ideas and learn. I have learned so much from all of you, everyone is so free with techniques and sharing makes for a great place to hang out. I too am opened to anything that will improve on this place.

What to post about somebody's work has always been tricky.

I'm always hesitant to offer criticism of anybody's work, although I realize that everybody
usually takes it in the positive manner intended. I always feel like: "Who am I to tell
somebody how to build THEIR model?" It's not always the most helpful thing to post a
bunch of "Atta-boy" responses, but they DO offer positive reinforcement.

I'll make a suggestion, sometimes in a PM, is there's something that really looks out of wack,
but generally I simply enjoy looking at (and favorably commenting on) what everybody does.

The contact with other modelers is what's most important.

Well put Hamilton.

I think this group in particular is well versed in the tact and useful manner of constructive criticism.

I know that on most of my builds in recent years many of you had made a positive impact and have really inspired me to make the right decisions.

Well as it was so stated over at the MAGAZINE forum , model builders who have a personal grief should use the P - M feature not the public . Then too, there are certainly tactful ways to crique work of somone else . I do it all the time . I also follow it by add a helpful sugestion to show the person that I'm sincere and really want to help improve the job ! Ed Shaver

you bet ken!

i try not to be critical about anyones builds, cause no matter how you say it, it always sounds like "your doing that wrong"....

...i can say i like constructive criticism.......without it we would learn nothing, Ken has emailed me a couple times with some CC, and sometimes i listen, and sometimes i dont LOL! but its always appreciated, someone may see something that you just dont catch, another set of eyes is always a big help......

This is why forum participation on a regular basis is important because sometimes (this happens to me all the time because I tend to work faster and have more time) you are working on something, getting a nice progress going, and then a week later someone jumps in with a comment. Sometimes it's not too late, but sometimes it is.

I remember when I was working on Frankie, the truckster I build off Jairus Watson's rendering, that most of you were in agreement I had to go back and chop down the cab a bit more, so I restarted the project with a new body . . .

These are things that if you had to pay someone to teach you how to do, you'd never be able to do it.

And here we get it for free, and because what goes around comes around.

Plus, we'll all become fairly good forum friends and buddies.

frankie is definetely my favorite build of yours virgil.......that truck is fantastic man!

i have all the pics of it saved, and it makes its regular rotation as the background on my computer!!

can you imagine if you had to teach someone how to do all the crap we do..............or to pay someone to teach you? what the hell would that cost? wow!.........thats it, im starting a "model building university" LOL!! welcome to "B.M.U"...

.....actually i would like to see a Model based "how to" TV show!!........there used to be one on, and it wasnt really that great, but it was ok.......there was one about models, and also one about RC Racing......

This forum is like being in my den. I can say pretty much what I want and nobody gets too upset. And by the same token, I can listen to what's been said and know there's no malice or contention because we all seem to do so many different things we leave our egos outside.
I have a neighbor that has a train layout in HO and we have had some interesting discussions but he's so anal retentive that rust and weathered wood and peeling paint and all that cool stuff is out of the question. Besides that, he's an asshole too.
All in all, I'd say that this is the most comfortable place I visit to share modeling and I doubt I'll be leaving any time soon. Unless I get kicked out for swearing or some shit like that. :D

LOL! Model Building University. Cool, I want a job there!!!

Also, the other thing I wanted to add is that most of us here are fanatical about the way we build and the way we like to see each other build.

You know in real life people are always saying: Gee, that must have taken a long time, or I just don't have the patience, etc . . .

The biggest pleasure I get on this forum comes from watching someone, either new or veteran, build something step by step. That's really where it's at. It's not really about the final product so much as it is abour the PROCESS.

thats it chester!!!.....youre outta here for swearing!! LOL.........pack your shit and go! LOL

chester is right, this forum is very comfortable, and noone has an ego here..........at the shows i go to, some of these guys have huge egos, and i hate it....they know they can build great lookin models, and are more than happy to tell you about their "greatness"..........i really hate that..

yea v, i like seeing someone build step by step, and watch it come together as it goes along...........thats probably why i post so many pics of the stuff i work on, because its just what i like to see happening....

what job do you want at "B.M.U" virgil...........all positions are open right now, so the choice is yours!

Since we are getting so philosophical and all about model building;
I’d like to know why you guys build models. What is your motivation?
