Ok guys i know i am insane with all these projects, everything else in on hold...........like the garage, so i can order parts for it. i dont feel like finishing rocinante, or the black widow, so here we go with something new......

when i went to the model show last week, i saw a carpenters van in a parking lot, and thought, that would make a cool project, but the van kits are so damn expensive now.......forget that!!

at the show i found one of those revell van and race trailer kits.......for 15 bucks! it was my lucky day i guess.......so now i have the kit to do the carpenters van!

one dissapointment about this kit is, the hood DOESNT open!!!!
Posted Image

well it took about 30 seconds to decide.........oh no way, that has to open!
Posted Image

after opeing the hood.....there is NO firewall detail, no brake booster/master cylinder, no heater box, ect ect, so i will have to dig for all that stuff, it shouldnt be a problem.
and another detail it is lacking is the radiator support.......so i had to make one, it still needs a little sanding, and a few more details
Posted Image

Posted Image
it fits in there really nice, i was worried i wouldnt have enough room for it all, but it all fits!

next thing was the engine, it hardly has any detail.......so i snagged a big block chevy i had stashed, and i cut the automatic tranny off of the kit engine, and grafted it to the big block....
Posted Image

this thing is gonna be light blue, the bumpers and grille will be white. it will be weathered, but not destroyed, just flaking paint, and dirt, no major rust......

let me know what you think guys, more to come!
stay tuned

thanks danny!

nah, im not gonna open the back doors, i thought about it, and decided against it. i am gonna build a roof rack for it, and it will have some lumber on it, and a couple ladders.

unfortunately, this thing has wheel well flares, i dont like them, but it would be alot of body work to remove them, so the story is......this was a custom van, back in the late 70`s,(its a 78 or 79 van) and it was sold to a carpenter in 1992 who needed another van for his business, so he gutted the interior, and set it up for work........the only custom part left on it was the wheel flares. thats my story, and im stickin to it! haha!

more to come stay tuned!
i just realized i have been at the bench for 8 hours already today! wow!

oh, i forgot. im also gonna scratchbuild one of those partitions (im not sure what theyre actaully called) that go behind the driver and passenger seats to keep everything in the back of the van, so you dont get blasted in the back of the head with stuff from the back!

i found some good reference pics for the rack and partition.......ill be starting on those tomorrow, for tonight tho, i am done!

tune in tomorrow!

I like that idea Bryan. I see a lot of ex-custom trucks in my neck of the woods that are now handyman specials. Lots of lowered Nissans and Toyotas get reinvented as work trucks. Nothing like a slammed Nissan with a lumber rack. I have been wanting to do a handyman truck too. I have an AMT kit with the 53 Ford and trailer. I want to make that into a handyman rig. The van is a great subject. I like the idea of a carpet roll hanging out the back.

Oh, by the way, your A.D.D. is giving me A.D.D.

Looks good so far Bryan. The sneaky use of the jackstands didn't go unnoticed. Did that model come with an open grill, or did you file it from thr back?

You need some of these hub caps B http://public.fotki.com/cnaind/truck-tires--wheels/chevy-dog-dish-hub-caps/chevyvanorpickuphubcaps.html

:) Nice work on that grill! cant wait to see this thing on it's way.

You should just spray paint "free candy" on your serial killer van!
